McLaren hope to achieve the fourth longest podium streak in their history, Leclerc equals Vettel’s number of Ferrari starts and Hamilton could reach 100,000km raced in Formula 1. Here are the milestones and the records which could be broken at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix!
THE 2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX MILESTONES
The 2024 Italian Grand Prix will be the 1,117th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.
This will be the 107th time that Formula 1 has raced in Italy. The 2024 Italian Grand Prix will mark the 94th Italian Grand Prix since the event was first held in 1921 and the 75th time that the event has been held as a round of the World Championship. This will be the 74th Formula 1 race held at Monza.
Franco Colapinto will make his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, taking Logan Sargeant’s seat.
Colapinto is the first Argentine driver to race in F1 since Gaston Mazzacane at the 2001 San Marino Grand Prix
Colapinto will be the first driver to start a race in car number 43 since Nigel Mansell in the 1980 Dutch Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc will make his 118th start with Ferrari this weekend, equalling Sebastian Vettel as the driver to have made the fourth most starts with the team in Formula 1 history. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz will make his 80th start with Ferrari, moving him ahead of Jean Alesi and equalling Michele Alboreto as the driver to have made the ninth most starts with Ferrari in Formula 1.
Kevin Magnussen will make his 139th start with Haas at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. That will see him equal Felipe Massa for sixth in the list of most starts with a single constructor. Massa started 139 races with Ferrari between 2006 and 2013.
Yuki Tsunoda is set to make his 82nd start in car number 22 at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. He’ll overtake Andrea de Cesaris as the driver who has started the most Grands Prix in car number 22.
In its history on the Formula 1 calendar, races at Monza have only previously been held between September 2 and September 16. With the 2024 Italian Grand Prix taking place on September 1, this is the earliest date in the year on which a Formula 1 race at Monza has been held.
The 2024 Italian Grand Prix will be the third Formula 1 race to take place on September 1, after the 2002 and 2019 Belgian Grands Prix.
THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN
A podium finish for Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri would make the 2024 Italian Grand Prix the 12th consecutive race at which a McLaren driver has finished in the top three. It would be only the fourth time in the team’s history that they’ve recorded podium results at 12 successive races and would be the first time they have done so since securing 13 podiums in a row between the 2011 German Grand Prix and the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix.
If he reaches Lap 51 of the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton will become the second driver – after Fernando Alonso – to have raced 100,000km in Grands Prix during his Formula 1 career.
If Max Verstappen wins the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, Italy will become the second country – after the United States – in which he has taken as many as six victories.
A Fastest Lap for Lewis Hamilton would see him become the first driver to have taken eight Fastest Laps at a single circuit.
A victory for Ferrari at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix would be their 20th win at Monza. It would make them the first team to take 20 victories at a single circuit.
A pole position for Ferrari at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix would see them extend the record for the most poles at a single circuit to 24.
A Fastest Lap for a Ferrari-powered car would see Ferrari extend the record for most Fastest Laps for an engine manufacturer at a single circuit to 20. Meanwhile, a Fastest Lap for a Mercedes-powered car would see Mercedes equal Ferrari’s record of most Fastest Laps at a single circuit.
It is mathematically possible for Red Bull to lose the lead of the Constructors’ Championship at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, if McLaren out-score them by at least 31 points. Should they do so, it would become the first race after which Red Bull have not led the Constructors’ Championship since the 2022 Miami Grand Prix.
A 1-2 finish for McLaren would mark the 50th 1-2 result in the team’s history. They would be only the third team – after Ferrari and Mercedes – to record 50 1-2 finishes.
If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.
If Max Verstappen does not take pole position but does win the Grand Prix, he would become the fourth driver – after Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost – to have won 30 Grands Prix without starting from the front of the grid.
At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.
A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.
If Charles Leclerc takes pole position and fails to win, it would be the 20th time that he has done so in his Formula 1 career. That would see him overtake Nelson Piquet for fifth in the list of most failed pole to win conversions.
If Nico Hulkenberg scores more than 22 points this weekend, Germany will become the second nation – after Britain – to have scored 8,000 points in Formula 1.
If Lewis Hamilton or George Russell reach Q3 at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, the Brackley-based team will reach 600 Q3 appearances (across their Honda, Brawn GP and Mercedes guises) since the knockout qualifying system was introduced in 2006.
THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK
Lewis Hamilton currently shares the record for most Italian Grand Prix victories with Michael Schumacher. A win for Hamilton at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix would be a record-breaking fifth Monza victory.
Like victories, Lewis Hamilton is also tied with Michael Schumacher for the most Italian Grand Prix podium finishes. Hamilton will be aiming to become the first driver to finish in the top three at Monza on nine occasions this weekend.
Max Verstappen has won the Italian Grand Prix in each of the last two seasons. Only one driver has won at Monza in three consecutive years: Juan Manuel Fangio, in 1953, 1954 and 1955. A win for Verstappen at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix would see him equal Fangio’s consecutive win record.
Lewis Hamilton has scored points at the Italian Grand Prix on 14 occasions and is currently tied with Michael Schumacher for the most points-scoring appearances at Monza. A top ten finish for Hamilton this weekend would see him become the first driver to score points 15 times at the track – and he would equal Schumacher’s record of 15 top ten finishes at the track.
2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS
Having taken pole in the last two seasons, pole position for Ferrari would mark the first time that the Italian team has taken pole at three consecutive Monza races.
If Lewis Hamilton reaches Q3 at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, he will equal Michael Schumacher for the most all-time top ten qualifications at Monza. Schumacher qualified in the top ten at Monza on 16 occasions during his career.
Alex Albon and Oscar Piastri will be hoping to hold on to their 100% Q3 appearance records at Monza. Sebastien Bourdais is the only other driver who reached Q3 on every appearance at Monza.
A Q2 exit for Fernando Alonso or Nico Hulkenberg at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix would see them equal Daniil Kvyat’s record of five Q2 eliminations at Monza.
If Kevin Magnussen is out in Q1, he will become the first driver to record five Q1 exits at the Italian Grand Prix.
LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR ALONSO?
A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.
A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.

If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.
Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.
