Raikkonen equals the record for most starts, Verstappen records the 40th podium for a Dutch driver and Russell finishes a Sochi race for the first time. Here is a statistic from each driver’s 2020 Russian Grand Prix weekend!
?? Lewis Hamilton
For a fifth consecutive race, Lewis Hamilton took pole position – but, for a fourth Russian Grand Prix in a row, the polesitter failed to win. Hamilton finished in third place, recording his 159th podium finish. It marked the first time that Hamilton has lost positions from where he started at this circuit. It was his sixth podium finish at Sochi Autodrom, extending his record.
?? Valtteri Bottas
Despite failing to qualify on the front row of the grid for the first time since the Styrian Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas took the ninth victory of his career at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. He became the second driver, after team-mate Lewis Hamilton, to have taken multiple wins at the Russian Grand Prix. Bottas also won the race in 2017. Both of the Finn’s victories at the circuit have come from third on the grid.
?? Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel made his 250th race start at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. In qualifying, the German recorded his first Q2 exit at the Russian Grand Prix since 2014. Fifteenth is his worst qualifying result at the Sochi Autodrom, his previous worst being eleventh at Red Bull in 2014. For the second year in a row, Vettel failed to score at the Russian Grand Prix. Finishing in thirteenth place, Vettel is the first Ferrari driver to finish a race at Sochi Autodrom in a position outside of the points.
?? Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc lost his 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Sochi Autodrom in qualifying for the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. Starting eleventh, Leclerc went on to finish the race in sixth place – his best result from the last five races.
?? Max Verstappen
After becoming the first Red Bull driver to qualify on the front row at Sochi Autodrom, Max Verstappen finished as runner-up in the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, recording his team’s first podium finish at the event. It was Verstappen’s 38th podium finish, and the 40th overall for a Dutch driver.
?? Alex Albon
Alex Albon picked up a five place grid penalty at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix and started fifteenth on the grid. He gained five places in the race; the most positions he has gained in a race since the Hungarian Grand Prix.
?? Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz was the first retirement from the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. It’s the second race in a row in which Sainz has retired, marking the first time he has recorded consecutive retirements since the 2019 Belgian and Italian Grands Prix.
?? Lando Norris
Lando Norris finished fifteenth in the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, failing to score for only the second time in 2020. He lost seven positions from where he started – which is the most positions he has lost in any F1 race where he has reached the chequered flag.
?? Daniel Ricciardo
After recording Renault’s best Russian Grand Prix qualifying result, Daniel Ricciardo went on to finish the 2020 Russian Grand Prix in fifth place. It was both his and the team’s best ever result at Sochi Autodrom.
?? Esteban Ocon
Esteban Ocon finished the 2020 Russian Grand Prix in seventh place, equalling his previous best Sochi result. He also finished seventh at the circuit in 2017.
?? Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez finished in fourth place at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, recording his best result of the season to date and his best result since finishing on the podium at the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He maintained his record of having scored in every race which he has entered this year, and – along with Hamilton – is one of only two drivers to have scored at all seven Russian Grands Prix held since 2014. He also passed Nick Heidfeld for third in the list of most race starts without a win.
?? Lance Stroll
After retiring on the first lap, Lance Stroll became the first driver to retire from the Russian Grand Prix having started from twelfth on the grid. He recorded his team’s first retirement at the circuit since 2016. It was the Canadian’s first non-finish at the circuit. Stroll retains his unwanted record of having never scored at Sochi Autodrom.
?? Daniil Kvyat
Daniil Kvyat recorded his team’s best ever Russian Grand Prix result. Kvyat finished eighth, marking the first time has scored in his home race with the Red Bull junior team. His only other points here came with Red Bull, with whom he finished fifth in 2015.
?? Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly qualified in ninth place for the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, marking the first time that a driver for the Red Bull junior team has reached Q3 at the Russian Grand Prix since Max Verstappen did so in 2016. After recording his first Sochi Q3 appearance, he went on to score his first points at the circuit on Sunday with a ninth place finish.
?? Kimi Raikkonen
At the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen equalled Rubens Barrichello’s record of most Grand Prix starts. Raikkonen has now officially started 222 races, though this was his 223rd start if you include the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix.
?? Antonio Giovinazzi
After equalling his best qualifying result of the 2020 season with seventeenth place, Antonio Giovinazzi finished the Russian Grand Prix just one position outside of the points in eleventh place. It’s the best result that he has recorded at the Russian Grand Prix, and his best result since finishing ninth at the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix.
?? Romain Grosjean
Romain Grosjean still sits last in the Drivers’ Championship after the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. As a result of the race, he – and eight others – no longer have a mathematical chance of winning the 2020 Drivers’ Championship.
?? Kevin Magnussen
With twelfth place, Kevin Magnussen equalled his second-best result of the season to date at the 2020 Russian Grand Prix. He also finished twelfth at the Styrian Grand Prix. It’s the first time that Magnussen has failed to score in Russia since 2017.
?? George Russell
George Russell finished last of the cars still running at the end of the Russian Grand Prix. Nevertheless, his eighteenth place means that he moves out of the group of drivers who failed to finish on every appearance at Sochi Autodrom. The five drivers who remain in the group are Brendon Hartley, Kamui Kobayashi, Max Chilton, Rio Haryanto and Robert Kubica.
?? Nicholas Latifi
At the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, Nicholas Latifi qualified on the back row for the seventh time. As a result of a gearbox penalty, Latifi started last on the grid for the third time; the second time he has done so in the last three races.
