2022 Bahrain Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu became the first Chinese driver to compete in a Grand Prix as well as the 90th different driver to start an F1 race at Bahrain International Circuit. Zhou impressed on his debut, scoring a point with tenth place on his first outing. China became the 34th nation to score points in F1, while Zhou is the 66th driver to score points in his maiden Grand Prix.
2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu’s 100% finish record remained intact after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. While his team-mate retired, Zhou finished just outside of the points in eleventh place. The Chinese driver qualified two positions better than he did on debut.
2022 Australian Grand Prix
Finishing in 11th place, Zhou Guanyu remained yet to finish below 11th in his Formula 1 career after the Australian Grand Prix.
2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu finished 15th in the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, marking the first time he has finished outside of the top eleven. He’s the first driver to finish inside the top 15 at all of his first four Grands Prix since Alex Albon in 2019.
2022 Miami Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu was the first driver to retire from the Miami Grand Prix. He recorded the first retirement of his Formula 1 career. This was also the second DNF for Alfa Romeo in the 2022 season.
2022 Spanish Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu recorded the second and final retirement from the race. Zhou has now retired from both of the last two races. Zhou became the first driver to retire having started 15th at the Spanish Grand Prix since Heikki Kovalainen in 2011.
2022 Monaco Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu recorded Alfa Romeo’s second Q2 exit of the season and the first back row qualification of his career. It was the first time since 2018 that the team has seen a car eliminated in Q1 at the Monaco Grand Prix.
2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
For the first time in Formula 1, Zhou Guanyu out-qualified his team-mate. Zhou retired from the race when running inside the top ten. This was Zhou’s third retirement in the last four races. All three retirements have been caused by mechanical issues. Zhou is the first Alfa Romeo driver to retire from a race at Baku City Circuit.
2022 Canadian Grand Prix
Out-qualifying his team-mate for the second race in a row, Zhou Guanyu reached Q3 for the first time in his Formula 1 career. Overall, he is the 63rd driver to appear in Q3 since the qualifying system was introduced in 2006. Zhou’s tenth place in qualifying was the first time that his team has reached Q3 at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2008. In the race, Zhou recorded his best result in Formula 1 to date with eighth place. This was the first time he has scored since the Bahrain Grand Prix.
2022 British Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu recorded the best qualifying result of his career to date with ninth place. This was Zhou’s second consecutive Q3 appearance. He is the first driver to reach Q3 at Silverstone with the former Sauber team since Charles Leclerc in 2018.
Zhou was lucky to escape without injury in a Turn 1 crash at the British Grand Prix. This was his fourth retirement in the last six races – the first not to be caused by a mechanical issue.
2022 Austrian Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu made this the fifth consecutive race at the Red Bull Ring in which an Alfa Romeo driver has been eliminated in Q1. Finishing in 14th place, Zhou finished in a worse position than where he started for the first time in his career – not counting his four retirements.
2022 French Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu qualified in 18th place, recording his second consecutive Q1 exit. This was the first time he has recorded consecutive Q1 exits in his F1 career. On Sunday, Zhou recorded the fifth retirement of his career. This was his fifth retirement in the last eight races. This was the former Sauber team’s first DNF at Circuit Paul Ricard.
2022 Hungarian Grand Prix
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Zhou Guanyu made it out of Q1 for first time since Silverstone. He finished 13th – his best result since scoring points in Canada
2022 Belgian Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu became the ninth driver to finish 14th on their first appearance at Spa. He’s the third driver to do so since 2017, after Stoffel Vandoorne and Brendon Hartley.
2022 Dutch Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu was one of three drivers to compete at Zandvoort in F1 machinery for the first time in 2022, along with Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen. The trio’s presence on the grid took the total number of drivers to have started the Dutch Grand Prix in World Championship history to 204. This was Zhou’s first appearance at the track since racing in the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Zhou qualified in 14th place for the Dutch Grand Prix and came home 16th.
2022 Italian Grand Prix
With tenth place, Zhou Guanyu picked up points for the third time in his career. It was the first time he or the Alfa Romeo team has scored since the Canadian Grand Prix. Along with Nyck de Vries, Zhou joined a small group of drivers who have scored on every outing at Monza. Lando Norris is the only other current driver in that group.
2022 Singapore Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu was eliminated in the opening stages of the Singapore Grand Prix following a collision with Nicholas Latifi – for which the Williams driver picked up a 5-place grid penalty at the next race. This was Zhou’s sixth retirement of the season.
2022 Japanese Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu recorded the fastest lap of the race for the first time in his career. He became the 136th driver to set the fastest lap in a World Championship race. It was the first fastest lap for the Alfa Romeo marque since Andrea de Cesaris set the fastest lap in the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix and the first fastest lap for the former Sauber team since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
2022 United States Grand Prix
For the fourth time in the last five races, Zhou Guanyu qualified in 14th place. Zhou had set a lap time good enough to join his team-mate in Q3, but it was deleted as he exceeded track limits. Zhou finished in 11th place following Alonso’s post-race penalty, which would have made this the third consecutive United States Grand Prix in which an Alfa Romeo driver finished in 11th place. However, he dropped back down to 12th as Alonso’s penalty was overturned.
2022 Mexico City Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu failed to score for the fourth race in a row, coming home in 13th place. He lost one position from where he started.
2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix
Zhou Guanyu finished in 12th place, equalling his best result since he last scored points. This was the third time in his career that Zhou has reached the chequered flag at four consecutive races.
2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
With Valtteri Bottas out in Q1 and Zhou Guanyu qualifying 15th, this was the first time since 2019 that neither Alfa Romeo driver qualified in the top 14 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Zhou recorded his third 12th place finish in the last four Grands Prix. This was the first time Zhou has finished five races in a row.
