F1 2020 Pre-Season Testing: Day 5 Statistics

Ferrari set the pace and Williams complete the most laps as Mercedes end the day bottom of the lap count. Here are all the statistics from the fifth day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

It has been a challenging day for the reigning World Champions. Valtteri Bottas’ morning running ended early as the Mercedes was pulled into the garage. The W11 then stayed in the garage for the first hour of the afternoon session and Lewis Hamilton completed only fourteen laps before the car came to a halt. The team did not appear on track for the rest of the day.

There were four red flags in total today, with Turn Five proving to be a tricky part of the track this morning. Antonio Giovinazzi, Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel all brought out the red flags due to incidents at the corner. Giovinazzi hit the barriers and damaged his car, Verstappen was beached in the gravel and Vettel was able to keep going; but the red flags were brought out for debris following his trip through the gravel. Aside from Vettel’s hiccup, it has been a good day for Ferrari, with the Scuderia setting the fastest time. Today’s pace was just over a tenth quicker than the session-topping pace set by Robert Kubica yesterday. Elsewhere, Racing Point’s pace on their long run compared well to Ferrari’s pace, while Williams complete the most laps.
