THE 2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX MILESTONES
The 2024 United States Grand Prix will be the 1,120th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.
The 2024 United States Grand Prix will be the 53rd United States Grand Prix since the event was first held in 1908 and the 45th time that the event has been held as a round of the World Championship.
This will be the 12th Formula 1 race held at Circuit of The Americas since the Texas venue joined the calendar in 2012.
The 2024 United States Grand Prix will be the 78th time that Formula 1 has raced in the United States.
Lewis Hamilton will make his 351st Grand Prix start at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. That sees him overtake Kimi Raikkonen for second on the list of of most Grands Prix started by a driver in F1 history.
At the 2024 United States Grand Prix, Alex Albon will become the 80th driver to have made 100 Grand Prix starts.
Max Verstappen makes hs 181st start with Red Bull at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. That sees him overtake Michael Schumacher for second on the list of most F1 starts with a single constructor.
Alex Albon will make his 62nd start with Williams at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. That sees him move ahead of Nicholas Latifi and equal Keke Rosberg for ninth on the list of drivers who’ve made the most starts with Williams in the team’s Formula 1 history.
Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez become the first drivers to make 12 appearances at COTA having never missed a race at the track since it joined the F1 calendar in 2012. This will be the first ever F1 race at COTA to not feature Daniel Ricciardo on the grid.
COTA will host the fourth of this year’s six F1 Sprint events over the 2024 United States Grand Prix weekend.
The 2024 United States Grand Prix is the second Formula 1 race to take place on October 20. The 1991 Japanese Grand Prix is the only other race which has taken place on this date. October 20 is the earliest date in the year on which the United States Grand Prix has been held during its tenure at COTA.
THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN
A win for Max Verstappen at the 2024 United States Grand Prix would make this only the 12th occasion on which a driver has taken four successive wins at a single circuit in Formula 1.
Victory for Max Verstappen in the 2024 United States Grand Prix would be his seventh win in total in the United States. It would make the United States the first country in which he has won seven times and would see him overtake Lewis Hamilton as the driver who has won in the country on the most occasions.
Lance Stroll makes his 162nd Grand Prix start at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. If he fails to set the fastest lap of the race, he’ll overtake Johnny Herbert at the top of the list of drivers who’ve made the most F1 starts without ever setting the fastest lap in a race.
If Red Bull slip to third in the Constructors’ Championship, it would be the first time that the team has been outside of the top two in the standings since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix.
If Lewis Hamilton reaches the 11th lap of the 2024 United States Grand Prix, he will become the second driver, after Fernando Alonso, to have raced 20,000 Grand Prix laps in his Formula 1 career.
Should a British driver take pole position, Britain will become the first nation to record 300 pole positions in Formula 1.
If any British driver leads the race from start to finish, this will become the 100th Grand Prix led from start to end by a British driver.
If Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez score a point over the 2024 United States Grand Prix weekend, this would be Red Bull’s 62nd consecutive points-scoring race. That would see them equal the third longest scoring streak for a team in Formula 1.
A 1-2 finish for McLaren would mark the 50th 1-2 result in the team’s history. They would be only the third team – after Ferrari and Mercedes – to record 50 1-2 finishes.
If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.
If Max Verstappen does not take pole position but does win the Grand Prix, he would become the fourth driver – after Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Alain Prost – to have won 30 Grands Prix without starting from the front of the grid.
At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.
A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.
If Nico Hulkenberg scores more than 20 points this weekend, Germany will become the second nation – after Britain – to have scored 8,000 points in Formula 1.
If either Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez progress to Q3 at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, Red Bull will reach 600 Q3 appearances. They will be the third team to do so, after Ferrari (at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) and Mercedes (including their previous Honda and Brawn GP guises, at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix).
Fernando Alonso could record his 229th Q3 appearance this weekend. That would see him overtake Sebastian Vettel for second on the list of drivers who’ve made the most Q3 appearances.
A Q1 exit this weekend for Lance Stroll would see him overtake Marcus Ericsson as the driver who has recorded the second most Q1 exits in Formula 1. It would be his 71st Q1 elimination.
THE UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK
Victory for Max Verstappen at the 2024 United States Grand Prix would make him the first driver to record four consecutive wins at COTA.
Mercedes’ record of five victories at Circuit of The Americas could be equalled at the 2024 United States Grand Prix by Red Bull.
If either Red Bull driver wins the 2024 United States Grand Prix, Red Bull would equal Mercedes’ record for the most successive team wins at COTA. Mercedes won four races in a row in Texas between 2014 and 2017.
Mercedes have had the most podiums of any team at COTA, with 12. Red Bull, currently with 11 top three finishes, could equal or overtake the record this weekend.
Mercedes have taken the most Fastest Laps of any team at Circuit of The Americas, with four. That record could be equalled at the 2024 United States Grand Prix by Red Bull or Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton has completed all 616 Grand Prix laps to date since COTA joined the F1 calendar in 2012. He’ll be hoping to maintain that uninterrupted run in the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
Ford Cosworth have the most victories of any engine manufacturer at the United States Grand Prix, with 11. That record could be equalled this weekend by Ferrari.
In the United States Grand Prix’s history on the F1 calendar, Michael Schumacher has led the most laps, having spent 338 laps in the lead at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Lewis Hamilton has led 321 laps at the United States Grand Prix since first partaking in the event in 2007. If he leads 18 laps of the 2024 United States Grand Prix, he’ll set a new record for the most laps led at the event.
Lewis Hamilton could become the first driver to finish as runner-up at COTA on four occasions.
Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most points-scoring appearances at COTA, with ten. He could set a new outright record at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, or his existing record could be equalled by Sergio Perez.
Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton are tied for most classified finishes at COTA. Either driver could become the first to finish the COTA race 11 times at the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda and Logan Sargeant will all be hoping to maintain their 100% points-finishing records at COTA with top ten finishes in the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri will be looking to avoid becoming only the second driver, after Adrian Sutil, to retire from both of his first two Grand Prix appearances at COTA.
Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso are currently tied for the most retirements at COTA, with four apiece. Either driver could set a new outright record in the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS
Lewis Hamilton is currently tied with Michael Schumacher for the most pole positions at the United States Grand Prix. Pole for Hamilton this weekend would be a record-breaking fifth at the event.
A pole position for someone other than Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz or Charles Leclerc would make them the sixth consecutive different polesitter at the United States Grand Prix, extending the record for the most successive different polesitters at COTA.
Germany’s record of four pole positions at COTA could be equalled at the 2024 United States Grand Prix by Britain.
Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be hoping to maintain their 100% Q3 appearance records at the United States Grand Prix.
A Q2 exit for Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg or Fernando Alonso would see them equal Daniil Kvyat’s record of four Q2 exits at COTA.
Lance Stroll currently holds the record for most Q1 exits at COTA, with four. His record could be equalled in qualifying for the 2024 United States Grand Prix by Kevin Magnussen.
LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR ALONSO?
A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.
A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.
A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would make him the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to record podium finishes in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.
If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.
Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.
