DAY 1 TESTING REPORT
Formula 1 returned to action with pre-season testing at Bahrain International Circuit. For the third year in a row, Mercedes were the first team out on track in the Bahrain test and the rest of the teams were quick to follow rookie Kimi Antonelli out of the pit lane.
Most teams completed a full race distance in the morning session. Liam Lawson suffered the first big moment of the day, flatspotting his tyres with a spin out of Turn 2 and being lucky to keep the RB21 out of the barriers and avoid the gravel trap. His team-mate Max Verstappen also had some smaller off-track endeavours during his first laps of the afternoon session.
With plenty of work to do for the teams over the lunch hour – mostly preparing the cars for the second driver of the day to take over – there was a slow start to the afternoon. After 20 minutes passed with no action, cars began to return to the track. Isack Hadjar’s spin in his Racing Bull was the only talking point in the early stages of the afternoon, though Lando Norris’ lack of running in the McLaren caught the attention of many.
The first red flag of pre-season testing was shown with two hours of the afternoon session remaining – though it was through no fault of any driver. Simultaneously, the floodlights around the circuit dimmed and teams’ garages fell under darkness due to a power cut at the track, caused by an external substation failure.
The delay lasted for over an hour. On-track action resuming with 50 minutes remaining on the clock. The session was extended by an hour as result of the substantial red flag period.
Antonelli set the fastest time in the morning session but ended the day seventh, with Lando Norris setting the fastest time of the day overall, lapping with a 1:30.430 on the C3 tyres. Haas completed the furthest distance, while Sauber completed the fewest laps.

CAUSES OF RED FLAGS
Here is a list of every time that track action was stopped during pre-season 2025 F1 testing:
DAY 1
The first red flag of F1 testing in 2025 was shown two hours into the afternoon session on Day 1. It was the result of a power failure, which caused the circuit’s floodlights and the lights in teams’ garages to go out. The red flag period lasted just over an hour and an extra hour was added to the session to make up for the lost time.
