RACE BY RACE: FRANCO COLAPINTO‘S 2024 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto made his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, taking Logan Sargeant’s seat at Williams. Colapinto became the first Argentine driver to race in F1 since Gaston Mazzacane at the 2001 San Marino Grand Prix and the first driver to start a race in car number 43 since Nigel Mansell in the 1980 Dutch Grand Prix.

Colapinto qualified 18th with Williams at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. In the race, he was the only driver to make up more than three positions. He gained six places to finish 12th. The result saw him overtake Valtteri Bottas in the Drivers’ Championship.

2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto reached Q3 for the first time in his Formula 1 career at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. With both Colapinto and Alex Albon qualifying in the top ten, this was the first time Williams saw both cars reach Q3 since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This was Williams’ first Q3 appearance in Azerbaijan since 2017. Colapinto became the first Argentine driver to qualify in the top ten since Carlos Reutemann, who qualified sixth on his final F1 appearance at the 1982 Brazilian Grand Prix.

For the first time since the 2022 British Grand Prix, Albon was out-qualified by his team-mate in Grand Prix qualifying.

On Sunday, Colapinto became the first Argentine driver to finish in the top eight since Gaston Mazzacane at the 2000 European Grand Prix and became the first Argentine driver to score a point since Carlos Reutemann at the 1982 South African Grand Prix. Colapinto scored more points in his first two races as a Williams driver than Logan Sargeant did in the previous 37 races and scored more points in two races than Sargeant and Nicholas Latifi did between them in the previous 69 Grands Prix.

Colapinto became the third driver to record the first points of his career in Azerbaijan, after Charles Leclerc and Brendon Hartley both did so in 2018.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto just missed out on points on his third Formula 1 appearance, finishing in 11th place – remaining yet to finish a Grand Prix outside of the top 12 positions. On Saturday, for the first time since 2016, both Williams drivers progressed to Q2 at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Alex Albon and Colapinto qualified 11th and 12th respectively for the race – the same positions in which Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa qualified with the team in 2016. Albon out-qualified Colapinto by only 0.007 seconds.

2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Finishing tenth in the 2024 United States, Franco Colapinto picked up a point for the second time in his four Formula 1 appearances. Colapinto remained yet to finish a Grand Prix in a worse position than where he started.

2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto was eliminated in Q1 at successive races for the first time in his career. Finishing the race in 12th, Colapinto equalled the worst result of his Formula 1 career to date.

2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto crashed out in Q1 and qualified only 18th for the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. It equalled his worst qualifying result to date, having also qualified 18th at the Italian Grand Prix.

Colapinto was the retirement from the race, crashing out before the halfway point. This was the first DNF of his career – and the first time he finished outside of the top 12 positions. With Albon failing to start and Colapinto retiring, Williams recorded their first double non-finish in Brazil since 2012.

2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Franco Colapinto out-qualified team-mate Alex Albon for the first time since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Argentine driver crashed out at the end of Q2, though it was the first time he progressed past Q1 since the Baku race. With Colapinto 14th and Albon 18th, this was the first time in any of F1’s three visits to Las Vegas in which neither Williams driver qualified in the top ten.

Colapinto finished 14th in the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix – his worst result from the six races in which he has reached the chequered flag.

2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX

With 19th place, Franco Colapinto recorded his worst qualifying result to date in Formula 1 at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. This was the first time a Williams driver qualified on the back row at the Qatar Grand Prix. Colapinto was out on the opening lap of the race, recording his second retirement in the last three races.

2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

With Alex Albon 16th and Franco Colapinto 19th, Williams recorded the same qualifying result at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as they did one week prior in Qatar.
