Piastri finishes 30 races in a row, Hamilton becomes the 13th driver to record three disqualifications and Albon scores points on his birthday. Here’s a statistic from each driver’s 2025 Chinese Grand Prix weekend!
Max VERSTAPPEN
Max Verstappen qualified fourth for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, marking the third race in a row at which Max Verstappen did not qualify on the front row of the grid. This was the first time Verstappen failed to qualify on the front row at three consecutive races since the 2020 Eifel, Portuguese and Emilia Romagna Grands Prix.
Finishing fourth on Sunday, Verstappen made this the 23rd consecutive Grand Prix in which he scored points, equalling the sixth-longest points-scoring streak in F1 history.
Liam LAWSON
Setting the slowest time of the 20 drivers, Liam Lawson exited in Q1 for a second consecutive race weekend at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. This was the first time that Lawson qualified last since making his debut at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix. Lawson recorded Red Bull’s fourth Q1 exit at the Chinese Grand Prix – the team’s first here since 2017.
Lawson finished 12th on Sunday – his best result since finishing ninth in the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Lawson became the first Red Bull driver to fail to score a point at the Chinese Grand Prix since Daniil Kvyat retired from the race in 2015.
Lando NORRIS
Lando Norris set the third fastest time in Q3 at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix and was out-qualified by his team-mate for the first time since the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Despite encountering brake issues late on in the race, Lando Norris held on to finish as runner-up to his team-mate in the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. He did so having been out-qualified by Oscar Piastri for the first time since the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
This was the second year in a row that Norris finished second in the Chinese Grand Prix. Norris recorded three consecutive podium finishes for the first time since the 2024 Chinese, Miami and Emilia Romagna Grands Prix.
Oscar PIASTRI
Oscar Piastri secured the first pole position of his Formula 1 career at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix and went on to win the race, becoming only the second driver in the last 13 seasons – after Carlos Sainz – to convert his maiden pole into a win.
He became the 107th different driver to take pole position at a round of the World Championship and the first Australian to take pole position since Daniel Ricciardo at the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix.
This was Piastri’s first pole position having already secured seven front row starts. Piastri is the sixth driver to make as many as seven front row appearances before his first pole position, after Mike Hawthorn (10), Stirling Moss (7), Denny Hulme (19), Jackie Stewart (12) and Max Verstappen (7). In addition, Richie Ginther (8), Peter Collins (8) and Jean Behra (10) made more front row starts without ever taking pole, while Bruce McLaren made seven front row starts without ever taking pole.
Piastri recorded his third Grand Prix win, becoming the 70th driver to record as many as three wins in Formula 1. He became the 11th different driver to win at Shanghai International Circuit. With his win, Piastri made the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix the 30th consecutive Grand Prix which he finished. He became the seventh driver to record as many as 30 finishes in a row.
Piastri maintained his 100% points-finishing record at the Chinese Grand Prix and became the eighth driver – after Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean and Vitaly Petrov – to score points on both of his first two appearances at Shanghai International Circuit. This was Piastri’s first top seven result in the Chinese Grand Prix.
Lewis HAMILTON
Lewis Hamilton secured his first race win with Ferrari over the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix weekend, winning the Sprint race from pole position.
In Grand Prix qualifying, Hamilton became the first driver to record as many as 13 top ten qualifications at the Chinese Grand Prix, moving clear of Fernando Alonso at the top of the list. Hamilton qualified in fifth place, marking his first top five qualification since setting the third fastest time in qualifying for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. This was also the first time since then that Hamilton out-qualified his team-mate.
Hamilton was disqualified from the Grand Prix as a result of excessive plank wear. He recorded the third disqualification of his career, after the 2009 Australian Grand Prix and the 2023 United States Grand Prix. He became the 13th driver to record as many as three DSQs in his F1 career.
Charles LECLERC
With his car found to be underweight following post-race checks at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc became the 30th driver to record multiple disqualifications in Formula 1. Both he and team-mate Lewis Hamilton were disqualified from the race. For both, it was their first DSQ since the 2023 United States Grand Prix.
Ferrari became the first team to see both of their drivers disqualified from the same Grand Prix since Renault at the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix. This was the first Chinese Grand Prix since 2009 in which Ferrari did not score a point and the first race in Formula 1 history from which both Ferrari drivers were disqualified. The team had recorded only 10 DSQs in their history prior to the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix.
George RUSSELL
For the second race in a row, George Russell finished third in the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. His podium result marked Mercedes’ 300th top three finish in F1. Mercedes became the fourth team to record as many as 300 podium finishes, after Ferrari at the 1985 German Grand Prix, McLaren at the 1999 Hungarian Grand Prix and Williams at the 2014 German Grand Prix.
This was the first time Russell recorded consecutive podium finishes since the 2022 Dutch and Italian Grands Prix. It was Russell’s first top five result at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Russell finished on the podium having set the second fastest lap time in qualifying. His front row qualification marked the first time Russell qualified in the top seven at Shanghai International Circuit.
Kimi ANTONELLI
With sixth place in the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli finished in the top six for a second consecutive race. He became only the tenth driver in history to record top six finishes in both of his first two Grand Prix appearances. Antonelli became the first driver to score in both of his first Grand Prix appearances since Ollie Bearman in 2024 and the first to finish in the top six in both of his first two races since Lewis Hamilton in 2007. Antonelli was voted Driver Of The Day for the first time in his career.
Fernando ALONSO
Fernando Alonso qualified in 13th place for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. Having also exited in Q2 at the Australian Grand Prix, this was the first time Alonso qualified outside of the top ten at two consecutive races since the 2024 Spanish and Austrian Grands Prix. Alonso’s third place in qualifying for the 2024 race remains the only time he has qualified in the top ten at the Chinese Grand Prix since 2014.
On Sunday, Alonso was the only driver to retire from the race. He retired with brake issues in the early stages. Alonso has now retired from the first two races of the season. It’s his worst start to a year since 2017, when he also retired from the first two races. This was Alonso’s second retirement at the Chinese Grand Prix – his first since 2017. This was the first time Alonso recorded consecutive DNFs since the 2023 United States and Mexico City Grands Prix, as well as the first time the Silverstone-based team recorded a retirement in China since 2015, when Nico Hulkenberg failed to finish with Force India.
Lance STROLL
Lance Stroll recorded a fourth consecutive Q2 exit at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. He remains yet to out-qualify a team-mate in any of his five appearances at the Chinese Grand Prix.
In the race, Stroll scored points for the second weekend in a row, finishing ninth. This was the first time he scored at successive races since the 2024 British and Hungarian Grands Prix – which was also the last time he scored any points before the start of the 2025 season. It was the first time in his five appearances at the Chinese Grand Prix that Stroll scored a point. His previous best result here was 12th, in 2019.
Pierre GASLY
Pierre Gasly recorded his first Q1 exit since the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix and his first Q1 exit at the Chinese Grand Prix since 2018. This was the first time Gasly out-qualified a team-mate in his four Chinese Grand Prix appearances.
As a result of his car being underweight, Gasly was disqualified from the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. This was the first DSQ of his career.
Jack DOOHAN
Jack Doohan out-qualified Pierre Gasly for the first time in Sprint Qualifying at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix but qualified behind him for the main race. With Doohan finishing 13th and Gasly being disqualified, Alpine are now the only team yet to score a point in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Doohan earned the first four penalty points of his career at the Chinese Grand Prix, receiving them as a result of incidents in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.
Esteban OCON
Esteban Ocon missed out on a place in Q3 at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, qualifying in 11th place. Nevertheless, this marked the Frenchman’s best qualifying result to date in Shanghai. It was his third successive Q2 exit at the circuit.
Ocon finished seventh on the road but two disqualifications ahead of him promoted him to fifth in the final order. His fifth place finish marked the sixth time that Haas recorded a top five finish in Formula 1. It was the first time a Haas driver has finished in the top five since Kevin Magnussen finished fifth at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. This was the first time since 2017, when he finished tenth, that Ocon scored points in the Chinese Grand Prix. It marked his best result at the track to date.
Ollie BEARMAN
Ollie Bearman and Kimi Antonelli joined Oscar Piastri as the only drivers with a 100% points-scoring rate at Shanghai International Circuit in qualifying for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. With eighth place in the race, Bearman recorded his second-best Grand Prix result to date, bettered only by his seventh place finish on debut with Ferrari at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Bearman gained nine positions from where he started – the most of any driver.
Yuki TSUNODA
With ninth place in qualifying, Yuki Tsunoda continued his 100% Q3 appearance rate in the 2025 season. He has reached Q3 at four of the last six Grand Prix weekends. Tsunoda was out-qualified by his team-mate for the first time since the 2024 Italian Grand Prix.
Tsunoda finished only 16th after picking up front wing damage during the race. He did at least move out of the group of drivers who have a 100% non-finish rate at Shanghai International Circuit.
Isack HADJAR
Isack Hadjar recorded the first Q3 appearance of his career at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. With both Hadjar and Yuki Tsunoda qualifying in the top ten, Racing Bulls recorded their first double Q3 appearance since the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. This was the team’s first double Q3 appearance in China since 2016.
Hadjar started and completed a Grand Prix for the first time in his career, finishing 11th in the final order.
Carlos SAINZ
With tenth place in the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz secured his first point as a Williams driver. This was the fifth time Sainz scored points in his seven Chinese Grand Prix appearances. With Alex Albon also scoring, this was the first time that both Williams drivers finished in the points at the Chinese Grand Prix since 2016.
Sainz had qualified 15th for the race, missing out on a place in Q2 for the first time since the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Sainz’s tenth place finish marked the first time that the driver starting 15th scored a point in Chinese Grand Prix history.
Alex ALBON
Qualifying tenth for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, Alex Albon qualified in the top ten for a second consecutive race. It was the first time since the 2024 Mexico City and Sao Paulo Grands Prix that Albon reached Q3 at successive races. This was Albon’s first Q3 appearance in China, having exited in Q1 and Q2 on his previous two appearances at Shanghai International Circuit. It was the first time since 2017 that a Williams driver reached Q3 at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Racing on his birthday, Albon finished seventh in the Chinese Grand Prix, becoming the fourth driver – after James Hunt, Stefan Johansson and Jacques Villeneuve – to score a point when racing on his 29th birthday.
Albon led a lap during the race. It was the first time he led a lap since the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, as well as the first time Williams led a lap since the 2015 British Grand Prix.
With fifth place in Australia and seventh in China, Alex Albon is having the best start to a season for a Williams driver since Felipe Massa in 2015. Albon scored points in two races in a row for the first time since the 2024 Italian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. After two races in 2025, he has now scored more points this year than he did in the entire 2024 season.
Nico HULKENBERG
Qualifying 12th, Nico Hulkenberg missed out on a place in Q3 at the Chinese Grand Prix for the first time since 2015.
Gabriel BORTOLETO
Qualifying 19th for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, Gabriel Bortoleto was out in Q1 for the first time in his career. It was the first time he was out-qualified by team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, having out-qualified him at the Australian Grand Prix and in Sprint Qualifying for the Shanghai sprint race.
Bortoleto made this the fourth consecutive Chinese Grand Prix in which the Sauber team recorded a Q1 exit, as well as the 25th time in the last 27 races that the team has seen at least one of their drivers eliminated in the first stage of qualifying.
In the race, Bortoleto finished ahead of his team-mate for the first time.
