F1 2020 Pre-Season Testing: Day 4 Statistics

Robert Kubica topped the timesheet for Alfa Romeo, while Red Bull and Racing Point showed good pace on harder tyre compounds. Here are all the statistics from the fourth day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Robert Kubica was the surprise name at the top of the timesheets as pre-season testing got back underway at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The morning session saw less running than on any day last week, with the Alfa Romeo test driver topping the board with a 1:16.942 on the C5 tyres. The morning was interrupted by two red flag periods within forty minutes of one another. First, Sebastian Vettel spun following a trip through the gravel. The red flags were brought out to clear away the mess that Vettel had made on the circuit. Less than half an hour after the green flag re-emerged, Nicholas Latifi came to a halt on track, with Williams citing an engine issue as the reason for the Canadian’s stoppage.

In the afternoon, the drivers completed plenty of laps on long runs, with few times challenging the top of the leaderboard. The exceptions were Max Verstappen, who lapped second fastest on the C3 compound, and Sergio Perez, who impressed by lapping only eight hundredths slower than Verstappen on the same tyre compound. The session came to a slightly premature end, with Verstappen and Daniil Kvyat both stopping on track at the same time. Romain Grosjean was the only driver who was in the car all day, with every team except Haas switching drivers over the lunch hour. As a result, the Frenchman was the only drier to record 100 laps today. Racing Point, Alfa Romeo, Red Bull and Ferrari all recorded their best 2020 lap times.
