2024 Singapore Grand Prix: Race Statistics, Facts and Trivia

Norris leads from start to finish for the first time, Hulkenberg equals Haas’ best-ever Singapore result and Ricciardo bids farewell with a fastest lap. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

NORRIS WINS THE 2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris claimed the third victory of his Formula 1 career at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

This was McLaren’s second Singapore Grand Prix victory and their first since Lewis Hamilton won with the team in 2009.

Norris became the fifth different winner of the Singapore Grand Prix in the last five years that it has been held. Overall, the is the seventh different driver to have won at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Norris won the race by 20.945 seconds – the second largest winning margin of the 2024 season and the second largest winning margin at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Sebastian Vettel won by 32.627 seconds in 2013.

This was the 24th podium finish of Norris’ career, seeing him equal Stirling Moss, John Surtees and Alan Jones for 44th on the all-time podium list.

The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix was the sixth pole position of Norris’ career and marked the first time that he led at the end of Lap 1 having started from the front of the grid.

Norris became the 60th driver to have led every single lap in a Grand Prix in World Championship history.

Norris’ win saw Britain equal Germany as the nation to have had the most top three finishes at the Singapore Grand Prix.

ON THE PODIUM

Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri joined Lando Norris on the podium at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. Piastri became the 16th driver to finish in the top three at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Norris became the 12th to take multiple podium results here and Verstappen became the fifth driver to have taken as many as three top three finishes at the track.

Marina Bay Street Circuit remains the only track on the current Formula 1 calendar at which Verstappen has never won. Verstappen equalled his best result to date at the venue, having last finished as runner-up in 2018.

This was Verstappen’s third podium finish in the eight races since his last win. All three of those podium finishes have been second place results.

With both Norris and Piastri finishing on the podium at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren made this the 14th consecutive race in which they finished in the top three. That makes this the second longest podium streak in the team’s history. Their only longer streak came at the 19 races between the 2007 Australian and 2008 Malaysian Grands Prix.

This was the first time McLaren have recorded a double podium result at the Singapore Grand Prix.

This was Piastri’s eighth consecutive top four finish and his sixth podium result in the last eight races.

After the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren lead the Constructors’ Championship by 41 points. It is their largest points lead in the championship since the end of the 1989 season, albeit with a different points system.

IN THE POINTS

George Russell finished the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix fourth, recording consecutive top four results for the first time since the Spanish and Austrian Grands Prix.

This was the first time Russell scored a point in Singapore and only the second time – after his 14th place finish in 2022 – that he has crossed the finish line.

Finishing fifth, Charles Leclerc maintained his 100% points-scoring rate at the Singapore Grand Prix. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri also kept their 100% points-scoring rates at the event.

This was the first time since the Hungarian Grand Prix that Leclerc did not finish on the podium, ending a streak of four consecutive podium results.

With Leclerc fifth and Carlos Sainz seventh, this was the first Singapore Grand Prix in which neither Ferrari driver finished on the podium since 2017.

Lewis Hamilton finished sixth in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, scoring points at Marina Bay Street Circuit for the 12th time in his career. He equalled Sebastian Vettel as the driver who has picked up points on the most occasions at the track.

During the race, Hamilton became the first driver to have raced 800 Grand Prix laps at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Finishing eighth, Fernando Alonso scored a point at the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time since 2018.

Nico Hulkenberg finished ninth in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, scoring his first points in a Grand Prix since finishing sixth in the British Grand Prix.

Ninth place equalled Haas’ best ever result at the Singapore Grand Prix. Romain Grosjean finished ninth with the team here in 2017.

Sergio Perez picked up the final point, finishing in tenth place. He has not finished in the top five in any of the last 12 races. This was the first time Perez finished in a better position than where he started since the Hungarian Grand Prix.

From 13th on the grid, Perez was the only driver who started outside of the top ten to score a point in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

THE OTHER FINISHERS

Franco Colapinto just missed out on points on his third Formula 1 appearance, finishing in 11th place. He is yet to finish a Grand Prix outside of the top 12 positions.

With 12th place, Yuki Tsunoda ended a two-race streak of retirements in the 2024 season and crossed the finish line in Singapore for the first time in his three appearances at the event.

Finishing 13th, Esteban Ocon crossed the finish line at the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time since 2018. 2018 remains the only time he has scored a point at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

On what is expected to have been his final Formula 1 appearance, Daniel Ricciardo picked up the fastest lap at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. This was the 17th fastest lap of his career – his first since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

2024 is the third time that Ricciardo has set the fastest lap at the Singapore Grand Prix. He equalled Lewis Hamilton for the most fastest laps at the event.

Ricciardo was voted Driver of the Day for the 11th time in his career. It’s the first time he has won the accolade since the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix.

This was the first time since 2018 that the Red Bull junior team failed to score any points at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll made his 161st start at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix and finished the race without setting the fastest lap. He therefore equalled Johnny Herbert at the top of the list of most starts without a fastest lap to his name.

Stroll maintained his record of gaining at least three positions during the race on each occasion that he has started the Singapore Grand Prix.

Valtteri Bottas finished 16th for the third race weekend in a row.

With 17th place, Pierre Gasly failed to score a point in Singapore for the first time since his first appearance at the track in 2017.

THE RETIREES

Alex Albon was the first driver to retire from the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. This marked the Williams driver’s first DNF since the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix and marked the second time, after 2022, that he retired in Singapore.

Kevin Magnussen retired in the closing stages of the race. This was his second DNF of the season – his first since crashing out on the opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix.

This was Magnussen’s first retirement in Singapore since 2017, as well as Haas’ first retirement in Singapore since then.

For the first time in Singapore Grand Prix history, the 2024 race featured no Safety Car or Virtual Safety Car periods. This was the ninth consecutive race in 2024 not to feature a full Safety Car period.
