2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
With sixth place, Lando Norris recorded his best Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying result to date, having had a previous best qualifying result of seventh in 2021. 2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris made his 107th start with McLaren at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, equalling Alain Prost as the driver to have made the fifth-most starts with the team.
After qualifying fourth on the grid – equalling his best qualifying result to date at Albert Park and maintaining his record of always out-qualifying his team-mate in Melbourne – Norris finished in third place. As a result, he overtook Nick Heidfeld at the top of the list of most podium finishes without winning a Grand Prix.
Norris’ podium made 2024 the 30th consecutive season in which a Mercedes-powered car has finished in the top three. Recording the 23rd podium finish for a British driver at the track, Norris’ third place finish saw Britain set a new outright record for the most podium finishes for a nation at Albert Park, moving clear of Germany.
2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris made his 108th start with McLaren at the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, overtaking Alain Prost as the driver to have made the fifth-most starts with the team.
Norris recorded McLaren’s best qualifying result of the season to date at Suzuka with third place. It was Norris’ best qualifying result since he qualified on the front row at the 2023 United States Grand Prix. Norris also qualified third for the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix.
Norris finished fifth in the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, recording a second consecutive top five finish.
2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX
After securing pole for the Sprint at the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix. Norris became the first McLaren driver since Lewis Hamilton in 2012 to qualify in the top three for the Chinese Grand Prix itself. Norris recorded his first Chinese Grand Prix podium result on Sunday, extending the record for most podium finishes without a win. It was the first time he crossed the finish line in a Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit, having retired on Lap 1 in 2019.
Norris’ podium finish saw Britain overtake Germany to become the outright record holder as the nation with the most podium finishes at the Chinese Grand Prix. This was the 14th podium for a British driver in Shanghai.
2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX
On the weekend that he equalled Lewis Hamilton as the driver to have made the fourth most starts with McLaren, Lando Norris became a Grand Prix winner. Taking victory in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, Norris became the first driver to take his maiden win in the United States since Michele Alboreto at the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix. Norris became the 21st different British driver to win a Grand Prix, extending the record for most different drivers from a nation to win a race.
Norris equalled the record for the most podium finishes before a first win. The record is now shared between five drivers who all won for the first time on their 16th podium appearance: Patrick Depailler, Jean Alesi, Mika Hakkinen, Eddie Irvine and Norris. Norris’ victory meant that Nick Heidfeld took back the record for most podium finishes without a win.
This was McLaren’s first victory in the United States since Lewis Hamilton won the 2012 United States Grand Prix – the inaugural race at Circuit of The Americas. This was the first time that Norris – or McLaren – scored a point in a Grand Prix at Miami International Autodrome.
Norris won the 2024 Miami Grand Prix from fifth on the grid. It was the 49th win in total from fifth on the grid – and the first since Sergio Perez recorded his first victory at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. Winning on his 110th attempt, Norris equalled Giancarlo Fisichella for eighth in the list of most race starts before a first Grand Prix victory.
Norris’ win made 2024 the 28th season in which a Mercedes engine has won in Formula 1. That sees Mercedes equal Renault for second on the list of most years in which an engine manufacturer has won.
2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
With Lando Norris having won the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was the first to feature as many as 12 Grand Prix winners on the grid since the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Before the 2022 Abu Dhabi race, the last event to feature as many as 12 winners on the grid was the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix.
With team-mate Oscar Piastri picking up a grid penalty, Norris moved up to the front row: the first front row start for a McLaren driver at Imola since Kimi Raikkonen started from pole position at the 2005 San Marino Grand Prix. Setting the third fastest time in Q3, Norris equalled his best qualifying result of the season to date. Moving up to second on the grid, this was Norris’ first front row start for a Grand Prix since the 2023 United States Grand Prix.
Lando Norris finished on the podium for a third consecutive Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. He was voted Driver Of The Day for a third consecutive race, equalling the record for most consecutive Driver Of The Day wins. Norris recorded McLaren’s best result at Imola since Kimi Raikkonen finished as runner-up in the 2003 San Marino Grand Prix.
Both scoring points for the fourth time in four appearances, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc usurped Didier Pironi as the drivers who’ve made the most starts at Imola without ever failing to score a point.
2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX
With fourth place, Lando Norris qualified in the top five for a sixth consecutive Grand Prix. It also marked his best Monaco Grand Prix qualifying result to date. Norris also finished the race fourth, ending a streak of three consecutive podium finishes. Nevertheless, this was his sixth consecutive top five finish.
During the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, Norris overtook Mika Hakkinen as the driver who has raced the third most Grand Prix laps with McLaren. It is now an all-British top three in that particular list, with only David Coulthard and Jenson Button sitting ahead of Norris.
2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris equalled his best qualifying result of the season so far with third place at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix. This was the first time Norris qualified in the top six in Canada.
Finishing as runner-up, Lando Norris recorded his fourth podium finish in the last five races and his first podium finish at the Canadian Grand Prix. Norris’ podium and Oscar Piastri’s fifth place finish marked the first time that McLaren scored any points at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2014. Norris’ podium was McLaren’s first in Montreal since Lewis Hamilton’s 2012 victory, while this was the first time the team finished with both cars in the top five at the track since their 1-2 finish in 2010.
2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
1,000 days since he last started a Grand Prix from pole position, Lando Norris secured the second pole of his career at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. Norris’ first pole position came at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix – though he has taken pole for two Sprint events since then. Norris secured pole position by 0.020 seconds – the second smallest pole margin in Catalunya’s history on the Formula 1 calendar. Norris secured McLaren’s first Spanish Grand Prix pole since 2005, when Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest lap time.
Norris finished as runner-up to Max Verstappen, making this the fifth time in the last six races that Verstappen was joined in the top two by Norris. Norris’ second place finish marked the first time that he has finished in the top seven at the Spanish Grand Prix. As a result of his second place finish, Norris moved up to second place in the Drivers’ Championship – the highest he has ever sat in the standings.
Norris’ podium finish marked the first time that a team other than Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari finished on the podium at the Spanish Grand Prix since 2013. It was McLaren’s first podium at the Spanish Grand Prix since 2011, when both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button finished in the top three.
2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Having taken pole at the Spanish Grand Prix, Lando Norris qualified in second place for the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix. It was the first time in Norris’ career that he recorded consecutive front row qualifications. Norris equalled his best qualifying result at the Red Bull Ring, having also qualified on the front row at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix.
As a result of his collision with Max Verstappen, Norris failed to finish the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix. The closing laps of the race were the first Grand Prix laps in 2024 which a McLaren driver failed to complete. This was Norris’ first DNF since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix – though he did fail to finish the Sprint at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix.
This was the first time in his eight appearances at the Red Bull Ring that Norris failed to score a point. Norris had never previously finished outside of the top seven here. Norris’ retirement brought an end to an 11-race scoring streak for the British driver. It means that Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell took over as the drivers with the longest active scoring streaks, having scored in all of the last eight Grands Prix.
2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
With Lando Norris third, behind the two Mercedes drivers, three British drivers qualified in the top three positions for the 2024 British Grand Prix. It was the first time that three British drivers qualified in the top three since the 1968 South African Grand Prix. Norris maintained his record of out-qualifying his team-mate on every appearance at the track to date.
Recording his sixth podium finish in the last eight races, Norris finished on the last step of the podium for the first time since the Australian Grand Prix. Norris’ podium finish made this the first time that McLaren scored as many as eight podiums in a row since finishing on the podium at all 13 races between the 2011 German Grand Prix and the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix. With both Lewis Hamilton and Norris on the podium, Britain became the first nation to record 50 podium finishes at Silverstone.
2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris secured pole position for the third time in his career at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris secured pole by 0.022 seconds – the third smallest pole margin in Hungarian Grand Prix history. This was the third successive year in which pole at the Hungaroring has been decided by less than half a tenth of a second. Norris continued his record of out-qualifying his team-mate on all six Hungaroring appearances to date.
This was McLaren’s ninth pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix. That saw them equal Mercedes as the constructor with the most poles at the Hungaroring. Norris recorded McLaren’s first pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in Q3 in 2012. This was the 13th pole position for a British driver at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Britain moves clear of Germany at the top of the list of nations with the most pole positions at the Hungaroring.
Norris finished as runner-up to his team-mate at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, meaning McLaren recorded their first 1-2 finish since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. This was McLaren’s third 1-2 finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, after 1988 and 1999.
Norris became the seventh Hungarian Grand Prix polesitter to fail to win the race in the last 11 seasons. This was the fifth consecutive Grand Prix in 2024 that the polesitter failed to win. It was the first time that the polesitter has failed to win five races in a row since the polesitter failed to win all six races between the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix and the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix.
2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
With fifth place, Lando Norris ended a streak of seven consecutive top four qualifying results at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix. This was the first time Norris qualified as low as fifth on the grid since the Miami Grand Prix. He continued his streak of qualifying in the top five at all of the last 12 races. Fifth is Norris’ best ever qualifying result at the Belgian Grand Prix. His previous best was seventh place, recorded in 2023.
Norris’ fifth place finish in the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix marked the first time he finished a race – excluding his DNF in Austria – outside of the top four since the Japanese Grand Prix in early April. This was Norris’ best ever result at the Belgian Grand Prix, having had a previous best result of seventh, recorded in both 2020 and 2023.
2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris secured the second victory of his Formula 1 career at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. He secured the full 26 points for his victory, having set the fastest lap on the final lap of the race. Norris won the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix by 22.896 seconds – the largest winning margin of the season to date, beating Max Verstappen’s 22.457 second victory margin at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. This was the largest winning margin at Zandvoort since 1969.
This was McLaren’s first Dutch Grand Prix victory in exactly 39 years. Norris’ win at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix came 39 years to the day since Niki Lauda secured his final F1 victory with McLaren at Zandvoort in 1985. This was McLaren’s fourth win in total at the Dutch Grand Prix. Norris is the first McLaren driver to win a Grand Prix from pole position since Lewis Hamilton did so at the 2012 Italian Grand Prix. Norris became the first polesitter to win since Charles Leclerc took victory at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix back in May. This was Norris’ first top six finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Norris’ victory was the second at Zandvoort for a Mercedes-powered car. The last was in 1955, when Juan Manuel Fangio won the Dutch Grand Prix with Mercedes.
Norris’s win came one day after he secured the fourth pole of his Formula 1 career. Norris secured McLaren’s second pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix – the team’s first at the track since Alain Prost secured pole here in 1984. This was Norris’ third pole position in the last six races, having taken one pole in his prior 113 appearances.
2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris secured the fifth pole position of his Formula 1 career at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. Norris became the 53rd driver to record as many as five pole positions in Formula 1. This was the first time Norris qualified in the top three at Monza. Having also taken pole at Zandvoort seven days ago, Norris took pole positions at consecutive races for the first time in his career. He became the first McLaren driver to qualify on pole position at successive races since Lewis Hamilton at the 2012 Singapore and Italian Grands Prix. This was McLaren’s 160th pole in total, becoming the second team to reach that milestone after Ferrari, who did so over 21 years previously at the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris finished on the podium for the ninth time in the last 12 races. Norris was the first McLaren driver to finish third at the Italian Grand Prix since Mika Hakkinen in 1996.
For the second consecutive race, he set the fastest lap of the race. Norris’ fastest lap was 0.386 seconds away from the Lap Record at Monza, set by Rubens Barrichello in the 2004 Italian Grand Prix.
Norris maintained his record of having never led at the end of the first lap any time he has taken pole position. This was the fifth consecutive season in which the polesitter did not win the Italian Grand Prix.
2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris was the surprise elimination in Q1 at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with a yellow flag preventing him from improving his lap time. This was the sixth Q1 exit of his career – his first since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This was the first time since the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that Norris qualified outside of the top five positions. Norris had never previously qualified outside of the top 11 positions in Baku. Norris’ Q1 exit ended McLaren’s 100% Q3 appearance rate in 2024. It means that Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri are now the only drivers who’ve qualified in the top ten at every race in 2024.
McLaren had never finished in the top four at Baku City Circuit prior to 2024. With Oscar Piastri winning and Norris finishing fourth, McLaren finished with both cars in the top four. Norris set the fastest lap for the tenth time in his career – and did so for a third consecutive race. It was the 35th time in Formula 1 that a driver set the fastest lap at three consecutive races. Norris made up 11 places in the race – the most he’s gained in a single race since moving up 12 positions in the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.
2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
For the third time in the last four races, Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. This was the sixth pole of Norris’ career, placing him 47th in Formula 1’s all-time list of pole positions. Norris secured McLaren’s third pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton took the team’s first two poles at the track, in 2009 and 2012. This was the fifth pole position for a British driver at the Singapore Grand Prix. Britain equalled Germany as the nation with the most poles at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Norris’ pole was the first time he qualified in the top three at the Singapore Grand Prix.
On Sunday, Norris claimed the third victory of his Formula 1 career. Norris became the fifth different winner of the Singapore Grand Prix in the last five years that it has been held. Overall, the is the seventh different driver to have won at Marina Bay Street Circuit. This was the 24th podium finish of Norris’ career, seeing him equal Stirling Moss, John Surtees and Alan Jones for 44th on the all-time podium list. Norris’ win saw Britain equal Germany as the nation to have had the most top three finishes at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix was the sixth pole position of Norris’ career and marked the first time that he led at the end of Lap 1 having started from the front of the grid. Norris became the 60th driver to have led every single lap in a Grand Prix in World Championship history.
Norris won the race by 20.945 seconds – the second largest winning margin of the 2024 season and the second largest winning margin at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Sebastian Vettel won by 32.627 seconds in 2013.
2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
For the fourth time in the last five races, Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2024 United States Grand Prix. Norris recorded the seventh pole position of his career, equalling Jacques Laffite for 41st on the all-time list of of most poles in Formula 1.
This was McLaren’s first ever pole position at Circuit of The Americas, as well as the team’s first pole position at the United States Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton secured pole for the 2007 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Norris’ pole was the 300th pole position for a British driver in Formula 1 and the fourth time that a British driver took pole position at Circuit of The Americas. It saw Britain equal Germany for the most pole positions at the venue. Norris became the sixth different driver in the last six races at Circuit of The Americas to take pole position, extending the record for the longest streak of different polesitters at the track.
Norris started from pole position but ended Lap 1 in fourth place. The 2024 United States Grand Prix was the sixth time in the last seven races that the polesitter did not lead at the end of Lap 1 at Circuit of The Americas. Norris became the first polesitter to complete the first lap in a position outside of the top three since Lewis Hamilton ran fourth at the end of Lap 1 in the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Norris ran in the top three at the end of the race but a five-second time penalty after being judged to have left the track and gained an advantage dropped him to fourth in the final order. In the last 17 races, Norris’ DNF in Austria is the only time that he has not finished in the top five. Norris was the only driver to maintain his 100% points-finishing rate at COTA – though Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto joined Norris in the club of drivers who’ve scored on every appearance at the track.
2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Despite being fastest in Q2, Lando Norris failed to take pole position for the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix. 2024 was the ninth consecutive year that the fastest driver in Q2 in Mexico did not take pole position. Norris reached Q3 for the 100th time in his career, becoming the 16th driver to record 100 Q3 appearances since the current qualifying system was introduced in 2006. This was the first time Norris qualified in the top seven for the Mexico City Grand Prix and the first time that a McLaren driver qualified in the top three in Mexico since Ayrton Senna qualified third for the 1991 Mexican Grand Prix.
On Sunday, Norris recorded his first podium finish at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. He had never previously finished in the top four at the track. In the race, both Carlos Sainz and Norris recorded their 25th podium finishes in Formula 1, becoming the 44th and 45th drivers to record as many as 25 top three finishes.
Norris recorded McLaren’s first top three finish in Mexico since Ayrton Senna finished third in the 1991 Mexican Grand Prix. It was the team’s best result here since their last win at the track, in 1989. McLaren became the first team other than Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari to finish on the podium in Mexico since Williams in 2015.
2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
In a heavily interrupted and much delayed Sunday morning qualifying session, Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. This was the eighth pole position of Norris’ career and the sixth time he took pole in the last nine races. This was McLaren’s tenth pole in total at Interlagos – their first at the track since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Having started from pole position, Norris finished sixth in the race. He became the first Interlagos polesitter to fail to finish on the podium since 2012, when Lewis Hamilton retired from the race. That was the last time prior to 2024 that a McLaren driver took pole at the track. This was the first time Norris finished outside of the top five since his retirement at the Austrian Grand Prix.
2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Finishing tenth in the race after serving a ten-second stop/go penalty, Norris recorded his worst result to date at Lusail Circuit. This was the first time Norris failed to finish in the top six since retiring from the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix as well as the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that he has finished outside of the top six in a race that he has crossed the finish line.
Norris set the fastest lap at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, becoming the first driver other than Max Verstappen to secure the fastest lap in the Qatar Grand Prix. Norris set a new Lap Record at the Qatar Grand Prix, 0.812 seconds faster than Verstappen’s previous record.
2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This was the ninth pole position of Norris’ Formula 1 career. He is the 37th driver to have taken as many as nine poles in F1. No driver has ever ended their career on exactly nine poles.
Norris recorded his eighth pole position of the season, equalling Max Verstappen as the driver who has taken the most pole positions in 2024. This is the 36th time that a driver has taken as many as eight poles in a single year. 2024 is the 11th season in which McLaren have recorded as many as eight pole positions, having last done so in 2012.
Norris claimed his fourth victory of the season at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This was Norris’ first top four result at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He became the 60th driver to have won as many as four Grands Prix. Norris’ win made McLaren the first team to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix other than Red Bull or Mercedes since Kimi Raikkonen won for Lotus in 2012. His top three finish also made McLaren the first team other than Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari to finish on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix podium since Williams did so with both drivers in 2014.
This was the second race, after the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, which Norris led from start to end. He is the 34th driver to have led multiple Grands Prix from start to finish. The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Norris’ 100th points-scoring Grand Prix from his 128 starts to date. It was his 102nd points-scoring weekend, however, as he scored points in the Sprint at the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix and the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix without scoring in the Grand Prix itself.
2024 is the tenth consecutive season in which the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix polesitter won the race, tying the record for the most consecutive wins from pole at a single circuit. The Spanish Grand Prix was won from pole at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for ten consecutive seasons from 2001 to 2010.
