2024 Belgian Grand Prix: Milestones and F1 Records Which Could Be Broken

McLaren are on the hunt for their first consecutive 1-2s since 2010, Verstappen could endure his longest win-less streak since 2020 and Mercedes could become the second engine manufacturer to power 600 podium finishes. Here are the milestones and the records which could be broken at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix!

THE 2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX MILESTONES

The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix will be the 1,115th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.

This will be the 69th time that Formula 1 has raced in Belgium. It will be the 57th Belgian Grand Prix held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in World Championship history, as well as the 78th Belgian Grand Prix since the event was first held in 1925.

With Oscar Piastri having become the latest new Grand Prix winner at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix will be the first race to feature as many as 13 previous race winners on the grid since the 1980 Italian Grand Prix.

For the second year in a row, the Belgian Grand Prix will be the final race before the summer break. July 28 is the earliest date on which the Spa race will take place since 1987, when the event took place in May.

The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix marks the 81st Grand Prix at which Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have been team-mates. That sees them equal Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen as the driver pairing to have started the fifth-most races as team-mates.

George Russell makes his 59th start with Mercedes this weekend, overtaking Michael Schumacher as the driver to have made the fourth most starts with the team.

Zhou Guanyu will make his 58th start in car number 25 at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix. That sees him equal Timo Glock for the most starts in car 24.

This weekend, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso become the first drivers to make 18 starts at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix will be the sixth Formula 1 race to take place on July 28. The last race held on this date was the 2019 German Grand Prix.

THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN

The polesitter has not won any of the last five Grands Prix. If the polesitter fails to win the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, it would be the first time that the polesitter has failed to take victory at six races in a row since the six races between the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix and the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix.

If Red Bull fail to win the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, it would be the first time since the end of the 2020 season that they have failed to win at four consecutive Grands Prix. It would also be Max Verstappen’s longest win-less streak since failing to win 11 consecutive races between the 2020 Spanish and Sakhir Grands Prix.

A 1-2 finish for McLaren would mark the 50th 1-2 result in the team’s history. They would be only the third team – after Ferrari and Mercedes – to record 50 1-2 finishes. It would also be the first time since the 2010 Turkish and Canadian Grands Prix that McLaren have recorded 1-2 results at two races in a row.

A podium finish for Lewis Hamilton would mark the 150th time that the driver of car number 44 has finished on the podium. Hamilton has recorded all but three of the 149 podium finishes to date for car number 44.

Should two Mercedes-powered cars finish on the podium at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, Mercedes would become the second engine manufacturer, after Ferrari, to have powered 600 podium finishes in Formula 1.

A points finish for any Mercedes-powered car would make Mercedes the third engine manufacturer – after Ferrari and Renault – to have scored in 500 Grands Prix.

If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.

If Max Verstappen does not take pole position but does win the Grand Prix, he would become the fourth driver – after Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost – to have won 30 Grands Prix without starting from the front of the grid.

At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.

If Ferrari score six points over the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix weekend, they would become the first team to have scored 10,000 points in Formula 1.

A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.

A points finish for Logan Sargeant would make the United States the 12th country to score 1,000 points in World Championship history.

If Charles Leclerc takes pole position and fails to win, it would be the 20th time that he has done so in his Formula 1 career. That would see him overtake Nelson Piquet for fifth in the list of most failed pole to win conversions.

A pole position for Charles Leclerc would mark the 50th pole position for car number 16 in Formula 1.

A top three finish for Charles Leclerc would be his 36th podium finish with Ferrari. That would see him equal Felipe Massa for sixth on the list of most podium finishes with the team in Formula 1.

THE BELGIAN GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK

Victory for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix would make him the third driver – after Jim Clark and Ayrton Senna – to have won at Spa-Francorchamps in four consecutive seasons.

If Lewis Hamilton leads 20 laps of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, he will become the third driver – after Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher – to have led 200 laps at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. If he leads 32 laps of the race, Hamilton will overtake Senna for second in the list of most laps led at the track.

Lewis Hamilton is currently tied with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel for the most points-scoring appearances and most top ten finishes at the Belgian Grand Prix. A points-finish for Hamilton this weekend would make him the first driver to score points at Spa on 13 occasions.

2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS

If Max Verstappen is fastest in qualifying for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix it would be the fourth consecutive year in which he has set the fastest Q3 time. That would see him equal Ayrton Senna as the driver to have set the fastest qualifying time in the most consecutive seasons at Spa-Francorchamps. Senna did so between 1988 and 1991.

Ferrari have the record for most pole positions at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, with 12. McLaren would equal that record with pole position at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix.

A front row start for Lewis Hamilton would make him the first driver to make ten front row starts at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri is the only current driver with a 100% Q3 appearance record at the Belgian Grand Prix. If he reaches Q3 this weekend, he will remain in a group of just four drivers with a 100% Q3 appearance record at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo are currently tied with Daniil Kvyat and Marcus Ericsson for the most Q1 exits at the Belgian Grand Prix. Either driver could set a new outright record of four Q1 exits at Spa in qualifying for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, while Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz, Kevin Magnussen, Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas and Yuki Tsunoda could equal the existing record.

LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR ALONSO?

A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would make him the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to record podium finishes in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.

Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.
