RACE BY RACE: MAX VERSTAPPEN’S 2023 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2023 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

It was the perfect start to the season for Max Verstappen. On Saturday, Verstappen recorded his 21st pole position, overtaking Damon Hill and Valtteri Bottas for 14th in the all-time list of most Formula 1 poles. After becoming Bahrain International Circuit’s seventh repeat polesitter, Verstappen went on to win the race. His victory at the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix was the 36th of his career and marked the first time he has won the season-opening event.

Verstappen’s victory at the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix makes him only the 14^th driver to have won in eight different Formula 1 seasons. Having won at least one race in every year since 2016, Verstappen is only the sixth driver to have won in eight consecutive seasons.

Having never previously won the Bahrain Grand Prix, Bahrain International Circuit became the 22^nd different track at which Verstappen has recorded a victory. He equalled Alain Prost for third in the all-time list of most circuits at which a driver has won.

The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix is the 20^th consecutive race at which Verstappen has scored points. It’s only the ninth time in Formula 1 that a driver has scored at 20 consecutive races. Verstappen is one race away from equalling his personal best consecutive scoring streak.

Having only ever won with Red Bull, Verstappen recorded his 36^th win with the team. That saw him move ahead of Ayrton Senna in the list of drivers who’ve won the most races with a single team. Senna won 35 races with McLaren during his career. Verstappen now sits fourth on this particular list.

Verstappen also equalled Senna in the list of most wins in car number 1. This was the 16^th time that Verstappen took victory in car number 1, equalling Senna for third on the all-time list.

2023 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

After setting the fastest lap time in all three practice sessions, Max Verstappen failed to reach Q4 at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It ended a 30-race streak of consecutive Q3 appearances for the Dutch driver, which began at the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix.

Verstappen recovered to finish the race in second place, marking the first time he has finished as runner-up – or on the podium without winning – since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix. Verstappen became the 14^th driver to record a podium finish at a round of the World Championship from 15^th on the grid. The last driver to do so was Carlos Sainz, at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

This was the first time Verstappen finished a race having started 15^th on the grid. His other starts from 15^th, both at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2015 and 2018, both resulted in retirements.

2023 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

After taking pole at a 15th different circuit, Max Verstappen secured his first Australian Grand Prix, taking victory at a 23rd different circuit. Lewis Hamilton is now the only driver who has won at more circuits than Verstappen.

The Dutchman equalled Fernando Alonso’s tally of pole positions on Saturday and on Sunday equalled Ayrton Senna’s tally of 80 podium finishes. His 2023 Australian Grand Prix saw Verstappen score for a 22^nd consecutive race, setting a new personal best for most races in a row in which he has scored. It is the sixth longest points streak in F1 history.

The 2023 Australian Grand Prix marked Verstappen’s 17^th win in car number 1, overtaking Senna as the driver with the most wins in car number 1. Verstappen became the first Albert Park polesitter who did not lead at the end of the first lap to go on and take back the lead and win the race.

2023 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Qualifying in second place for the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Max Verstappen recorded his first front row start at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Verstappen finished the race where he started and recorded his 81st podium finish, overtaking Ayrton Senna for seventh in the list of most podium finishes in Formula 1.

Verstappen’s second place finish made the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix the 23^rd consecutive race in which he finished in the points-paying positions, equalling Fernando Alonso for the fifth longest points-scoring streak in Formula 1 history.

2023 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Despite qualifying only ninth for the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen now holds the Track Record at Miami International Autodrome. His lap time of 1:26.814, set in Q2 on used tyres, was faster than any lap time set in Q3.

Starting ninth didn’t stop Verstappen from winning the race. He became the first driver to win from ninth on the grid since Niki Lauda at the 1984 French Grand Prix. The ninth grid slot has by far the fewest wins of any grid position in the top ten. Verstappen’s victory was only the fifth from ninth on the grid in Formula 1 history. Verstappen became only the eighth driver to have won from as many as eight different grid positions during his career. He needs to win from one more grid slot to equal Alonso’s record of most different grid slots from which a driver has taken victory.

Recording the 38^th victory of his career at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, Verstappen equalled Sebastian Vettel as the driver to have won the most races with Red Bull. Only Lewis Hamilton (with Mercedes) and Michael Schumacher (with Ferrari) sit ahead of Verstappen on the list of most wins with a single team.

Having also won the inaugural race in Miami, Verstappen’s 2023 Miami Grand Prix win makes this the 18^th time that the same driver has won each of the first two races at a new venue in Formula 1.

Scoring points for the 24^th race in a row, Verstappen equalled Michael Schumacher for the fourth longest points streak in Formula 1 history.

Verstappen recorded the 23^rd fastest lap of his career, equalling Juan Manuel Fangio, Nelson Piquet and Fernando Alonso for 12^th place in the list of most fastest laps.

2023 MONACO GRAND PRIX

After moving ahead of Fernando Alonso to 13^th in the all-time list of most pole positions on Saturday, Max Verstappen won the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, becoming the 17^th driver to take multiple wins in Monaco.

This was the 39^th victory of Verstappen’s career, which sees him overtake Sebastian Vettel as the driver to have scored the most wins with the Red Bull team. Verstappen now sits third in the list of drivers who’ve taken the most wins with a single team.

Verstappen led every lap of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, making it the eighth race which he led from start to finish. Verstappen became only the eighth driver to have led as many as eight F1 races from start to end.

At the end of the first lap of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, Verstappen became the seventh driver to have led 2,000 laps in Formula 1. He also moved ahead of Fernando Alonso in the all-time list of most points scored in Formula 1. The 2023 Monaco Grand Prix was the 25^th consecutive race in which Verstappen scored, seeing him overtake Michael Schumacher for the fourth longest points scoring streak in Formula 1.

Verstappen won the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix by 27.921 seconds – the largest win margin since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix. It was the largest win margin in Monaco since 1999, when Michael Schumacher won by 30.476 seconds.

2023 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

After equalling Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet for 11^th in the all-time list of most pole positions on Saturday at the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen recorded the third Grand Slam of his career. Verstappen became the tenth driver to record three Grand Slams with the 40th victory of his Formula 1 career, becoming the sixth driver to reach 40 Grand Prix wins.

Notably, the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix also marked Verstappen’s 150th Q3 appearance, made him the seventh driver to have taken pole position at 18 different circuits, marked the ninth race he has led from start to finish and saw him overtake Nigel Mansell as the driver to have led the sixth most Grand Prix laps in Formula 1 history.

This was also the second consecutive race which Verstappen won by over 20 seconds. It’s the 31^st time in Formula 1 that a driver has won consecutive races by over 20 seconds. Verstappen is only the fourth driver to achieve the feat this millennium and is the first to do so since Lewis Hamilton at the 2021 Qatar and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.

2023 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen equalled Ayrton Senna’s number of Formula 1 wins at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. Verstappen became the sixth driver to take poles at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in successive seasons and the fourth – after Alan Jones, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to win consecutive races at the track.

On his way to becoming the fifth driver to have won 20 World Championship races from pole position, Verstappen became the fifth driver to have led 200 consecutive laps in Formula 1 (the first driver to do so since Sebastian Vettel in 2012) and the fifth – after Alberto Ascari, Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna and Sebastian Vettel – to have led every lap at three consecutive races.

Max Verstappen secured the 25th pole position of his career by 1.244 seconds. It was the largest pole margin since Nico Rosberg took pole for the 2014 British Grand Prix by 1.620 seconds and the largest pole margin ever seen at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Verstappen picked up points for the 27^th consecutive race weekend, equalling the longest points-scoring streak of Kimi Raikkonen’s career. It put him third in the list of the longest points streaks in Formula 1.

2023 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

After equalling Mika Hakkinen for tenth in the all-time list of most F1 poles with his 26th pole position on Friday at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen went on to win Saturday’s Sprint race, win Sunday’s Grand Prix and set the fastest lap.

Over the weekend, Verstappen equalled his own longest pole and win streaks, overtook Ayrton Senna’s total Grand Prix victories, became the first driver to take four consecutive poles in Austria, extended the record for most front row starts, wins, fastest laps and podiums at the Red Bull Ring, overtook Lewis Hamilton for most points scored at the track, overtook Kimi Raikkonen for the third-longest scoring streak in Formula 1 and became the fifth driver to achieve a streak of ten podium finishes. Verstappen also became only the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to have won five consecutive races on two separate occasions during his career.

Losing the lead to Charles Leclerc when he made his first pit stop, Verstappen’s 248 lap streak of laps led in Formula 1 finally came to an end. It ended up as the third longest such streak in Formula 1 history and the longest since Senna led 264 consecutive laps between the 1988 British and Italian Grands Prix.

2023 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

On the weekend where he became the fifth driver to make 150 appearances with a single team, Max Verstappen won from pole position for a fifth consecutive race. Verstappen secured his 27th pole position and moved ahead of Mika Hakkinen for tenth in the list of most Formula 1 pole positions. This was Verstappen’s fifth consecutive pole position, which makes this the longest pole streak of his career to date. With pole position at the 2023 British Grand Prix, Verstappen secured the 50^th front row start of his Formula 1 career. He is the eighth driver to start on the front row at 50 races.

Max Verstappen secured his first British Grand Prix win on Sunday. He had previously won at Silverstone, however, with a win at the one-off 70^th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020. Taking his sixth consecutive win, Verstappen became only the fifth driver – after Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg – to take six Grand Prix wins in a row.

With his 11^th consecutive podium finish, Verstappen became only the fifth driver in Formula 1 history to secure top three finishes at 11 races in a row. Verstappen is the first driver to achieve the feat since Lewis Hamilton in 2015.

2023 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

On the weekend he overtook David Coulthard as the driver to have made the fourth-most appearances with a single team (and equalled Kimi Raikkonen for third in the all-time list), Max Verstappen recorded a seventh consecutive victory. He became only the fifth driver – after Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg – to record seven consecutive Grand Prix wins.

Winning from second on the grid, this was the 22^nd time that Verstappen won from a position other than pole. He equalled Sebastian Vettel for fourth in the list of most wins from a position other than pole. Having also won last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen became the sixth driver to have won the event in successive years, after Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Jacques Villeneuve, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen is the tenth driver to record multiple Hungarian Grand Prix victories.

Verstappen became only the fourth driver in Formula 1 history to record podium finishes at 12 consecutive races and only the second driver to pick up points at 30 races in a row. For the 11^th time in his career – and the fourth time this year – Verstappen led every lap of the race. He is only the seventh driver to have led 11 races from start to end. The 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix marked only the eighth time that a driver has led every lap of a race at the Hungaroring. Verstappen is the first driver to lead every lap of a race here since Lewis Hamilton in 2007.

2023 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

On the weekend he overtook Kimi Raikkonen for third in the list of most starts with a single team, Max Verstappen also became the eighth driver to make 175 consecutive Grand Prix starts.

For the second year in a row, Max Verstappen set the fastest qualifying lap time at the Belgian Grand Prix. Verstappen secured the fastest qualifying time by 0.820 seconds – the largest margin by which a driver has set the fastest lap time in qualifying at Spa since Juan Pablo Montoya took pole for the 2002 Belgian Grand Prix by 0.887 seconds. However, for the second year in a row, a grid penalty meant that he did not start from pole. He dropped to sixth on the final grid.

After winning Saturday’s Sprint from pole position, Verstappen took victory at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, winning for the eighth race in a row. Verstappen is only the second driver, after Sebastian Vettel in 2013, to record eight consecutive Formula 1 victories. 2023 becomes the third consecutive season in which Verstappen has won ten or more races. As it stands, he has won 83% of races held this season.

Verstappen won the Belgian Grand Prix for the third year in a row. That saw him become the fifth driver – after Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen – to record three consecutive Belgian Grand Prix victories.

Winning from sixth on the grid, Verstappen won from a ninth different grid slot. Fernando Alonso is the only other driver to have won from nine different grid positions in his career. Verstappen is the first driver to win from sixth on the grid since Sergio Perez did so at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the first driver to win from sixth at Spa since Kimi Raikkonen in 2009. Recording his 23^rd win from a position other than pole, Verstappen moved ahead of Sebastian Vettel to fourth in the list of most wins away from pole.

Verstappen won the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix by 22.305 seconds – the largest win margin at Spa since 2005, when Kimi Raikkonen won by 28.394 seconds.

2023 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

For the third year in a row, Max Verstappen won his home race from pole position. With pole at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen equalled Rene Arnoux as the driver to have taken the most poles at Zandvoort and became the first driver to take three successive pole positions at the track. His pole put him one short of equalling Juan Manuel Fangio for ninth in Formula 1’s all-time pole position list.

On Sunday, with his ninth victory in a row, Verstappen equalled Sebastian Vettel’s record for the most consecutive wins in World Championship history. Verstappen became only the fourth driver – after Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda – to have taken three victories at the Dutch Grand Prix. He also equalled the record for the longest winning streak at Zandvoort. His third win in a row at the track matched Clark’s record of three successive Dutch Grand Prix wins in 1963, 1964 and 1965.

Leading 61 laps of the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen is behind only Clark on the list of most laps led at Zandvoort. After the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen had led 628 laps in 2023. That’s 12 more laps than he led in total in 2022.

Verstappen remains the only driver to have recorded multiple podium finishes at Zandvoort since the Dutch Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar. This was the 90th podium finish of his career. He became the seventh driver to reach the milestone – the first to do so since Kimi Raikkonen at the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix. This was Verstappen’s 14^th consecutive podium finish, extending the fourth-longest podium streak in F1 history.

Verstappen became the eighth driver to win on home soil on three occasions in his Formula 1 career, as well as the seventh to do so in three successive seasons.

2023 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

After qualifying on the front row for the ninth consecutive race, the 2023 Italian Grand Prix saw an historic occasion for Max Verstappe, who became the first driver in Formula 1 history to win ten consecutive races. It saw him break Sebastian Vettel’s decade-old record of nine successive wins.

He became the first driver since Hamilton, in 2017 and 2018, to take successive wins at Monza and the 20th to have won multiple Monza races in Formula 1’s history at the venue. Having led 33 laps of the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, Verstappen became the sixth driver to have led 2,500 laps in Formula 1 on his way to equalling the third longest podium streak and the second-longest points-scoring streak in Formula 1 history.

2023 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

For the first time since the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen did not qualify in the top two – nor did he reach Q3 – ending a 12 race streak of consecutive front row qualifications. It was also the first time that Verstappen failed to qualify in the top eight at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Despite his win and podium streaks coming to an end, Verstappen’s fifth place finish in the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix ensured he set a new second-longest scoring streak in Formula 1 and equalled Daniel Ricciardo for the second-longest finishing streak. The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix marked only the fourth time in the last 34 races that Verstappen has not finished on the podium.

Verstappen’s fifth place matched the best result from 11^th on the grid at the Singapore Grand Prix. Jenson Button also finished fifth having started 11^th with Brawn GP in 2009.

2023 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen returned to winning ways at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix with his 13th victory of the season. After securing his 29th pole position on Saturday and equalling Juan Manuel Fangio for ninth in the all-time list of most poles with the biggest pole margin at Suzuka since 2003, Verstappen became the eighth driver to have won multiple F1 races at the track on Sunday.

Winning the race by the third largest margin seen at Suzuka, Verstappen became only the second driver – after Lewis Hamilton – to have finished 35 consecutive Grands Prix. He became the fifth driver to set the fastest lap at 20 different circuits in his career and led 51 laps on his way to victory, putting him second in the list of most laps led in a single year (712 after Suzuka). After the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship by 177 points, which is a new record for the biggest points lead ever held.

2023 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen was crowned World Champion for the third time at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, becoming the first driver to be crowned champion on a Saturday since Nelson Piquet in 1987. At 664 days, Verstappen set a new record for the shortest gap between first and third title wins.

On Friday, Verstappen secured his tenth pole of the year and the 30^th pole position of his Formula 1 career. The latter saw him equal Nico Rosberg for eighth place in the all time pole list, while the former saw him equal his personal best for most poles in a year, from 2021. Lusail Circuit became the 19^th different circuit at which Verstappen took pole position. He equalled Michael Schumacher for sixth in the list of most circuits at which a driver has taken pole.

Winning a Grand Prix for the 49^th victory of his Formula 1 career, Verstappen recorded his 14^th win of the 2023 season. He is the only driver to have won 14 Grands Prix in a single year and victory in Qatar put him one away from equalling his own record – set in 2022 – for most victories in a season.

2023 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen set the provisional pole lap time – 0.005 seconds faster than Charles Leclerc’s pole time – at the 2023 United States Grand Prix, but it was deleted due to the Red Bull driver exceeding track limits. It dropped him to sixth on the grid, marking the fourth time this year that he qualified away from the front row.

Becoming the first driver to win at Circuit of The Americas having not started from the front row of the grid, Verstappen became the fifth driver in Formula 1 history to record 50 victories with his win at the 2023 United States Grand Prix. Verstappen is the second driver to record his 50^th win at COTA – Lewis Hamilton achieved the same feat at the track back in 2016. Verstappen achieved his 50^th victory on his 181^st start – the second fewest starts in which a driver has amassed 50 wins. Michael Schumacher achieved his 50^th win on his 154^th race start. This was Verstappen’s 15^th victory of the 2023 season, equalling his own record from last year of most wins in a single season. Verstappen became the second driver, after Hamilton, to record three consecutive wins at Circuit of The Americas.

2023 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen qualified third for the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix, making this the first time since the 2022 Monaco and Azerbaijan Grands Prix that he did not qualify on the front row at successive races.

Verstappen recorded his 16^th win of the 2023 Formula 1 season at the Mexico City Grand Prix, setting a new record for the most victories in a single season. Verstappen recorded the 51^st victory of his Formula 1 career, equalling Alain Prost for fourth place in the all-time win list. During the race, Verstappen also passed Prost for fourth place in the list of most laps led in Formula 1.

This was Verstappen’s fifth win in Mexico, extending the record for most wins in the country. After becoming the first driver to win two Mexico races in a row in 2022, the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix saw him become the first driver to take three consecutive wins in the country. Having previously won the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix on October 29, Verstappen became the 14^th driver to have won the same race on the same date twice. It’s the 22^nd time that a driver has achieved this feat in Formula 1.

During the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix, Max Verstappen became the first driver to have led 300 laps at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. No other driver has led more than 200 laps here.

2023 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen set a new personal best for most pole positions in a year at the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. 2023 became the 13^th season in which a driver took 11 or more pole positions. Having previously taken pole here in 2019, Verstappen became the 11^th driver to have taken multiple pole positions at Interlagos.

In the Grand Prix, Verstappen claimed his 52^nd victory, overtaking Alain Prost for fourth place in Formula 1’s all-time win list. Prost had sat in the top four of all-time Formula 1 wins since the 1986 Australian Grand Prix. Verstappen became the 11^th driver to record multiple wins at Interlagos during its time on the F1 calendar.

With Verstappen remaining top of the Drivers’ Championship after the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, the Dutchman equalled Michael Schumacher for the record of most consecutive races spent leading the standings.

2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

In Formula 1’s first race in Las Vegas in over 40 years, Max Verstappen took victory at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This was the 53^rd victory of Verstappen’s career, equalling Sebastian Vettel for third in Formula 1’s all-time win list.

Verstappen became the first driver to record two streaks of six or more victories during a single season, having previously won ten races in a row between the Miami and Italian Grands Prix. Verstappen is the second driver to record two separate streaks of six or more consecutive wins during his career, after Michael Schumacher.

Recording his 20^th podium finish of the year, Verstappen extended the record for most top three results in a single season. Las Vegas Strip Circuit is the 31st different circuit on which Verstappen has taken a podium finish, overtaking Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to have taken podiums at the second-most different circuits in Formula 1.

The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix was the 40^th consecutive race in which Verstappen scored points, becoming only the second driver – after Lewis Hamilton – to have picked up points in as many as 40 races in a row. Verstappen has scored at every race since the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Leading the championship for the 38^th consecutive race after the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Verstappen set a new record for the most consecutive races at the top of the championship standings. He eclipsed Michael Schumacher’s former record of 37 consecutive races in the lead, from the 2000 United States Grand Prix to the 2002 Japanese Grand Prix.

The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix was the 150th race in which Verstappen scored a point. He is the ninth driver to have scored in 150 races in Formula 1.

2023 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, becoming the sixth driver to have take pole at 12 or more races in a single season and extending the record for most consecutive poles at Yas Marina Circuit to four.

On Sunday, Verstappen secured a record-extending fourth consecutive win at the track, a record-breaking 19^th victory of the year and the 54^th Grand Prix win of his career, overtaking Sebastian Vettel for third in the list of most Formula 1 victories. His win saw him set a new record for the highest winning percentage in a single year. He won 86.36% of races in 2023 – eclipsing Alberto Ascari’s former record of 75% from 1952.

The 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Verstappen’s seventh consecutive victory, making it only the sixth time that a driver won seven successive races in F1. Verstappen became the first driver to achieve the feat twice in a single season.

Completing every lap of the race, Verstappen became the third driver to have raced every single lap in a Formula 1 season. The only other drivers to have done so are Michael Schumacher in 2002 and Lewis Hamilton in 2019. He’s also the tenth driver to complete every race in a season; the first driver to do so since Carlos Sainz in 2021.

Leading 52 laps of the race, Verstappen took his total of laps led for the 2023 season to 1,003 and became the first driver to have led over 1,000 Grand Prix laps in a single season. The previous record for most laps led in a year was 739, for Sebastian Vettel in 2011.

Verstappen’s podium finish was the 100^th top three result for a Dutch driver in Formula 1. Verstappen has taken 98 of the Netherlands’ podiums in F1, while his father Jos Verstappen has taken two.

Crossing the finish line for the ninth time at Yas Marina Circuit, Verstappen overtook Felipe Massa as the driver to have made the most Abu Dhabi Grand Prix starts without recording a retirement.
