Red Bull were victorious at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, both Williams drivers started in the top six and five current teams appeared on the grid at the Caesars Palace Grand Prix back in the 1980s. Here’s everything you need to know about each team’s history at the Las Vegas Grand Prix!
RED BULL
WINS: 1, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 2 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: VERSTAPPEN 1st, PEREZ 3rd
Red Bull made history at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Max Verstappen won the inaugural race on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, which saw Red Bull become the first team in Formula 1 history to win 20 Grands Prix in a single season.
Verstappen won having started third on the grid. Sergio Perez had recorded a disappointing Q2 exit but recovered from 11th on the grid to finish on the podium. The Mexican even led some laps of the race before falling back behind his team-mate and being overtaken by Charles Leclerc in the final sector of the final lap.
MERCEDES
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: HAMILTON 7th, RUSSELL 8th
Mercedes finished seventh and eighth in the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton ahead of George Russell in the final order despite the 7-time World Champion having been eliminated in Q2.
Russell had finished ahead of Hamilton on track, but a five second time penalty following contact with Max Verstappen dropped car 63 to eighth in the final order. Russell had performed well in qualifying, setting the fourth fastest lap time and moving up to third on the final grid.
Hamilton drove from tenth on the grid to seventh at the chequered flag despite suffering a puncture following contact with Oscar Piastri during the race.
FERRARI
WINS: 0, POLES: 1, PODIUMS: 1 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: LECLERC 2nd, SAINZ 6th
Ferrari were present on the grid when Formula 1 previously raced in Las Vegas for the Caesars Palace Grand Prix back in 1981 and 1982. They failed to pick up any points in either of the two races, with only one of their four entries resulting in a driver crossing the finish line. Didier Pironi finished ninth in the 1981 Caesars Palace Grand Prix.
Ferrari’s bad luck in Sin City continued on the opening day of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend. Carlos Sainz hit a water valve cover, destroying the floor of his car. The Spaniard was handed a 10-place penalty as a result of damage to his power unit, which many – including rival teams – felt was unfair.
Despite the setback, Ferrari showed good pace in the remaining Free Practice sessions and qualifying, in which they set the fastest two lap times. Charles Leclerc secured pole position for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, while Sainz was demoted to 12th on the final grid.
Leclerc was passed by Max Verstappen at the opening corner in the Saturday night race but remained within touching distance and eventually re-passed the Red Bull. Leclerc ran third, behind the Red Bulls, until the final lap, on which he overtook Sergio Perez for second place. Sainz, meanwhile, was caught up in the midfield melee at Turn 1 but recovered to finish sixth.
McLAREN
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: PIASTRI 10th, NORRIS DNF
In their two appearances at the 1981 and 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix, neither McLaren driver qualified in the top five in Las Vegas. The team did score a podium finish in 1982, however, with John Watson finishing as runner-up to Tyrrell’s Michele Alboreto.
Oscar Piastri set the second-fastest lap time in final practice for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix but that pace did not translate into qualifying. Piastri qualified on the back row, while Lando Norris also exited in Q1.
On Saturday, Norris crashed out on the third lap of the race in a heavy impact which resulted in a hospital visit for the British driver. Piastri, meanwhile, was able to make progress from his poor starting position and set the fastest lap of the race on his way to a tenth place finish.
ASTON MARTIN
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: STROLL 5th, ALONSO 9th
While Lance Stroll was out in Q2 and demoted five positions on the grid to the back row for ignoring yellow flags, Fernando Alonso reached Q3 at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Spaniard qualified tenth and moved up to ninth on the grid.
A spin at the first corner dented Alonso’s chances of making progress and he finished where he started, in ninth place. Stroll, meanwhile, made up for his qualifying performance and made up 14 places over the course of the race to finish in fifth on a double points night for Aston Martin.
ALPINE
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: OCON 4th, GASLY 11th
If you trace Alpine’s roots back to the very start, you get to Toleman. The team began their Formula 1 journey in 1981 – the year in which the first Caesars Palace Grand Prix took place. The team appeared at the event in both 1981 and 1982 but failed to finish in either race. Teo Fabi (in 1981) and Brian Henton (in 1982) failed to qualify, while Derek Warwick retired from both races.
Flash forward 41 years and the team had a much more fruitful weekend under their Alpine guise at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Though Esteban Ocon was eliminated in Q1, Pierre Gasly qualified an impressive fifth and moved up to fourth on the final grid.
In the race, it was Ocon who had the luck. Gasly fell out of the points and finished 11th, while Ocon was able to gain 12 positions from 16th on the grid to finish fourth.
WILLIAMS
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: ALBON 12th, SARGEANT 16th
Williams have one previous win in Las Vegas, with Alan Jones having won the inaugural Caesars Palace Grand Prix in 1981; a race for which the team locked out the front row. Keke Rosberg and Derek Daly both scored for the team in the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix, finishing fifth and sixth.
Williams enjoyed their strongest combined qualifying showing of the 2023 season at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Alex Albon recovered from a crash in Free Practice 3 to qualify in sixth, one position ahead of Logan Sargeant, who enjoyed a season-best qualifying result.
The duo moved up to fifth and sixth on the grid as a result of Carlos Sainz’s grid penalty, but both fell out of the points-scoring positions as the race progressed. Albon finished 12th, with Sargeant crossing the line 16th.

The Red Bull junior team (then named AlphaTauri) endured a pace-less weekend at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda were eliminated in Q1, with Tsunoda setting the 20th and slowest lap time.
Ricciardo moved up two positions on the final grid to start 14th and that would be where he finished. Tsunoda failed to reach the end of the race, retiring in the closing stages with gearbox problems.
SAUBER
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: ZHOU 15th, BOTTAS 17th
2024 will be the first appearance for the Sauber name at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with the team having competed under the Alfa Romeo name in 2023.
Though Valtteri Bottas reached Q3 for Alfa Romeo, qualifying eighth and starting seventh, neither he nor Zhou Guanyu were able to score points in the race. Zhou finished ahead of Bottas, with the duo coming home 15th and 17th.
HAAS
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX RESULT: MAGNUSSEN 13th, HULKENBERG DNF
On their third home race appearance of 2023, Haas failed to pick up any points at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Kevin Magnussen made a Q3 appearance in qualifying and started eighth on the grid but dropped back during the race and finished 13th.
On the other side of the garage, Nico Hulkenberg started 13th and retired in the closing stages, pulling off at Turn 14 with engine issues
