2024 Dutch Grand Prix: Race Statistics, Facts and Trivia

Norris takes the second win of his career, McLaren win at Zandvoort for the first time in exactly 39 years and Leclerc moves up the list of most podium finishes with Ferrari. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.

NORRIS WINS THE 2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris secured the second victory of his Formula 1 career at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. He secured the full 26 points for his victory, having set the fastest lap on the final lap of the race.

Norris won the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix by 22.896 seconds – the largest winning margin of the season to date, beating Max Verstappen’s 22.457 second victory margin at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. This was the largest winning margin at Zandvoort since 1969.

This was McLaren’s first Dutch Grand Prix victory in exactly 39 years. Norris’ win at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix came 39 years to the day since Niki Lauda secured his final F1 victory with McLaren at Zandvoort in 1985.

This was McLaren’s fourth win in total at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris is the first McLaren driver to win from pole position since Lewis Hamilton did so at the 2012 Italian Grand Prix.

Polesitter Norris was overtaken by Max Verstappen before the pair reached Turn 1. On all four occasions that he has started from pole position, Norris has failed to lead at the end of Lap 1.

Norris became the first polesitter to win since Charles Leclerc took victory at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix back in May.

Norris’ drive to victory saw him voted Driver of the Day for the 17th time in his career.

This was Norris’ first top six finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris’ victory was the second at Zandvoort for a Mercedes-powered car. The last was in 1955, when Juan Manuel Fangio won the Dutch Grand Prix with Mercedes.

ON THE PODIUM

For the first time in his career, Max Verstappen failed to win his home Grand Prix. Verstappen recorded his second podium finish in the last five races. He also finished as runner-up at the British Grand Prix.

Verstappen became only the sixth driver to have taken as many as four podium finishes at Zandvoort.

Finishing second on his 200th start, Verstappen becomes only the second World Champion in the 2000s – after Kimi Raikkonen – who has failed to win on his 200th appearance.

This was the first time since the Monaco Grand Prix that Verstappen finished in the same position as he started. Verstappen has finished where he started on every Dutch Grand Prix appearance to date.

Charles Leclerc recorded his 37th podium finish with Ferrari at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. He overtook Felipe Massa as the driver who has secured the sixth-most top three finishes with Ferrari in Formula 1.

Leclerc became the 24th different driver to have recorded multiple podium finishes at the Dutch Grand Prix. He and Verstappen are the only current drivers to have done so.

This was Leclerc’s second consecutive podium finish, having also finished third in the Belgian Grand Prix.

IN THE POINTS

Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso all maintained their 100% points finishing rates at the Dutch Grand Prix, having now scored at all of the last four Zandvoort races.

Oscar Piastri’s fourth place finish marked his first non-podium finish since the British Grand Prix.

Piastri led five laps of the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix – making this the fifth consecutive race in which he has led at least one lap. It is the 88th occasion on which a driver has led laps in five consecutive Grands Prix.

With Charles Leclerc finishing on the podium and Carlos Sainz finishing fifth, this was the first time that both Ferrari drivers finished in the top five at Zandvoort since the team secured a 1-2 finish in the 1983 Dutch Grand Prix.

Having also finished fifth last year, Sainz was the only driver to record the same result in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix as he did in the 2023 race.

Sergio Perez finished sixth in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. This was his first top six finish since finishing fourth in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix.

With George Russell seventh and Lewis Hamilton eighth, the Dutch Grand Prix marked the first time in Mercedes’ five Dutch Grand Prix appearances that none of their drivers finished in the top six positions.

Lewis Hamilton’s eighth place in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix marked his worst result since finishing ninth in the Chinese Grand Prix, as well as his worst result to date at Zandvoort.

Hamilton was the only driver who started outside of the top ten to score a point at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. This was only the second time – after the Australian Grand Prix – that the driver starting 14th scored a point in 2024. It was the first time since 1970 that the driver starting 14th scored a point in the Dutch Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly secured a ninth place finish for Alpine in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, equalling his and his team’s best result of the 2024 season to date. This was the team’s fourth ninth place finish of the season, with Gasly having recorded three of those results.

For the first time in his career, Zhou Guanyu finished a Grand Prix in 20th position.
