RACE BY RACE: ALEX ALBON‘S 2023 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS
2023 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX
With 15th place in qualifying for the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix was the first time since the 2022 United States Grand Prix that Alex Albon has not qualified on the back row of the grid.
Albon finished the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix in tenth place, scoring his first point since the 2022 Belgian Grand Prix. Albon’s tenth place marked the first time that Williams scored at the Bahrain Grand Prix since 2017, when Felipe Massa finished in sixth place. 2017 was also the last time that the team picked up points at the first race of the year.
With Lance Stroll finishing sixth and Albon tenth, the duo left the race tied on 202 career points. It leaves them both tied with Daniil Kvyat – who also scored 202 career points – for fifth in the all-time list of most points without a victory.
2023 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
After recording a Q1 exit on Saturday. Alex Albon was the second and final retirement from the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Suffering a brake failure, Albon retained his 100% non-finish rate at the track, having also retired from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2022. Albon’s retirement means that Williams have recorded at least one retirement on all three visits to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. They are the only team to have done so.
2023 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon reached Q3 at the Australian Grand Prix for the first time and recorded Williams’ best Albert Park qualifying result since 2017. While running an impressive sixth in the race, Albon crashed out of the race and recorded his second retirement of the 2023 season. His crash brought out the red flags, making this the third Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park to be red-flagged, after the 1996 and 2016 races.
2023 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
With 13th place, Alex Albon equalled his best Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying result to date. He also qualified 13th in 2019. 2023 MIAMI GRAND PRIX
Qualifying in 11th place for the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, Alex Albon maintained his record of out-qualifying his team-mate at every race in the 2023 season. Fernando Alonso is the only other driver to have done so after the first five races.
2023 MONACO GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon qualified in 13th place. With Logan Sargeant out in Q1, it means that Pastor Maldonado remains the last Williams driver to reach Q3 at the Monaco Grand Prix. He did so back in 2012.
2023 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon recorded his second Q1 exit of the year at the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix. With Fernando Alonso being out-qualified by Lance Stroll, Albon is now the only driver yet to be out-qualified by his team-mate in 2023.
2023 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon set the fastest lap time in Q2 at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. This was the first time Williams have been fastest in a qualifying session since Felipe Massa set the fastest time in Q1 at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix. He went on to finish an impressive seventh in the race; his best result since the 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Williams team’s best result since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix. Albon was voted Driver Of The Day for the fourth time in his career. He was also awarded the accolade at the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix, the 2019 United States Grand Prix and the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix.
2023 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon reached Q3 for the second race in a row. It was only the second time in the last nine races at the Red Bull Ring that a Williams driver reached Q3. This is the first time since the 2021 Austrian and British Grands Prix that Williams reached Q3 at successive races.
2023 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Qualifying eighth, Alex Albon equalled his best Saturday result of the season to date at the 2023 British Grand Prix. He also qualified eighth at the Australian Grand Prix. This was Albon’s best-ever qualifying result at Silverstone, having previously qualified ninth at both the 2019 British Grand Prix and the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. Albon’s Q3 appearance made this the first time that Williams reached Q3 at three consecutive races since the 2017 Bahrain, Russian and Spanish Grands Prix.
Alex Albon brought home points for Williams with an eighth place finish. It equalled his second-best Silverstone result, having also finished eighth in the 2020 British Grand Prix. Albon became the first Williams driver to score points at the British Grand Prix since Felipe Massa in 2017.
2023 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon’s 16th place in qualifying for the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix brought an end to a streak of three consecutive Q3 appearances. Finishing 11th, Albon made the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix the fourth consecutive race in which he has finished in the top 11.
2023 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon was eliminated in Q1 at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix for the first time in his career. He reached Q3 at Spa in each of the previous two seasons. Finishing 14th, Albon finished outside of the top ten at the Belgian Grand Prix for the first time in his career.

He finished the race in eighth place, recording his fourth points finish of the 2023 season. He last scored at the British Grand Prix, where he also finished eighth.
2023 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
With sixth place in qualifying, Alex Albon maintained his 100% Q3 appearance record at the Italian Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri joined him in the club. Sebastien Bourdais is the only other driver to have reached Q3 on every appearance at Monza. Albon recorded Williams’ first Q3 appearance at the Italian Grand Prix since 2018. Albon qualified in the top six at consecutive races for the first time since the 2020 Turkish and Bahrain Grands Prix.
Albon finished the 2023 Italian Grand Prix in seventh place, finishing in the top eight for a second consecutive race. This was the first time that Albon has finished in the top eight at successive events since his last races with Red Bull in 2020. Albon recorded Williams’ best result at the Italian Grand Prix since Lance Stroll also finished seventh in 2017 and became the first Williams driver to finish in the top eight at consecutive races since George Russell did so at the 2021 Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix.
2023 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
Setting the 14th fastest time in Q1, Alex Albon became the first Williams driver to reach Q2 at the Singapore Grand Prix since both of the team’s drivers did so in 2016. Finishing 11th, Albon narrowly missed out on scoring points for a third consecutive race weekend. Albon’s 11th place marked the best result for a Williams driver at the Singapore Grand Prix since Lance Stroll finished eighth in 2017.
2023 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon became the first Williams driver since Lance Stroll in 2018 to progress to Q2 at the Japanese Grand Prix. 2023 QATAR GRAND PRIX
Having not competed in 2021, Alex Albon made his first appearance at Lusail Circuit in the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix. Albon started and finished 13th in the race. 2023 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
With 18th place in qualifying for the 2023 United States Grand Prix, Alex Albon equalled his worst qualifying result of the season to date. He also qualified 18th at the Spanish Grand Prix. This was Albon’s first Q1 exit at the United States Grand Prix.

2023 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Alex Albon was eliminated on the opening lap of the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, ending a two-race run of points-scoring finishes with his fourth retirement of the season. Albon recorded Williams’ first DNF at Interlagos since Felipe Massa’s retirement from the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix.
2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX
