2024 Austrian Grand Prix: Milestones and F1 Records Which Could Be Broken

Verstappen could take his 30th win from a position other than pole, Hamilton could become the first driver to score in 300 races and Ferrari could reach 10,000 points scored. Here are the milestones and the records which could be broken at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix!

THE 2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX MILESTONES

The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix will be the 1,112th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.

This will be the 39th time that Formula 1 has raced in Austria and the 38th time that the sport has visited the venue now known as the Red Bull Ring. At the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, the venue will overtake Hockenheim as the circuit which has hosted the ninth most Formula 1 races.

The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix will be the 43rd Austrian Grand Prix since the event was first held in 1963. It will be the 37th time that the Austrian Grand Prix will be run as a round of the F1 World Championship.

The Red Bull Ring will play host to the third of this year’s six F1 Sprint events over the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix weekend. It will be the third time that the track has hosted a Sprint event.

Daniel Ricciardo will make his 250th Grand Prix start at the Austrian Grand Prix. He becomes the 11th driver to have made as many as 250 Grand Prix starts.

Kimi Raikkonen’s record of most F1 appearances in Austria will be equalled this weekend by three drivers. Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas all make their 13th appearances at the Red Bull Ring at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.

The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix is the fifth Formula 1 race to take place on June 30. It’s the second time the Red Bull Ring will host a race on this date, after the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix.

THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN

A top three finish for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would mark his 107th podium result in F1. That would put him fourth in the all-time podium list, overtaking Alain Prost and Fernando Alonso.

A victory for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would make the Red Bull Ring the first circuit at which he has recorded six wins in his Formula 1 career.

The United States is currently the country in which Max Verstappen has taken the most Grand Prix wins. A victory at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would see Austria equal the United States as the country in which Verstappen has taken the most race wins.

If Max Verstappen does not take pole position but does win the Grand Prix, he would become the fourth driver – after Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost – to have won 30 Grands Prix without starting from the front of the grid.

A top ten finish for Lewis Hamilton at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would make this the 300th Grand Prix weekend at which he has picked up a point.

A top three finish for Lewis Hamilton would be his 150th top three finish with Mercedes. He would become the first driver to have recorded 150 podium results with a single team.

If Ferrari score 58 points over the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix weekend, they would become the first team to have scored 10,000 points in Formula 1.

The Red Bull Ring is the first of four venues on the 2024 calendar at which Fernando Alonso has never previously taken a podium finish. A top three result for Alonso in the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would make the Red Bull Ring the 31st different circuit at which he has finished on the podium in Formula 1. That would see him surpass Kimi Raikkonen and equal Max Verstappen for second on the list of most circuits at which a driver has taken a podium finish.

A podium result this weekend for Max Verstappen would be his ninth podium finish at the Red Bull Ring. It would see the track re-take the outright top spot as the venue at which he has secured the most top three finishes, having been equalled last weekend by Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

A pole position for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would make the Red Bull Ring the first venue at which Verstappen has secured five pole positions.

At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.

If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.

A runner-up finish for Max Verstappen would see him record his 30th second place finish in Formula 1. He would move ahead of both Rubens Barrichello and Valtteri Bottas to seventh on the list of most runner-up finishes in F1.

A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.

A points finish for Logan Sargeant would make the United States the 12th country to score 1,000 points in World Championship history.

If Charles Leclerc takes pole position and fails to win, it would be the 20th time that he has done so in his Formula 1 career. That would see him overtake Nelson Piquet for fifth in the list of most failed pole to win conversions.

A pole position for Charles Leclerc would mark the 50th pole position for car number 16 in Formula 1.

A top three finish for Charles Leclerc would be his 36th podium finish with Ferrari. That would see him equal Felipe Massa for sixth on the list of most podium finishes with the team in Formula 1.

THE AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK

Victory for Max Verstappen would make this the sixth time that a driver has secured successive wins at the Red Bull Ring. Verstappen has achieved the feat twice previously.

McLaren and Mercedes are tied for most Grand Prix victories at the circuit now known as the Red Bull Ring. Either team could become the first to win seven races here at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, while Ferrari or Red Bull could equal the existing record tally.

Lewis Hamilton currently holds the record for most Grand Prix laps raced at the Red Bull Ring, with 843. His record could be beaten this weekend by Sergio Perez (if he races 45 laps more than Hamilton) or Valtteri Bottas (if he races 53 laps more than Hamilton).

Mercedes are currently tied with Ford Cosworth as the most successful engine manufacturer at the Spielberg circuit, each having won nine times. A win for a Mercedes-powered car at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would see them set a new outright record.

Max Verstappen has more podium finishes at the Red Bull Ring than any other driver, with eight. His record could be equalled at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix by Valtteri Bottas.

Max Verstappen’s record of four Fastest Laps at the Red Bull Ring could be equalled at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix by Lewis Hamilton.

Britain has the most wins of any nation at this circuit, with six. Their record could be equalled at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix by France or the Netherlands.

A second place finish for Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc would see them equal David Coulthard’s record of most runner-up finishes at the circuit now known as the Red Bull Ring.

Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas currently share the record for most finishes at the Red Bull Ring with 11 apiece. Any of those drivers could set a new outright record this weekend.

Lando Norris has made seven appearances to date at the Red Bull Ring without failing to score. He’s one of only five drivers with a 100% points-scoring rate in Austria and is currently tied with David Coulthard for the most appearances at the track without failing to score. A points finish for Norris in the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix would make him the first driver to score points on all of his first eight appearances at the track.

A first lap retirement for Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen or Esteban Ocon would see them equal the record for the most first lap DNFs at the Red Bull Ring.

2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS

A pole position for Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas would see them equal Max Verstappen’s record of four pole positions at the Red Bull Ring.

Pole position for a Red Bull driver would make Red Bull the first team to take five successive pole positions at the Red Bull Ring. Having taken pole at all four Red Bull Ring races since the 2021 Styrian Grand Prix, Red Bull are currently tied with Mercedes for the most successive poles at the track.

Lewis Hamilton has the most top ten qualifications in Austria of any driver, with 12. His record could be extended in qualifying for the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, or equalled by Max Verstappen. Hamilton and Verstappen are the only current drivers with a 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Red Bull Ring.

Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso are currently tied for the most Q2 exits at the Red Bull Ring, with five. Either driver could extend the record at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, while their existing record could be equalled by Daniel Ricciardo.

Sergio Perez can equal the record for most Q1 exits at the Red Bull Ring this weekend. He currently has four Q1 exits here, compared to five for Kimi Raikkonen and Nicholas Latifi.

LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR HAMILTON AND ALONSO

A victory for Lewis Hamilton at any race in 2024 would see him overtake Michael Schumacher as the driver to have won at least one race in the most Formula 1 seasons. Both Schumacher and Hamilton have won races in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would make him the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to record podium finishes in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.

Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.
