At the ninth Turkish Grand Prix, Hamilton could equal the Turkey win record and Alonso could extend the record for most Istanbul Park podiums. Here are the records which could be broken at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix!
The 2021 Turkish Grand Prix will be the 1,052nd World Championship event, the ninth running of the Turkish Grand Prix and the ninth F1 race at Istanbul Park.
If Lewis Hamilton wins the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix, he will equal Felipe Massa’s record for most wins at Istanbul Park. Massa won three times at Istanbul Park. Hamilton has won the event twice so far, in 2010 and 2020. A victory for Hamilton would also make him only the second driver, after Massa, to have won the Turkish Grand Prix in consecutive seasons.
If Hamilton wins and sets the Fastest Lap this weekend, he will become the first driver to have scored 100 points at the Turkish Grand Prix.
McLaren will equal Ferrari’s record of most Turkish Grand Prix victories if they win this weekend. Ferrari have three wins at the circuit so far, compared to McLaren’s two wins. Red Bull or Mercedes could become the third team to take multiple Turkish Grand Prix wins.
Mercedes-powered cars have won four of the eight Turkish Grands Prix held so far. They could extend the record to five this weekend, while Ferrari could equal the record for most wins for an engine manufacturer at the Istanbul Park track.
Pole position for Sebastian Vettel at the Turkish Grand Prix would see him equal Felipe Massa as the driver with the most poles at Istanbul Park. Vettel has previously taken pole in Turkey in 2009 and 2011.
Lewis Hamilton can extend his record for most circuits at which a driver has taken pole position this weekend. Hamilton has taken pole at 30 different circuits so far in his career, but is yet to set the fastest Saturday time at Istanbul Park.
Lance Stroll took pole at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. Another pole this year would see him become only the second driver, after Felipe Massa, to take pole in successive years at Istanbul Park.
Ferrari and Red Bull are currently tied for most pole positions at the Turkish Grand Prix. Pole for either team this weekend would see them extend the record for most poles at the track to four.
Fernando Alonso currently holds the record for most podium finishes at the Turkish Grand Prix, with four. The Spaniard could extend the record to five this weekend, or his tally could be equalled by Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel.
Should a British driver take victory, Britain will overtake Brazil as the nation with the most wins at the Turkish Grand Prix. Both nations have had three previous wins each at the event.
