2024 Singapore Grand Prix: Milestones and F1 Records Which Could Be Broken

Verstappen hopes to take victory on the only track on the calendar he’s never won at, Hamilton equals Raikkonen in the all-time starts list and Stroll could equal Herbert at the top of the list of most races without a fastest lap. Here are the milestones and the records which could be broken at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix!

THE 2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX MILESTONES

The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix will be the 1,119th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.

This will be the 15th time that Formula 1 has raced in Singapore. It will be the 15th Singapore Grand Prix held at Marina Bay Street Circuit since the circuit joined the calendar in 2008.

The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix will be the 23rd Singapore Grand Prix since the event was first held – as a non-championship race – in 1966.

Lewis Hamilton makes his 350th Formula 1 start at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, equalling Kimi Raikkonen for second on the list of most Grand Prix appearances.

Carlos Sainz becomes the 24th driver to make 200 Grand Prix starts at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix marks Max Verstappen’s 180th race with Red Bull. That sees him equal Michael Schumacher for second place on the list of drivers who’ve made the most starts with a single constructor during their Formula 1 career. Schumacher started 180 races with Ferrari between 1996 and 2006.

Returning after his one-race ban, Kevin Magnussen will make his 140th start with Haas at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. That will see him overtake Felipe Massa for sixth in the list of most starts with a single constructor. Massa started 139 races with Ferrari between 2006 and 2013.

Nico Hulkenberg’s presence on the grid makes the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix the 900th Grand Prix which a German driver has started in World Championship history.

The 53rd lap of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix will be the 900th racing lap at the track since the first race here in 2008.

This will be the seventh Formula 1 race to take place on September 22. The Singapore Grand Prix has previously taken place on this date in 2013 and 2019.

THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN

Marina Bay Street Circuit is the only venue on the 2024 F1 calendar at which Max Verstappen has not previously taken victory. A win at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would see Verstappen become only the second driver, after Lewis Hamilton, to have won at as many as 27 different circuits.

Max Verstappen has never previously taken pole position at Marina Bay Street Circuit. It is one of only three tracks on the current calendar at which he has never previously taken pole, the others being Baku City Circuit and Las Vegas Strip Circuit. A pole at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would make Marina Bay the 23rd different track at which he has taken pole position. He would move ahead of Alain Prost and equal Sebastian Vettel for second on the list of most circuits at which a driver has taken pole in Formula 1.

A podium finish for Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri would make the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix the 14th consecutive race at which a McLaren driver has finished in the top three. It would be only the second time in the team’s history that they’ve recorded podium results at 14 successive races and would be the team’s longest podium streak since finishing in the top three at 19 successive races between the 2007 Australian Grand Prix and the 2008 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Lando Norris has set the fastest lap in all of the last three races. Another fastest lap for Norris at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would make this the seventh time that a driver has set the fastest lap at four races in a row. The last driver to do so was Kimi Raikkonen, between the 2008 Spanish and British Grands Prix.

Charles Leclerc has finished on the podium in all of the last four races. Should he do so again at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, he would equal the longest podium streak of his career. He last finished on the podium at five races in a row between the 2022 Dutch and United States Grands Prix.

Lance Stroll makes his 161st Grand Prix start at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. If he fails to set the fastest lap of the race, he’ll equal Johnny Herbert at the top of the list of drivers who’ve made the most F1 starts without ever setting the fastest lap in a race.

If Red Bull slip to third in the Constructors’ Championship, it would be the first time that the team has been outside of the top two in the standings since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix.

A 1-2 finish for McLaren would mark the 50th 1-2 result in the team’s history. They would be only the third team – after Ferrari and Mercedes – to record 50 1-2 finishes.

If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.

If Max Verstappen does not take pole position but does win the Grand Prix, he would become the fourth driver – after Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost – to have won 30 Grands Prix without starting from the front of the grid.

At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.

A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.

If Nico Hulkenberg scores more than 22 points this weekend, Germany will become the second nation – after Britain – to have scored 8,000 points in Formula 1.

If both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez progress to Q3 at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull reach 600 Q3 appearances. They will be the third team to do so, after Ferrari (at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) and Mercedes (including their previous Honda and Brawn GP guises, at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix).

Should Fernando Alonso reach Q3 this weekend, it will be his 228th Q3 appearance. That will see him equal Sebastian Vettel for second on the list of drivers who’ve made the most Q3 appearances.

A Q1 exit this weekend for Lance Stroll would see him equal Marcus Ericsson as the driver who has recorded the second most Q1 exits in Formula 1. It would be his 71st Q1 elimination.

THE SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK

Victory for Lewis Hamilton at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would see him equal Sebastian Vettel’s record of five wins at F1’s original night race.

Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari are all tied for the most wins at Marina Bay Street Circuit, each with four victories. A win for any of those three teams at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would see them set a new outright record.

Mercedes have powered more victories at the Singapore Grand Prix than any other engine manufacturer, with five wins. Renault or Ferrari could equal the record tally this weekend.

A top three finish for Lewis Hamilton at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would see him equal Sebastian Vettel as the driver with the most podium finishes in Singapore. It would be Hamilton’s eighth top three result at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

A top ten finish for Lewis Hamilton would be his 12th points-scoring appearance in Singapore and would see him equal Sebastian Vettel for the most points-scoring races at the track. It would also make him level with Vettel on most overall finishes at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Sebastian Vettel leads the way for most laps led in Singapore, with 252. Lewis Hamilton will surpass that figure if he leads four laps of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

In terms of teams, Ferrari (256), Mercedes (232) or Red Bull (228) could walk away from the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix as the team who’ve led the most laps overall at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most Fastest Laps at the Singapore Grand Prix. He could extend the record to four this weekend, or his current tally could be equalled by Daniel Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso or Kevin Magnussen.

Mercedes have four Fastest Laps in Singapore. Their record number could be equalled by Red Bull during the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

If he completes 45 laps of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton will become the first driver to have raced 800 laps at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

A victory for a driver other than Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez or Carlos Sainz would make them the fifth different driver to have won in the last five races at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

German drivers currently hold the record for most Singapore Grand Prix podium finishes, with 11. That number could be equalled or overtaken this weekend by British drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo has finished as runner-up at the Singapore Grand Prix on more occasions than any other driver, with three second place finishes. That number could be equalled this weekend by Charles Leclerc. Similarly, Lewis Hamilton’s record of three third place finishes at the event could be equalled by Fernando Alonso.

Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be hoping to maintain their 100% points-scoring rates at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Yuki Tsunoda is yet to finish a race at Marina Bay Street Circuit. If he fails to finish the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, he will become the first driver to retire from all of his first three appearances at the track. He would also equal the record for most DNFs at the track, which is currently shared between ten drivers, and equal Jenson Button and Nico Hulkenberg’s shared record for the most consecutive retirements here.

A non-finish for Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton or Nico Hulkenberg would make them the first driver to record as many as four retirements at the Singapore Grand Prix.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS

Lewis Hamilton is currently tied with Sebastian Vettel for the most pole positions at the Singapore Grand Prix. A pole for Hamilton this weekend would be a record-breaking fifth at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Pole position for Carlos Sainz would make him only the second driver, after team-mate Charles Leclerc, to secure consecutive pole positions at the Singapore Grand Prix.

A pole position for a Ferrari driver at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix would see Ferrari extend their record for consecutive team poles at Marina Bay Street Circuit to four.

If he qualifies in the top two, Lewis Hamilton will become the first driver to start the Singapore Grand Prix from the front row of the grid seven times. He’s currently tied with Sebastian Vettel for the most front row starts at the track.

Germany currently holds the record for most pole positions in Singapore, with five. Britain could equal that number in qualifying for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

Both Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris will be looking to maintain their 100% Q3 appearance rates at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll could extend his record for most Q1 exits at Marina Bay Street Circuit in qualifying for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix to four. His current record could be equalled by Kevin Magnussen.

LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR ALONSO?

A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would make him the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to record podium finishes in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.

Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.
