A STATISTIC FROM EVERY GRAND PRIX

2021 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen missed out on points by only two seconds in the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix. Completing all 56 laps of the race, Raikkonen became the first driver to race 900 laps at Bahrain International Circuit. The Finn also became the first driver to finish fifteen races at the venue.

2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen out-qualified his Alfa Romeo team-mate for the first time since the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. The Finn finished the race in ninth place. It would have made him the second driver to have a gap of over 20 years between their first and last points-scoring appearances in F1 – but a post race penalty dropped him outside of the top ten.

2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX

After colliding with his team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen recorded his first retirement since last year’s season-opening Austrian Grand Prix. Raikkonen’s retirement resulted in the Safety Car being deployed. It was the first time a Safety Car had been deployed in a Portuguese Grand Prix.

2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Qualifying in seventeenth place, Kimi Raikkonen recorded his first Q1 exit at the Spanish Grand Prix since 2009. This was the Finn’s worst qualifying attempt at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya since he qualified 20th at the 2003 Spanish Grand Prix. Finishing the race in twelfth place, Raikkonen gained five positions – the most of any driver. Raikkonen’s twelfth place was his best Spanish Grand Prix result since finishing as runner-up in 2016.

2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX

With eleventh place, Kimi Raikkonen equalled his best result of the 2021 season. He also finished eleventh in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. The Finn completed 77 laps of the race, putting him two laps short of equalling Graham Hill’s record of most laps raced at the Monaco Grand Prix. Along with Lewis Hamilton, Raikkonen extended the record of most finishes at the Monaco Grand Prix to fourteen.

2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen lost his 100% Q3 appearance record at Baku City Circuit, but scored his first point of the 2021 season on Sunday. It was the first time Raikkonen scored since the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as well as the second consecutive Azerbaijan race in which he has finished tenth.

2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen started where he finished in the 2021 French Grand Prix. Seventeenth was his worst qualifying result of the year to date, and also the furthest back position in which he has finished a Grand Prix without retiring. He also finished seventeenth at the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix and the 2020 British Grand Prix. Raikkonen made his 162nd appearance in car number 7. It saw him equal former team-mate Romain Grosjean as the driver to have made the most starts with a single car number. Grosjean made 162 appearances in car number 8 during his career.

2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX

On the day that he set a new record as the driver to have started the most races with a single car number, and a new record for the driver with the most starts in Austria, Kimi Raikkonen saw the chequered flag in Austria for a ninth time, equalling John Watson’s record as the driver with the most finishes in the country. Raikkonen gained seven places from his grid slot to finish the race in eleventh. It’s the most positions he has gained in a race at the circuit.

2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

On Lap 8 of the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen became the first driver to have raced 700 laps in Austria. Despite crashing with Sebastian Vettel at the end of the race, Raikkonen crossed the line and – along with Sergio Perez – broke John Watson’s record of most finishes in Austria. On Saturday, Raikkonen became the first driver to record five Q1 exits at the Red Bull Ring.

2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen finished Sprint Qualifying in 13th place; his best qualifying result of the year so far – but he was the only driver to finish the race in a position lower than where he started. However, it was a record breaking weekend for the Finn, who became the first driver to race at a single circuit on twenty occasions. The 2021 British Grand Prix was Raikkonen’s 20th appearance at Silverstone, and he has now raced over 1,000 laps at the circuit. Only Rubens Barrichello has toured the track more times. While Raikkonen has completed 1,036 laps, Barrichello’s total is 1,049.

2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

After equalling his best qualifying result of the year with thirteenth place – this being the second race in a row at which he has qualified thirteenth – Kimi Raikkonen finished on the road in eleventh place, but was promoted into the points following Vettel’s disqualification. With both Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen scoring, this was the first race in which two drivers over the age of 40 have scored in over 50 years. Jack Brabham and Graham Hill both scored points over the age of 40 at the 1970 British Grand Prix.

2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen was classified in eighteenth place in the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix – his lowest ever finishing result in a race which he has finished. He has three previous seventeenth places, but has never finished as low as eighteenth before.

2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

After testing positive for coronavirus on Saturday, Kimi Raikkonen was forced to miss the remainder of the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix weekend. That made this race the first time that he did not start since recording a DNS at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, and the first race for which he did not qualify since the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix.

2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX

After missing the last two races due to testing positive for coronavirus, Kimi Raikkonen finished the Russian Grand Prix in eighth place. It was the third time he has scored in 2021 – and his best result since his fourth place finish at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix. This was the first time Raikkonen has scored at the Russian Grand Prix since 2018.

2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen qualified only nineteenth for the Turkish Grand Prix, equalling his worst qualifying result of the 2021 season to date. He also qualified nineteenth at the Belgian Grand Prix. This was the first time that Raikkonen has not qualified in the top eight at the event.

2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen qualified only eighteenth for the United States Grand Prix. It’s his worst qualifying result at Circuit of The Americas. Raikkonen’s result means that an Alfa Romeo driver has now qualified in eighteenth place for all of the last five races. Raikkonen’s Q1 exit took the former Sauber team’s total of Q1 eliminations to 200 since the system was introduced in 2006.

2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

With twelfth place in qualifying, Kimi Raikkonen recorded his best Saturday result of the seasons so far. In the race, Raikkonen equalled his best result of the season, finishing in eighth place. He also finished eighth at the Russian Grand Prix.

2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

For the first time in seventeen appearances at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen failed to set one of the ten fastest times in qualifying. With twelfth place in the race, Raikkonen failed to score at the Brazilian Grand Prix for the first time since 2016, when he crashed out. This was the first time that Raikkonen has finished a race at Interlagos but failed to score.

2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen has now out-qualified his team-mate at all of the last three races. The last time he out-qualified Antonio Giovinazzi at three races in a row was between the 2020 Portuguese and Turkish Grands Prix.

2021 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen qualified in twelfth place, equalling his best qualifying result of the season. He also qualified twelfth for the Mexico City Grand Prix.

2021 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

On his final race weekend, Kimi Raikkonen qualified in eighteenth place. It was his third consecutive Q1 exit at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as well as his worst ever qualifying result at Yas Marina Circuit. Raikkonen was the first driver to retire from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, bringing an end to his Formula 1 career. He became the first driver to record three DNFs at the event.
