RACE BY RACE: CHARLES LECLERC’S 2024 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2024 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified on the front row for the sixth consecutive race at the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, matching the second longest consecutive front row qualification streak of his career to date. This was Leclerc’s third front row qualification in Bahrain, having previously taken pole position in both 2019 and 2022. Although Max Verstappen took pole position, Leclerc’s session-topping lap time from Q2 was 0.014 seconds faster than Verstappen’s pole lap time.

2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified on the front row for the seventh consecutive race at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, lining up alongside Max Verstappen on the first row for a fifth successive race weekend. Leclerc reached Q3 for the 100th time in his Formula 1 career, becoming the 15th driver to make 100 Q3 appearances.

Leclerc recorded his second podium finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, finishing second. He set the fastest lap of the race, recording the first fastest lap for a Ferrari driver since the 2022 French Grand Prix.

2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

In the 50th Grand Prix to feature a driver from Monaco on the grid, Charles Leclerc followed team-mate Carlos Sainz over the line, recording Ferrari’s 86th 1-2 finish. This was their first 1-2 result since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, as well as Ferrari’s first 1-2 result at Albert Park since the 2004 Australian Grand Prix.

Leclerc recorded the 32nd podium finish of his career, equalling the career totals of Jim Clark, Jacques Laffite, Jean Alesi and Daniel Ricciardo. This was Leclerc’s 32nd podium finish with Ferrari, seeing him equal Niki Lauda for seventh in the list of most top three finishes recorded with the Scuderia.

Setting the fifth fastest time in Q3 at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, Leclerc ended a seven-race run of front row qualifications.

Leclerc set the fastest lap for a second consecutive race, recording a new Lap Record at the Albert Park track. Leclerc is the fifth driver to record multiple fastest laps at Albert Park.

2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc finished fourth in the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, finishing off the podium for the first time since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, in which he also finished fourth.

He qualified eighth for the race, marking the first time since the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix that he qualified outside of the top five positions. Leclerc gained four places in the race – the most positions he gained in a race since the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. It was the first time he finished in a better position than where he started at Suzuka.

2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc out-qualified his team-mate for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix – and out-qualified Carlos Sainz for the first time since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Finishing fourth in the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, Leclerc continued his record of being the only driver to finish in the top four at every Grand Prix to date in 2024.

2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified on the front row for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. While Max Verstappen became the first driver to record three podium finishes at the Miami Grand Prix, Leclerc became the second to record multiple podium results at the track. He recorded his 33rd podium finish with Ferrari, overtaking Niki Lauda for seventh in the list of most podium finishes with the team. Leclerc’s third place finish made Monaco the 19th nation to have scored points in 100 Grands Prix.

2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

Finishing third in the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc became the first Ferrari driver to finish on the podium at Imola since Michael Schumacher won the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix. This was Leclerc’s fourth podium finish – and the third time he finished third – in 2024. Leclerc became the 40th different driver to finish on the podium in Imola’s F1 history.

The 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was the 100th race weekend at which Leclerc has scored a point. He became the 20th driver to score points in 100 Grands Prix.

Both scoring points for the fourth time in four appearances, Leclerc and Lando Norris usurped Didier Pironi as the drivers who’ve made the most starts at Imola without ever failing to score a point.

2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc finally broke his home race curse and took victory at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. This was the first Monaco Grand Prix win for a Monegasque driver since Louis Chiron won in 1931, 93 years ago. Leclerc is also the first Monegasque driver to finish on the podium in Monaco since Chiron in 1950. This was the sixth victory of Leclerc’s career – his first since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.

After 12 successive failed attempts to convert pole into a win, Leclerc won from pole position for the first time since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix.

Leclerc recorded Ferrari’s tenth victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. It was the team’s first win in the principality since Sebastian Vettel won in 2017. Leclerc became the first Ferrari driver to convert pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix into a win since Jody Scheckter in 1979. Niki Lauda is the only other Ferrari driver to have done so, in 1975 and 1976.

Leclerc was voted Driver of the Day with 32.4% of the vote. It was his 14th win in total, tying with Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez as the driver to have won the vote on the third-most occasions.

This was Leclerc’s third consecutive podium finish. It’s the first time he has finished in the top three at three races in a row since the 2022 Singapore, Japanese and United States Grands Prix.

Leclerc took pole position for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, recording the 24th pole position of his Formula 1 career. This was Leclerc’s first pole position since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix marked the third time that Leclerc recorded a pole position at his home event. It was his third Monaco Grand Prix pole in the last four years.

Leclerc’s pole at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix marked the 250th pole position for Ferrari in Formula 1. They are the first constructor to reach the milestone. Recording his 24th pole position with Ferrari, Leclerc’s pole saw him overtake Niki Lauda in the list of drivers who’ve taken the most poles with the team. Only Michael Schumacher now sits ahead of Leclerc on the list. This was Leclerc’s fourth front row qualification of the year to date.

Leclerc’s pole position time – a 1:10.270 – was only 0.104 seconds slower than the Track Record at Circuit de Monaco, which was set by Lewis Hamilton in 2019.

2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

For the first time since 1986, neither Ferrari driver qualified in the top ten for the Canadian Grand Prix. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were eliminated in Q2, each recording their worst qualifying results of the season to date. Leclerc’s Q2 exit ended a streak of 22 consecutive Q3 appearances. This was his first Q2 exit since exiting in Q2 at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, 12 months previously.

On Sunday, Leclerc recorded his first non-finish since failing to start the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. This was the Ferrari driver’s first DNF at the Canadian Grand Prix. He lost his 100% points-finishing record at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as a result.

2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

With Charles Leclerc qualifying fifth and Carlos Sainz sixth, the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix was the first time since 2020 that neither Ferrari driver qualified in the top four for the Spanish Grand Prix. Leclerc finished fifth in the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. His DNF last time out in Canada and his fifth place in Spain are the only times so far this year that Leclerc has finished outside of the top four.

2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc finished 11th in the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, finishing outside of the points in a race which he has completed for the first time since he finished 11th in the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix. Leclerc became the first Ferrari driver to finish a race at the Red Bull Ring but not score a point since 1999, when Mika Salo finished ninth. This was the first time since the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix that Leclerc failed to score a point at the Red Bull Ring.

2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified in 11th place for the 2024 British Grand Prix, missing out on Q3 for the second time this year. He also qualified 11th for the Canadian Grand Prix. This was the first time in his Formula 1 career that Leclerc failed to progress to Q3 at Silverstone. Leclerc’s Q2 exit marked only the sixth time that a Ferrari driver failed to progress to Q3 at Silverstone since the knockout system was introduced in 2006.

For the second race in a row, Leclerc finished outside of the points at the 2024 British Grand Prix. His 14th place marked the first time he had finished a race in a position outside of the top 11 since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix. Leclerc failed to score in an F1 race at Silverstone for the first time since retiring on his first appearance at the track in 2018. This was the first time Leclerc failed to score at consecutive races since the 2020 Sakhir and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.

2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Finishing fourth in the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc recorded his first top four result since his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. Leclerc equalled his best result to date at the Hungarian Grand Prix, having last finished fourth here in 2019. This was the first time since the Chinese Grand Prix that Leclerc finished the race in a better position than where he started, as well as the first time in his career that he finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in a better place than where he started.

2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

For the second year in a row, a grid penalty for Max Verstappen saw Charles Leclerc inherit pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix. This marked the 25th pole position of Leclerc’s career, seeing him move ahead of Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet to 12th on the list of all-time pole positions in Formula 1.

This was Leclerc’s first front row qualification – and his first top four qualification – since his pole position at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Leclerc’s pole position marks the 50th pole position for car number 16 in Formula 1.

Finishing third having started from pole position, Charles Leclerc failed to convert pole into a win for the 20th time in his career. He is only the fifth driver – after Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel – who’ve failed to convert as many as 20 poles into victory.

The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix was the sixth consecutive race which the polesitter failed to win. It marked the first time that the polesitter has failed to take victory at six races in a row since the six races between the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix and the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix. Leclerc has failed to convert 80% of his pole positions into race victories.

This was the third year in a row that a Ferrari driver finished the Belgian Grand Prix in third place having started from pole. This was Leclerc’s first podium finish since his Monaco Grand Prix victory. Leclerc recorded his 36th podium finish with Ferrari, equalling Felipe Massa as the driver who has recorded the sixth most top three finishes with the team.

2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc recorded his 37th podium finish with Ferrari at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. He overtook Felipe Massa as the driver who has secured the sixth-most top three finishes with Ferrari in Formula 1. Leclerc became the 24th different driver to have recorded multiple podium finishes at the Dutch Grand Prix. He and Max Verstappen are the only current drivers to have done so. This was Leclerc’s second consecutive podium finish, having also finished third in the Belgian Grand Prix.

On Saturday, Leclerc joined Verstappen as the first drivers to reach Q3 at Zandvoort on four occasions.

2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc made his 118th start with Ferrari at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, equalling Sebastian Vettel as the driver to have made the fourth most starts with the team in Formula 1 history.

Five years to the day since his first Formula 1 victory, Leclerc secured the seventh win of his career at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. Leclerc became the 42nd driver to secure as many as seven Grand Prix victories in his career. Monza is the first track at which Leclerc has taken multiple Formula 1 victories, having last won here in 2019. Leclerc is the 21st driver to have taken more than one win at Monza. Having won the Monaco Grand Prix, Leclerc became the fourth driver – after Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris – to secure multiple victories in 2024. This was Ferrari’s 20th victory at Monza. They became the first team to secure as many as 20 wins at a single circuit.

Leclerc was the first driver to win at Monza having started fourth on the grid since Rubens Barrichello in 2002. This was the fourth time in the last seven years that a driver who did not start on the front row won at Monza. This was Leclerc’s third podium in a row. This was his second streak of three consecutive podiums in 2024, each being two third places followed by a win.

2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc made his 119th start with Ferrari at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, moving ahead of Sebastian Vettel as the driver to have made the fourth most starts with the team in Formula 1 history.

For the fourth year in a row, Leclerc secured pole position at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This was the 26th pole position of Leclerc’s career, seeing him equal Mika Hakkinen for 11th on the list of most all-time Formula 1 pole positions. Ferrari become the first team to take five pole positions in Azerbaijan.

As well as extending the record for most pole positions at Baku City Circuit, Leclerc equalled Lewis Hamilton’s record for most front row starts at the track. This was the second time Leclerc was fastest in qualifying in 2024 – after the Monaco Grand Prix – but it was the third time he started from pole position this year, after the Monaco and Belgian Grands Prix.

For the fourth year in a row, Leclerc failed to convert Azerbaijan Grand Prix pole position into a win. This was the 20th time that Leclerc has taken pole and not won the race, seeing him move ahead of Nelson Piquet to fifth on the list of drivers who’ve had the most failed pole to win conversions in Formula 1.

Leclerc finished on the podium for the fourth consecutive race. This was the first time since 2022 that he finished on the podium in four successive races. Scoring his 39th podium finish, Leclerc equalled Sergio Perez for 24th on the all-time list of most Formula 1 podium finishes. Leclerc equalled Ferrari’s best result in Azerbaijan, with the team previously finishing second in both 2016 and 2018.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

For the first time since the Canadian Grand Prix, neither Ferrari driver qualified in the top eight at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. This was the first time since 2009 that neither Ferrari qualified in the top six at the Singapore Grand Prix. Ninth place is Charles Leclerc’s worst qualifying result in Singapore since his maiden season, when he qualified 13th.

Finishing fifth, Leclerc maintained his 100% points-scoring rate at the Singapore Grand Prix. This was the first time since the Hungarian Grand Prix that Leclerc did not finish on the podium, ending a streak of four consecutive podium results.

2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc took victory at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. This was the eighth victory of his career, equalling Jacky Ickx, Denny Hulme and Daniel Ricciardo for 37th in Formula 1’s all-time win list. Leclerc secured Ferrari’s second victory at the Circuit of The Americas – the team’s first at the venue since Kimi Raikkonen secured his last win with Ferrari at the 2018 United States Grand Prix.

This was Leclerc’s third victory of the year, after his wins at the Monaco and Italian Grands Prix. It saw him equal his personal best for most wins in a single season, having last won three races in a single year in 2022. Leclerc finished on the podium for the fifth time in the last six races. Leclerc was voted F1 Driver of The Day for the 16th time in his career. It was the fourth time this year that he won the vote.

This was the 11th victory for a Ferrari-powered car at the United States Grand Prix in its history on the F1 calendar. That saw Ferrari equal Ford Cosworth as the engine manufacturer to have powered the most wins at the event.

This was the first time that the driver starting fourth won the United States Grand Prix at COTA, as well as only the second time – after 2023 – that a driver who did not start on the front row won at the track.

2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

After maintaining his 100% Q3 record at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Charles Leclerc on the podium for the sixth time in the last seven races at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix. Leclerc recorded his 41st podium finish, equalling Felipe Massa for 23rd on the list of all-time Formula 1 podiums. Leclerc’s podium was the 100th podium finish for the driver of car number 16 in F1. Leclerc has recorded 40 of those podium finishes. Leclerc secured the fastest lap on the final lap of the race. This was the first time he set the fastest lap since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.

2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

With Charles Leclerc qualifying sixth and Carlos Sainz only 14th, this was the first time since 2014 that neither Ferrari driver qualified in the top three at Interlagos. For only the second time in the last eight races, Leclerc did not finish on the podium. Finishing fifth, he retained his record of finishing in the top five at all of the last nine Grands Prix.

2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified fourth for the third time in the last four races, having qualified outside of the top six only once in the last ten race weekends. Ferrari were the only team to reach Q3 with both cars in qualifying for both the 2023 and 2024 Las Vegas Grands Prix. Leclerc finished fourth in the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, recording a tenth consecutive top five result.

2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc recorded the 42nd podium appearance of his career at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, equalling Damon Hill and Mark Webber for 21st on the all-time list of most F1 podium finishes. Leclerc finished on the podium for the 12th time in 2024 – a new personal best for the most top three finishes Leclerc has recorded in a single season. This was Leclerc’s – and Ferrari’s – first top four finish at Lusail Circuit.

2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc exited in Q2 at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, failing to reach Q3 at Yas Marina Circuit for the first time in his career. This was the first time Leclerc failed to reach Q3 since the British Grand Prix, ending a streak of 11 top ten qualifications.

Leclerc turned his fortunes around on Sunday and recorded the 43rd podium finish, equalling Jackie Stewart for 20th on the all-time podium list. This was Leclerc’s third consecutive podium finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Leclerc became the fourth driver to finish on the podium having started 19th on the grid in World Championship history. The other drivers to have done so are Bill Vukovich (at the 1954 Indianapolis 500), Alex Wurz (at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix) and Valtteri Bottas (at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix). Leclerc gained 16 positions from where he started – the most places he has ever gained in a Grand Prix. Leclerc’s podium marked the first time that the driver starting 19th has ever scored a point at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
