?? Lewis Hamilton
With victory in the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took a fourth consecutive win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, breaking Michael Schumacher’s record for most consecutive wins at the circuit. Hamilton also broke Schumacher’s record of most podium finishes in Formula 1 and became the first driver to have started from the front row 150 times in his career.
?? Valtteri Bottas
For the first time in his career, Valtteri Bottas made the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix the second consecutive races in which he finished in third place. Bottas became the sixteenth driver to have recorded 50 podium finishes in his career as well as the sixteenth driver to have set the fastest lap in a Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Bottas was the first Mercedes driver to finish third at the Spanish Grand Prix since Juan Manuel Fangio did so in 1954.
?? Sebastian Vettel
After failing to reach Q3 in Spain for the first time since 2008, Sebastian Vettel recorded his worst Spanish Grand Prix result since his retirement on his first appearance at the event with Toro Rosso in the same year. Nevertheless, finishing in seventh place, Vettel has finished in the top seven at Catalunya in every season since 2009. Scoring six points, Vettel becomes the second driver in Formula 1 history to have scored 3,000 career points.
?? Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc was the only retirement of the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, recording Ferrari’s third retirement from the event in the last four years. Leclerc is the first driver to retire having started from ninth on the grid at Catalunya since Ralf Schumacher all the way back in 1997.
?? Max Verstappen
At the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen finished on the podium for a fifth consecutive race and recorded his 36th top three finish. It puts him 24th in the all-time list, equal with Graham Hill, who secured 36 podiums over a nine year period. Verstappen becomes the ninth driver to have finished on the podium at Catalunya four times.
?? Alex Albon
Alex Albon finished eighth for the second time in three races. The 2020 Spanish Grand Prix was the thirteenth consecutive race in which Albon has been out-qualified by his team-mate – the longest active out-qualification streak on the grid. Albon is yet to set a faster time that Max Verstappen in any sector during qualifying so far this year. The closest he came to doing so was in the final sector of Silverstone at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, where his sector time was 0.026 seconds slower than Verstappen’s.
?? Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz maintained his 100% points-scoring record at the Spanish Grand Prix. He also equalled his best result at his home Grand Prix, having previously finished sixth for Toro Rosso in 2016. Sainz’s sixth place is the McLaren team’s best result at the track since both cars finished on the podium in 2011.
?? Lando Norris
At the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Lando Norris was out-raced by his team-mate for only the second time so far in the season. Despite this, Norris still picked up a point, ensuring both McLaren cars finished in the top ten at Catalunya for the first time since 2013.
?? Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo qualified outside of the top ten at the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time since he was at Toro Rosso in 2013. Thirteenth is the Australian’s worst qualifying position of the season so far.
?? Esteban Ocon
Esteban Ocon was slowest of the drivers in Q2 at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, ensuring that Renault recorded a double Q2 elimination. This is the second time in their history that the Enstone-based team have recorded a double Q1 exit. They last did so under their Lotus guise in 2015. Ocon finished thirteenth in the race. He has not scored in Barcelona since his first appearance in 2017.
?? Sergio Perez
After testing negative for COVID-19, Sergio Perez became the first driver to return after an absence of exactly two races since Daniil Kvyat at the 2017 United States Grand Prix. On his return to Formula 1 at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Perez recorded his best ever Spanish Grand Prix qualifying result with fourth place. It was also his team’s best ever qualifying result here, beating their previous best from 1995, when Rubens Barrichello qualified fifth for Jordan. With fifth place in the race, Perez recorded his second top five finish at the track, having previously finished fourth in 2017.
?? Lance Stroll
Lance Stroll qualified fifth for the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, marking the first time that he has made it out of Q1 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in his career. On Sunday, he equalled his team’s best Spanish Grand Prix result, finishing in fourth place.
?? Daniil Kvyat
At the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Daniil Kvyat recorded his best qualifying result so far in 2020 with twelfth place. His team-mate Pierre Gasly is yet to qualify below twelfth so far this season. Finishing the race in twelfth place, Kvyat failed to score at the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time since 2014. The Russian driver maintains his 100% finish record at the track.
?? Pierre Gasly
At the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly out-qualified his team-mate on pace for the first time at the Catalunya track. He qualified ahead of Brendon Hartley when both drivers were at Toro Rosso in 2018, but Hartley did not set a lap time due to a crash in Free Practice 3. Just like in 2019, Gasly reached Q3 at the Spanish Grand Prix and scored points.
?? Kimi Raikkonen
One week after breaking the record for most laps raced in F1, Kimi Raikkonen became the first man to have raced 84,000km. In the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Raikkonen finished where he started – the first time he has done so since the 2018 Russian Grand Prix. On Saturday, Raikkonen gave Alfa Romeo their first Q2 appearance since the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, ending a streak of six consecutive double Q1 eliminations.
?? Antonio Giovinazzi
Qualifying in last place for the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Antonio Giovinazzi made this the seventh consecutive year in which an Alfa Romeo (formerly Sauber) driver has been eliminated in Q1 at the Spanish Grand Prix. This is the lowest qualifying position of Giovinazzi’s career and the first time that he has been slowest of all the drivers. It’s the fourth time in the last five races that the Italian has qualified on the back row of the grid.
?? Romain Grosjean
For the first time in nine appearances at the Spanish Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean was eliminated in Q1. On Sunday, he finished the race in a position outside of the points for the first time.
?? Kevin Magnussen
Like his team-mate, Kevin Magnussen’s record of never being eliminated in Q1 at the Spanish Grand Prix came to an end in 2020, with his first Q1 exit in six appearances at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
?? George Russell
George Russell finished seventeenth at the Spanish Grand Prix for a second consecutive season. Russell has now made 27 Formula 1 appearances without being out-qualified by his team-mate and without scoring a point. In F1 history, only six drivers have made more race starts before scoring their first point.
?? Nicholas Latifi
With eighteenth place in the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Nicholas Latifi equalled Williams’ worst result at Catalunya, excluding DNFs. The only other Williams driver to have finished eighteenth at the circuit is Robert Kubica in 2019.
