RACE BY RACE: KEVIN MAGNUSSEN‘S 2024 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2024 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Having been eliminated in Q1 or reached Q3 on every Bahrain appearance prior to 2024, Kevin Magnussen qualified 15th for the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, recording his first Q2 exit at the track.

2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen finished 12th in the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This was the first time in his three appearances at the event that Magnussen failed to score at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. With team-mate Nico Hulkenberg tenth, this was the first time since last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that both Haas drivers finished in the top 12 in a Grand Prix.

2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen finished tenth in the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, scoring a point for the first time since the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, where he also finished tenth. This was the first time Magnussen scored a point in Australia since 2019.

2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen recorded his 68th Q1 exit, putting him three away from equalling Marcus Ericsson at the top of the all-time list of most Q1 eliminations. With 18th place, Magnussen recorded his worst qualifying result since qualifying on the back row at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix. This was Magnussen’s first Q1 exit of the year. 2024 was the third consecutive season in which a Haas driver qualified 18th for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Driving from 18th to 13th, Magnussen made up five positions in the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix – the most of any driver. With 13th place, Magnussen recorded his best result at Suzuka since finishing eighth in the 2017 Japanese Grand Prix.

2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

With Kevin Magnussen on the grid, the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix was the 200th race in which a Danish driver has competed. With 17th place, Kevin Magnussen equalled his worst Chinese Grand Prix qualifying result to date. On Sunday, he finished 16th – his worst result of the season to date.

2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen set the 19th fastest time in qualifying for the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, recording a third consecutive Q1 exit. It was the worst qualifying result to date for a Haas driver at the Miami Grand Prix. Magnussen qualified on the back row for the first time since the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix.

2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen exited in Q1 at the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, recording the 71st Q1 elimination of his Formula 1 career. That saw him equal Marcus Ericsson at the top of the list of most Q1 exits in Formula 1. Magnussen made up six places in the race – the most positions gained of any driver. This was the first time Magnussen has made up as many as six positions since the 2022 British Grand Prix, when he gained seven places.

2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Both Haas cars were eliminated in Q2 at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. However, due to a technical compliance failure, both Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen were disqualified from the qualifying session and will therefore start the race from the pit lane. Magnussen recorded a retirement at the Monaco Grand Prix for the third consecutive season, exiting on the first lap following a collision with his team-mate and Sergio Perez.

2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

With Kevin Magnussen out in Q2 and Nico Hulkenberg exiting in Q1, 2024 was the first time since 2018 that neither Haas driver qualified in the top ten for the Canadian Grand Prix.

2014 remains the last time that Magnussen scored points at the Canadian Grand Prix. With 12th place, he equalled his best result at the track since then. He last finished in the top 12 here in 2017.

2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

With his 72nd Q1 exit at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen overtook Marcus Ericsson as the driver who has recorded the most Q1 eliminations since the knockout system was introduced at the start of 2006.

2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

With 12th place in qualifying for the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen recorded his best qualifying result of the season to date. On Sunday, Magnussen’s eighth place finish marked his first top eight result since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, where he also finished eighth.

2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen recorded his sixth Q1 exit at Silverstone, equalling Jenson Button as the driver with the most Q1 eliminations at the track. This was Magnussen’s sixth consecutive Q1 exit at the track, having been out in the first part of qualifying at the track on every appearance since 2019.

2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Despite failing to score for a third consecutive season, Kevin Magnussen continued his 100% finish rate at the Hungaroring with his 15th place finish at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. He is only the second driver – after Ralf Schumacher – to make as many as nine appearances at the track without recording a retirement.

2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

For only the second time in 2024 – and for the first time since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix – Kevin Magnussen finished ahead of team-mate Nico Hulkenberg at the 2024 Belgian grand Prix. Magnussen finished 14th, while Hulkenberg was four places further back, in 18th. Magnussen’s 14th place marked Haas’ best result at Spa since 2019, when he finished 12th.

2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Both Kevin Magnussen (15th) and Nico Hulkenberg (14th) recorded their best qualifying results to date at Zandvoort. Magnussen had qualified 18th on his previous two appearances at the track.

2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen made his 139th start with Haas at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, equalling Felipe Massa for sixth in the list of most starts with a single constructor. Massa started 139 races with Ferrari between 2006 and 2013.

With tenth place, Magnussen scored a point for the first time since the Austrian Grand Prix. This was his third points-scoring appearance of the 2024 season. Magnussen’s tenth place marked the first time that Haas ever scored a point at the Italian Grand Prix. Their previous best result here is 11th, last recorded in 2017. This was Magnussen’s second points-scoring race at Monza – and his first at the track in ten years. He also finished tenth in the 2014 Italian Grand Prix.

2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen received two penalty points for a collision with Pierre Gasly during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, putting him on 12 penalty points over the last 12 months – resulting in an automatic race ban. Magnussen was therefore banned from the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, becoming the first driver to be banned under the current penalty points system and the first driver to be banned from a Grand Prix since Romain Grosjean was banned from the 2012 Italian Grand Prix.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Returning after his one-race ban, Kevin Magnussen made his 140th start with Haas at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. That saw him overtake Felipe Massa for sixth in the list of most starts with a single constructor. Massa started 139 races with Ferrari between 2006 and 2013.

Magnussen qualified 14th, failing to reach Q3 at the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time since 2019. Magnussen retired in the closing stages of the race. This was his second DNF of the season – his first since crashing out on the opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix. It was Magnussen’s first retirement in Singapore since 2017, as well as Haas’ first retirement in Singapore since then.

2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen reached Q3 for the first time in the 2024 season at the United States Grand Prix. He last qualified in the top ten at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This was Magnussen’s first Q3 appearance at the United States Grand Prix since 2014. That year, he recorded his best qualifying result at the track to date with eighth place. Magnussen recorded Haas’ first Q3 appearance at Circuit of The Americas since Romain Grosjean progressed to Q3 at the 2018 United States Grand Prix. This is the first time Magnussen has out-qualified Haas team-mate Nico Hulkenberg since the Canadian Grand Prix.

2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

After reaching Q3 for the first time this season last weekend, Kevin Magnussen qualified seventh for the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix. This was Magnussen’s best qualifying result since qualifying sixth for the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix and marked the first time Magnussen qualified in the top ten for two races in a row since the 2022 Austrian and French Grands Prix.

Magnussen finished the race in seventh place. This was his best result since finishing fifth at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. This was Magnussen’s best ever result in Mexico and only the second time that he scored points at the circuit, after finishing eighth in the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix. Magnussen’s points made this the 50th race weekend at which he scored.

2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

After falling ill before the race weekend, Kevin Magnussen sat out the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. He was replaced by Ollie Bearman, as he was when he served his one-race ban at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Returning to the cockpit after his illness in Brazil, Kevin Magnussen finished outside of the points for a second successive year at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. He recorded his best result to date at the track with 12th place – one position better than in 2023.

2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Qualifying tenth for the Qatar Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen reached Q3 for the third time in his last four Grand Prix appearances. This was the Haas team’s first Q3 appearance at the Qatar Grand Prix. With ninth place in the race, Magnussen scored Haas’ first Grand Prix points at Lusail Circuit.

2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Kevin Magnussen made his final Formula 1 appearance at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This was his 145th and final appearance with Haas – sixth on the list of the most starts with a single team. In total, this was Magnussen’s 185th race start.

Qualifying 15th, Magnussen maintained his record of having never reached Q3 at Yas Marina Circuit in his career. This was Magnussen’s worst qualifying result since the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, where he also qualified 15th. Despite that, it was Magnussen’s best qualifying result in Abu Dhabi since 2019, when he also qualified 15th.

On the final lap of his Formula 1 career, Magnussen set the fastest lap of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It was the third fastest lap of his career, having set his other two at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2018 and 2019. Magnussen is now the Lap Record holder at Yas Marina Circuit.
