Verstappen’s winning streak comes to an end, Ricciardo records his best result of the season and Schumacher is the only Singapore rookie to reach the finish line. Here’s a statistic from each driver’s 2022 Singapore Grand Prix weekend!
🇳🇱 Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen’s five-race winning streak came to an end with a seventh place finish in Singapore. This was only the second time in the last 14 races that Verstappen failed to finish on the podium, having also finished seventh in the British Grand Prix. Verstappen didn’t get chance to complete his final qualifying lap on Saturday, so qualified only eighth. It equalled his worst Singapore Grand Prix qualifying result, set in 2015. Nevertheless, the Dutchman maintained his 100% Q3 record at Marina Bay.
🇲🇽 Sergio Perez
After securing the fifth front row start of his career and out-qualifying his team-mate for the fourth time this season, Sergio Perez took victory at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, becoming the fifth driver to have won at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Perez recorded the fourth victory of his career, becoming the 58th driver to win four or more races in Formula 1. Perez ties with the career win tallies of Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren and Eddie Irvine. Perez also became the 58th different driver to have led a Grand Prix from start to finish.
2022 is the first season in which Perez has taken multiple Grand Prix wins. Perez became the first driver to win the Singapore Grand Prix having started from second on the grid. This was the first time Perez has finished in the top five in Singapore. His previous best Marina Bay result was fifth place in 2017.
🇬🇧 Lewis Hamilton
Qualifying in third place, Lewis Hamilton secured his best qualifying result of the 2022 season to date. Hamilton finished the Singapore Grand Prix in ninth place, which is his lowest finishing position at a Singapore Grand Prix in which he has reached the chequered flag. Having started third, Hamilton becomes the first driver starting third at the Singapore Grand Prix to fail to finish on the podium since 2013.
🇬🇧 George Russell
For the first time since the Miami Grand Prix, George Russell failed to reach the final part of qualifying. Finishing only 14th, this was only the second race of the season at which Russell failed to score and his first point-less race since the British Grand Prix. Russell’s 14th place marked the first time that a Mercedes driver failed to score at the Singapore Grand Prix since 2015.
🇲🇨 Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc took the 18th pole position of his career at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, equalling Mario Andretti, Rene Arnoux and Kimi Raikkonen for 16th in the all-time list of most poles. He has taken half of his career poles during the 2022 season. Leclerc became the first driver to take back-to-back pole positions at the Singapore Grand Prix in its 13-race history, but still remains winless. This was the second Singapore Grand Prix in a row at which Leclerc has started from pole position and finished second.
Leclerc finished on the podium for the third consecutive race. It’s his first run of three successive podium results since the opening three races of the year. He became the 50th driver to record 21 podium finishes during his Formula 1 career.
🇪🇸 Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz recorded his first Singapore Grand Prix podium finish and his 14th in total, equalling the career tally of Richie Ginther. As a result of picking up more points, Sainz became the 18th driver to have scored in 100 Grands Prix. The Spaniard qualified in fourth place, securing his best Singapore Grand Prix qualifying result. His previous best was sixth place in 2016 with Toro Rosso.
🇦🇺 Daniel Ricciardo
Despite recording his first Q1 exit at the Singapore Grand Prix since 2011, Daniel Ricciardo recorded his best race result of the season to date with fifth place. It was his first top five finish since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo gained 11 places over the course of the Singapore Grand Prix. It’s the most positions he has gained in a single race since making up 12 places at the 2018 Russian Grand Prix. Ricciardo’s fifth place marks the best ever result for the driver starting 16th on the grid at the Singapore Grand Prix. The grid position had scored only once previously, with a tenth place finish for Felipe Nasr in 2015.
🇬🇧 Lando Norris
Lando Norris finished in the top four for the first time since his podium finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, recording McLaren’s best Singapore Grand Prix result since 2011. Norris qualified in sixth place, which was the team’s best Marina Bay qualifying result since Lewis Hamilton took pole position in 2012.
🇪🇸 Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso made his 350th race start at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, overtaking Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to have started the most races in F1 history. The weekend started promisingly for Alonso, who equalled his second-best Singapore Grand Prix qualifying result with fifth place; his best qualifying result in Singapore since 2014. He reached Q3 for the 192nd time, overtaking Raikkonen for the third-most Q3 appearances since the qualifying system was introduced in 2006.
Alonso’s 350th race ended in disappointment, as he retired for a second consecutive race. This was his third DNF in his last five Singapore Grand Prix appearances.
🇫🇷 Esteban Ocon
Esteban Ocon qualified only 18th, recording his third Q1 elimination of the year – his first since the Miami Grand Prix. He went on to retire from the race. With Fernando Alonso also retiring, the Enstone-based team recorded their first ever double retirement at the Singapore Grand Prix.
🇫🇷 Pierre Gasly
On the fifth anniversary of his maiden F1 appearance, Gasly reached Q3 in Singapore for the first time. On Sunday, Gasly scored at consecutive races for the first time since the Saudi Arabian and Australian Grands Prix. Scoring a single point with a tenth place finish, Gasly became the 50th driver to have scored in 50 Grands Prix.
🇯🇵 Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda crashed out of the race. He was one of three drivers – along with Zhou Guanyu and Nicholas Latifi – to join a small group of drivers with a 100% DNF rate at the Singapore Grand Prix. Christian Klien, Narain Karthikeyan and Nelson Piquet Jr. also retired on every appearance.
🇩🇪 Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel recorded his fourth top eight finish of the season with eighth place. This was the third time he’s finished eighth in 2022. It was only the second time that Vettel has not finished in the top five at the Singapore Grand Prix, after his retirement in 2017. On Saturday, Vettel missed out on Q3 at the Singapore Grand Prix for only the second time in his career. His Q1 elimination in 2016 is his only worst qualifying result at the venue.
🇨🇦 Lance Stroll
Finishing sixth, Lance Stroll recorded his best result of the season to date. This was the sixth time Stroll has scored in 2022, but the first time he has finished above tenth place. Stroll last finished in the top six at the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix. This was Stroll’s best ever result at the Singapore Grand Prix. It’s the first time he has scored at the event since finishing eighth in 2017. Stroll is still yet to reach Q3 in Singapore, but this was the first time that he’s made it to Q2 at Marina Bay.
🇹🇭 Alex Albon
With both Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon failing to finish the race, Williams recorded their first double DNF since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It was the team’s first double retirement in Singapore since 2012.
🇨🇦 Nicholas Latifi
Nicholas Latifi became only the seventh driver to record 50 Q1 exits. Latifi reached the milestone in record time, doing so on his 56th appearance. The previous record for the fewest number of races in which a driver has reached 50 Q1 eliminations was for Marcus Ericsson, who did so on his 66th appearance.
🇫🇮 Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas failed to make it out of Q1 in Singapore for the first time in his career. This was the Finn’s third Q1 elimination in the last four races. Bottas missed out on points in the race but, with 11th place, recorded his best result since the Austrian Grand Prix. This was the first time Bottas has failed to score in Singapore since 2016.
🇨🇳 Zhou Guanyu
Zhou Guanyu was eliminated in the opening stages of the Singapore Grand Prix following a collision with Nicholas Latifi – for which the Williams driver picked up a 5-place grid penalty at the next race. This was Zhou’s sixth retirement of the season.
🇩🇪 Mick Schumacher
Mick Schumacher finished the Singapore Grand Prix in 13th place. With team-mate Kevin Magnussen one position ahead, this was the fifth consecutive race in which both Haas drivers have finished without picking up any points. This being his first appearance in Singapore, Schumacher joined a group of 17 other drivers who’ve completed every race they’ve started at Marina Bay. He was the only one of the four Singapore rookies on the grid to finish the race.
🇩🇰 Kevin Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen made his 96th start with the Haas team, equalling Romain Grosjean as the driver to have started the most races with the American team. Magnussen reached Q3 in Singapore for the first time since 2014. This was only the second time that a Haas driver has reached Q3 at Marina Bay. Grosjean qualified eighth with the team in 2018.
