HAMILTON TAKES RECORD-BREAKING 2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX WIN
Lewis Hamilton ended a 945 day win drought at the 2024 British Grand Prix, securing the 104th Grand Prix win of his Formula 1 career. This was Hamilton’s first win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The 2024 British Grand Prix marked Hamilton’s ninth victory at Silverstone – a new record for the most wins at a single circuit.
At the age of 39 years and 6 months, Hamilton became the oldest driver to win a Formula 1 race so far this millennium. Hamilton is the 11th oldest driver to have won a Grand Prix in F1 history and is the oldest driver to win since Nigel Mansell claimed victory at the 1994 Australian Grand Prix, at the age of 41 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Hamilton became the first driver to win a Grand Prix after making his 300th Grand Prix start. The 2024 British Grand Prix marked his 344th start.
Hamilton’s 2024 British Grand Prix victory came 17 years and 27 days after his first win at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, setting a new record for the longest time between first and last wins in F1 history. The previous record of 15 years, 6 months and 28 days was set by Kimi Raikkonen at the 2018 United States Grand Prix.
This was Hamilton’s ninth win on home soil, equalling Michael Schumacher as the driver who has won in his own country on the most occasions. Schumacher took nine wins in Germany at races under the German and European Grands Prix titles.
With Mercedes having also won the last race, this is the first time Mercedes have secured consecutive wins since the 2021 Qatar and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.
2024 is the 16th different season in which Hamilton has won a Grand Prix. That sees him overtake Michael Schumacher as the driver who has won a Grand Prix in the most different seasons.
As George Russell won the last race, this was the first time that two different British drivers have won consecutive Formula 1 races since the 2012 United States and Brazilian Grands Prix, which were won by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Hamilton’s win made 2024 the first season since 1999 in which three different British drivers have won a Grand Prix.

The 2024 British Grand Prix marked Hamilton’s 300th points-scoring Grand Prix. It was his 301st points-scoring race weekend however, as he scored points in the Sprint at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, without scoring points in the Grand Prix itself.
Completing all 52 laps of the 2024 British Grand Prix, Hamilton joined Rubens Barrichello, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso in the group of drivers who’ve raced more than 1,000 Grand Prix laps at Silverstone.
Both George Russell and Lando Norris led more laps of the 2024 British Grand Prix than eventual winner Lewis Hamilton. Since 2014, it is only the second time that the winner of the race at Silverstone did not lead the most laps. It last happened in 2021, a race which was also won by Hamilton.
This is the first time that the winner of the race has not led the most laps of the race at two successive Grands Prix since the 2021 Saudi Arabian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
With Hamilton, Russell, Norris and Oscar Piastri all leading a lap, this was the first time since the 2023 United States Grand Prix that as many as four different drivers have led a lap of a Grand Prix.
Hamilton won the 2024 British Grand Prix by 1.465 seconds – the smallest winning margin at Silverstone since the 2013 British Grand Prix.
ON THE PODIUM
Max Verstappen finished as runner-up at the 2024 British Grand Prix, recording the 107th top three finish of his career. That moved him clear of Alain Prost and Fernando Alonso to a clear fourth place on F1’s all-time podium list.

Russell made this the second time in 2024 that the polesitter has retired. Max Verstappen did so at the Australian Grand Prix. It’s the first retirement for a polesitter at Silverstone since 2021.
Russell became the first polesitter to lead at the end of Lap 1 at Silverstone since Valtteri Bottas at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020.
