Bottas reaches Q3 for a record 67th consecutive race, Leclerc and Stroll are yet to record repeat results in 2020 and Latifi records the worst Silverstone result for a Canadian since 1999. Here’s a statistic from each driver’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix weekend!
?? Lewis Hamilton
Finishing as runner-up in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton recorded his 155th podium finish – equalling the record for most podium finishes in Formula 1. The current record of 155 was set by Michael Schumacher at the 2012 European Grand Prix. He has been the record holder for most podium finishes since the 2002 British Grand Prix. Hamilton’s podium was the 44th for a British driver at Silverstone, and only the second time in the last eight Silverstone races that he has failed to win.
?? Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas took pole position for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix – the thirteenth pole of the Finn’s career. Along with pole position, Bottas set a new record for most consecutive Q3 appearances. This was the 67th consecutive race in which Bottas has qualified in the top ten, having done so at every race weekend since the 2017 Australian Grand Prix. He beats the previous record of 66 consecutive Q3 appearances, set by Lewis Hamilton between the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix and the 2013 Belgian Grand Prix.
?? Sebastian Vettel
For the first time since 2014, a Ferrari driver failed to reach Q3 at Silverstone. That driver was Sebastian Vettel, who made this the first time in fourteen visits to Silverstone that he has failed to reach Q3. Twelfth place is Vettel’s worst qualifying position without suffering a mechanical issue since the 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
?? Charles Leclerc
With fourth place at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc recorded a third top five finish in the first five races of the 2020 season. Leclerc and Lance Stroll are the only drivers who have not recorded a repeat result in the opening five races.
?? Max Verstappen
On the weekend where he equalled his father’s number of Grand Prix starts, Max Verstappen became the first non-Mercedes driver to win a race in 2020. It was the ninth win of his career, and his first victory at Silverstone – making him the 31st driver to have won a Grand Prix at the circuit. The last time Red Bull won at Silverstone, Mark Webber also recorded his ninth F1 win.
?? Alex Albon
Alex Albon finished fifth in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, recording the best ever finish for a Thai driver at Silverstone. The previous best result for a Thai driver at the circuit was seventh, scored by Prince Bira at the 1953 British Grand Prix.
?? Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz qualified in thirteenth place for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, making this the first time that a McLaren driver has failed to reach Q3 since the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix. It also means that Mercedes are now the only team to have reached Q3 with both cars at every race in 2020.
?? Lando Norris
Lando Norris finished ninth in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. He’s the tenth British driver to have finished ninth in a round of the World Championship held at Silverstone – the first to do so since Paul di Resta in 2013.
?? Daniel Ricciardo
Finishing in fourteenth place, Daniel Ricciardo failed to score at Silverstone for the first time since his retirement from the 2015 British Grand Prix.
?? Esteban Ocon
Esteban Ocon finished eighth in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. He maintains his 100% points-scoring record at Silverstone, having scored points on all four of his visits to the circuit.
Nico Hulkenberg
Nico Hulkenberg qualified in an impressive third place for Racing Point at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. It was the fourth time that Hulkenberg has lined up in the top three on the grid. He also did so at the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix, the 2013 Italian Grand Prix and the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg’s third place in qualifying is the Silverstone-based team’s best Saturday result at their home track since Heinz-Harald Frentzen qualified on the front row for Jordan in 2000.
?? Lance Stroll
Lance Stroll recorded his best ever Silverstone result and the fifth top six result of his career with sixth place at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. It equals the team’s best result at their home track since Sergio Perez finished sixth in 2016. A car from the Silverstone-based team has not finished in a better position at the circuit since Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished fourth in 1999.
?? Daniil Kvyat
On the weekend where Daniil Kvyat entered his 100th Grand Prix, he finished in tenth place for the third time in the last seven races. It’s the first time that the driver starting sixteenth has scored at Silverstone since Kvyat’s then team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne did so at the 2014 British Grand Prix.
?? Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly recorded his team’s second-best Silverstone qualifying result at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. Gasly qualified seventh for AlphaTauri – the only time that has been beaten at Silverstone was at the 2013 British Grand Prix, when Daniel Ricciardo qualified fifth for Toro Rosso.
?? Kimi Raikkonen
Completing 51 of the 52 laps in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen became the driver to have completed the most racing laps in Formula 1 history. His tally of laps complete now stands at 16,845 – twenty more laps than Michael Schumacher completed during his career. Raikkonen also equalled Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello for most Silverstone race entries. This was his nineteenth appearance at the circuit.
?? Antonio Giovinazzi
For the second time in his career – and the second time in the last three races – Antonio Giovinazzi finished in seventeenth place. He has now had as many seventeenth places in his career as fellow 2020 drivers Carlos Sainz, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.
?? Romain Grosjean
Romain Grosjean, who sits last in the Drivers’ Championship after the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, recorded a fifth Q2 elimination at Silverstone. Only Sergio Perez has had more Q2 exits at the track, having been eliminated in the session seven times. Grosjean finished sixteenth for a third consecutive race.
?? Kevin Magnussen
For a third Silverstone race in a row, Kevin Magnussen was the first retirement of the Grand Prix. He’s the first driver to have been the first retirement of the race on three consecutive visits to Silverstone and the first driver to be the first retirement of two consecutive races since Fernando Alonso at the 2018 United States and Mexican Grands Prix. Only Andrea de Cesaris, Ivan Capelli, Eddie Irvine, Pedro Diniz and Riccardo Patrese have had more consecutive DNFs at Silverstone.
?? George Russell
At the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, George Russell reached Q2 for a fourth consecutive race weekend. He’s the first Williams driver to reach Q3 at four consecutive races since Felipe Massa at the end of the 2017 season.
?? Nicholas Latifi
Finishing nineteenth in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Nicholas Latifi recorded the worst result at Silverstone for a Canadian driver since Jacques Villeneuve retired from the 1999 British Grand Prix. Villeneuve also retired from the event in 2000, but was classified in sixteenth place.
