Just over half of the current grid have competed in more than one Grand Prix in Hockenheim, though every driver has competed here in at least one category of motorsport. Take a look at each driver’s form at Hockenheim!
?? Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has won two races at Hockenehim, including at the most recent German Grand Prix in 2016. He’s had three podiums in total and, aside from a retirement in 2012, has never finished lower than fourth at the track. Hamilton has one pole position here, which he took in 2008, as well as one other front row start in 2016. 2014 is the only time the Brit has failed to reach Q3 at Hockenheim. That was due to a brake failure which forced him out in Q2. The low qualifying result allowed him to gain seventeen positions in the race that year. Hamilton has never lost a position on his starting place in every race he’s competed in at Hockenheim. Unusually for the four-time World Champion, he hasn’t beaten a team-mate in Qualifying at this track since his first visit in 2008.
?? Valtteri Bottas
From his two previous visits to Hockenheim, both with Williams, Valtteri Bottas has a 100% finish rate, a 100% points scoring record and a 100% Q3 rate. He finished as runner-up in 2014 after starting from the front row of the grid and came home ninth in 2016. Bottas is yet to gain a position on his starting place at Hockenheim. The Finn has never been beaten by a team-mate in Qualifying at this track.
?? Sebastian Vettel
Like Bottas, Sebastian Vettel has a 100% finish rate, a 100% points scoring record and a 100% Q3 rate at Hockenheim. Vettel has won his home Grand Prix, but not as this track. His best result here was third in 2010, which remains his only podium finish at the track. He’s finished in the top five in four of his five visits here. 2008 was his lowest result, when he came home in eighth. Vettel has a solitary pole position at Hockenheim, which he secured in 2010. He hasn’t started on the front row here since 2012.
?? Kimi Raikkonen
Kimi Raikkonen retired from all five of his first appearances at Hockenheim, including two hefty shunts at the first turn. Since his streak of bad luck ended in 2005, he hasn’t retired from a race at the track. He’s finished on the podium twice, with third place finishes in 2006 and 2012. Raikkonen started from pole at this track in 2005 and 2006, but hasn’t had any other front row starts. He’s reached Q3 on every occasion but one, in 2014. In 2016, Raikkonen beat team-mate Sebastian Vettel in Qualifying.
?? Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo is another driver with a 100% finish rate at Hockenheim. From his three previous visits he’s reached Q3 twice here and is yet to beaten by a team-mate on a Saturday. The Australian has never qualified on the front row in Germany. He finished as runner-up in 2016, a race in which he set the fastest lap of the Grand Prix. Ricciardo performed his first podium Shoey at the last German Grand Prix.
?? Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen has only raced at the Hockenheimring once previously in Formula One. He qualified fourth, behind his team-mate. In the Grand Prix, he finished on the podium in thir place, again just behind his team-mate. It was the first time he and Daniel Ricciardo finished on the podium together during their time as Red Bull team-mates.
?? Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez has a 100% points scoring record from the three Grands Prix he’s competed in at Hockenheim. He had a best finish of sixth when driving for Sauber in 2012 – a race in which he gained eleven places from his starting position. That season was also the only time he’s beaten a team-mate in Qualifying at the track. The Mexican has qualified in the top ten twice and his best starting slot here is ninth, which he achieved in 2016.
?? Esteban Ocon
The last German Grand Prix was the last F1 event to not feature Esteban Ocon on the grid, though he did drive in Free Practice for Renault that weekend. Ocon has previously raced at this track in European Formula Three and DTM. He retired from both DTM races he contested but had better fortune in F3, winning the second race of the weekend in 2014 with the Prema team.
?? Lance Stroll
Lance Stroll has previously raced at Hockenheim in European Formula 3 in 2016. Impressively, the Canadian won all three races that weekend.
?? Sergey Sirotkin
Though he has no past F1 experience at Hockenheim, Sergey Sirotkin took two podium finishes in the GP2 races when they were on the support bill for the 2016 German Grand Prix. He won the Feature Race and finished as runner-up in the Sprint Race.
?? Nico Hulkenberg
Nico Hulkenberg has scored in three of his four outings at this track. He’s finished seventh in each of the last two German Grands Prix. He’s reached Q3 on every occasion at Hockenheim and has a best starting place of fourth on the grid in 2012. He hasn’t been beaten by a team-mate in Qualifying here since his début season in 2010. In each of the last two races at this track, Hulkenberg has gained places on his starting position.
?? Carlos Sainz
From his one previous appearance at the German Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz finished the race in fourteenth after starting fifteenth. He beat his team-mate in Qualifying.
?? Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly has no past F1 experience at Hockenheim, but competed here in GP2 in his title-winning year in 2016. He was disqualified from a podium finish in the Feature Race but fought back valiantly in the Sprint Race to finish sixth.
?? Brendon Hartley
Brendon Hartley raced at Hockenheim in F3 in 2008 and 2009, with a best result of fourteenth in the second race in 2008.
?? Romain Grosjean
Perhaps the most interesting fact from Romain Grosjean’s past appearances at Hockenheim is that he’s qualified fifteenth all three times, yet has never started from fifteenth on the grid. The Frenchman has never scored a point at this track. He has a best finish of thirteenth, which was in 2016. In both of the races he’s finished here, he’s gained places on his starting position. Grosjean has been eliminated in Q2 on all three of his appearances at Hockenheim.
?? Kevin Magnussen
When Kevin Magnussen lines up on the grid on Sunday, it’ll be the third time he’s started a German Grand Prix. Haas will also become the third different team which the Dane has competed with at the track. In 2014, Magnussen qualified fourth and finished ninth for McLaren, while in 2016 he finished sixteenth for Renault. He’s never gained a position from his starting place at Hockenheim. He’s had one Q1 exit and one Q3 appearance.
?? Fernando Alonso
Qualifying day at the 2018 German Grand Prix will mark six years since Fernando Alonso’s last Formula One pole position, which came at this track. In terms of points, Alonso is the most successful current driver at the track, with 85 points. He’s had three wins and four podiums in total and has scored on seven of his ten appearances at Hockenheim. The Spaniard has a 100% finish rate at the track, and has never finished below twelfth. Aside from his début season and his last appearance at the track two years ago, Alonso has qualified in the top ten on every occasion. He’s beaten his team-mate in Qualifying on six of his ten visits to this track.
?? Stoffel Vandoorne
Stoffel Vandoorne is yet to drive an F1 car at Hockenheim. He raced here in GP2 in 2014. He finished on the podium in both races, with a best result of second in the Feature Race.
?? Marcus Ericsson
Marcus Ericsson has never scored at Hockenheim, nor has he ever progressed past Q1 in either of his two previous visits. Both times he’s qualified at the back of the grid and both times he’s finished eighteenth in the Grand Prix. He’s never beaten a team-mate in qualifying in Germany.
?? Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc took three podiums at this track in F3 in 2015, including a win in the third race. The following year he competed here in GP3, finishing fifth in the Feature Race and third in the Sprint Race. He drove for Haas in Free Practice for the 2016 German Grand Prix.
