2022 Bahrain Grand Prix
With his 183rd podium finish, Lewis Hamilton became the first driver to record top three finishes in sixteen consecutive seasons. Hamilton also became the first driver to score points in 250 Grands Prix. Having recorded 103 wins, this was the 80th time that Hamilton has stood on the podium having not won the race. Only Kimi Raikkonen has had as many second and third places as Hamilton. Hamilton also equalled Raikkonen’s record of fifteen finishes at Bahrain International Circuit.
2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton was unable to reach Q2 at the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It was the first time that he was eliminated in Q1 since the 2017 Brazilian Grand Prix, as well as the first time he failed to reach Q3 since the 2018 German Grand Prix. This was only the ninth Q1 elimination of Hamilton’s career. The last time he was eliminated in Q1 on pure pace alone with no other contributing factors was at the 2009 British Grand Prix. Hamilton finished tenth for only the third time in his career. He also finished tenth at the 2008 French Grand Prix and the 2012 South Korean Grand Prix.
2022 Australian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth place, making this the first time since his 2014 retirement that he has not finished on the podium at the Australian Grand Prix.
2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton finished in 13th place for the third time in his F1 career. He also finished 13th at the 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix and the 2009 Turkish Grand Prix. On Lap 33 of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Hamilton overtook Rubens Barrichello as the driver to have raced the fourth-most laps in Formula 1 history. Hamilton’s total of laps raced now stands at 16,662.
2022 Miami Grand Prix
For the first time at any United States race he’s competed in, Lewis Hamilton failed to qualify in the top five on the grid and failed to finish in the top four. Hamilton qualified sixth and finished where he started.
2022 Spanish Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton set a new outright record for most Q3 appearances at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya but with sixth place, he recorded his worst Spanish Grand Prix qualifying result since 2009. For the first time since 2016, Hamilton failed to win the Spanish Grand Prix. He finished in fifth place. Following Charles Leclerc’s retirement, Hamilton now has the longest active finishing streak. He has finished every race since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix.
2022 Monaco Grand Prix
With eighth place, Lewis Hamilton recorded his worst Monaco Grand Prix result since finishing 12th in 2009. On Lap 42 of the Monaco Grand Prix, Hamilton passed Michael Schumacher for third place in the all-time list of most laps raced in Formula 1. Hamilton became the first driver to record 14 top ten finishes in Monaco as well as the first driver to reach the chequered flag at the track on 15 occasions.
2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth place at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, recording his fifth top five finish in the six races at Baku City Circuit. This was the first race in Azerbaijan in which Lewis Hamilton has not led a lap since the inaugural event in 2016.
2022 Canadian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton recorded his best qualifying result of the season to date with fourth place and returned to the podium for the first time since the Bahrain Grand Prix. That ended a podium drought of seven races; his longest such drought since ten podium-less races between the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix and the 2009 German Grand Prix. With his 33rd third place finish, Hamilton equals Sebastian Vettel for second on the all-time list of most third place finishes in Formula 1. Only Kimi Raikkonen, on 45, sits ahead of them.
2022 British Grand Prix
At the 2022 British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton overtook Jack Brabham as the driver to have had the tenth longest Formula 1 career. For the first time since 2014, Hamilton failed to qualify on the front row at the British Grand Prix. He went on to finish in third place, becoming the first driver to take 13 podium finishes at a single circuit. This was the tenth consecutive Silverstone race in which Hamilton has finished on the podium. The 2022 British Grand Prix is the first time since 2013 that Hamilton has not finished in the top two positions at Silverstone.
Failing to win for an eleventh successive race, this is the first time that Hamilton has gone 11 races without a win in his 15-year Formula 1 career. Leading eight laps of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton became the first driver to have led a lap in 16 consecutive Formula 1 seasons.
Setting the Fastest Lap for the 60th time in his career, Hamilton became the first driver to set 60 Fastest Laps with a single engine manufacturer. He equalled Nigel Mansell’s record of six Fastest Laps at the Silverstone circuit. This was Hamilton’s 16th points-scoring appearance at the Silverstone circuit, overtaking Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to have scored on the most occasions at the venue.
2022 Austrian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton finished in third place for the third race in a row. This was the first time Hamilton has finished 3rd at three consecutive races since the 2012 Australian, Malaysian and Chinese Grands Prix. This was his sixth podium finish in Austria, but it’s the first time he has finished on the final step of the podium at the venue. With his tenth top ten finish in Austria, Hamilton overtook John Watson as the driver with the most top ten finishes in the country.
2022 French Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton became the sixth driver to have started 300 races at the 2022 French Grand Prix. On Saturday, Hamilton equalled his best qualifying result of the season with fourth place. This was the first time that Hamilton has not qualified on the front row at Circuit Paul Ricard. With second place in the race, Hamilton recorded his best result of the season to date. This was his fifth podium in 2022. Hamilton continues his record of never finishing outside of the top two at Circuit Paul Ricard.
2022 Hungarian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton led four laps of the Hungarian Grand Prix, taking his total number of laps led at the Hungaroring to 487. That saw him break Bill Vukovich’s 67 year old record of most laps led at a single circuit. Vukovich led 485 laps at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the Indianapolis 500 was a round of the World Championship between 1950 and 1960.
Hamilton became the first driver to have finished as runner-up on 50 occasions in his Formula 1 career.
Hamilton’s second place made him the fourth driver to have a gap of 300 races between their first and last podium finishes. Fernando Alonso (355), Michael Schumacher (347) and Kimi Raikkonen (314) are the only other drivers with more than 300 races between their first and last podium results.
2022 Belgian Grand Prix
The 2022 Belgian Grand Prix was the 14th time that Lewis Hamilton qualified in the top ten at Spa. He overtook Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to have qualified in the top ten on the most occasions at the venue.
On Sunday, Hamilton was the first driver to retire from the Belgian Grand Prix. This was his first retirement of the year and he became the last of 2022’s full-time drivers to record a DNF. Hamilton’s retirement ended a 21 race streak of consecutive finishes for the Mercedes driver, the third longest finishing streak of his career. This was the third time that Hamilton has retired on the opening lap at Spa. He set a new record of most first lap retirements at the venue. Hamilton was previously out on the opening lap at the Belgian Grand Prix in 2009 and 2012. 2022 was the first year in which Hamilton did not finish on the podium at the Belgian Grand Prix since he last retired from the event in 2014.
2022 Dutch Grand Prix
Qualifying fourth, Lewis Hamilton equalled his best qualifying result of the season to date. He also qualified fourth at the Canadian and French Grands Prix. Leading 14 laps of the race, Hamilton became the 30th driver to have led a lap at the Dutch Grand Prix in its World Championship history.
2022 Italian Grand Prix
This was the first time that Hamilton started a race from the back row of the grid since the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix. Hamilton gained 14 positions over the course of the race – the most he has gained since the 2017 Brazilian Grand Prix, in which he moved up 16 positions from his starting spot. Hamilton made this the third time in the last four Monza races that the driver starting 19th has picked up points. Finishing in fifth place, he became the first driver to have scored 200 points at the Monza circuit, despite not finishing on the podium at any of the last three Monza races.
2022 Singapore Grand Prix
Qualifying in third place, Lewis Hamilton secured his best qualifying result of the 2022 season to date. Hamilton finished the Singapore Grand Prix in ninth place, which is his lowest finishing position at a Singapore Grand Prix in which he has reached the chequered flag. Having started third, Hamilton becomes the first driver starting third at the Singapore Grand Prix to fail to finish on the podium since 2013.
2022 Japanese Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton equalled Jenson Button as the British driver to have made the most F1 starts at the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix, also equalling Button and Michael Schumacher for fifth in the all-time list of most starts. Hamilton qualified in sixth place, which is his worst qualifying result at Suzuka since 2012. He finished in fifth place, failing to finish on the podium at the Japanese Grand Prix for the first time since 2013.
2022 United States Grand Prix
At the 2022 United States Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton overtook Jenson Button as the British driver to have made the most F1 starts. He also overtook Button and Michael Schumacher for fifth in the all-time list of most starts.
In the race, Hamilton equalled his best result of the 2022 season, finishing as runner-up to Max Verstappen. It was the 32nd race in which the duo recorded a 1-2 finish, overtaking Hamilton and Rosberg as the driver pairing to have recorded the most 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. This was the third consecutive United States Grand Prix in which Hamilton has finished as runner-up.
Hamilton became the first driver to record ten podium finishes at the United States Grand Prix and remains the only driver to have completed every lap ever raced at Circuit of The Americas since the track joined the calendar in 2012. Hamilton crossed the finish line for the 278th time, equalling Kimi Raikkonen for second in the all-time list of most races at which a driver has crossed the finish line.
2022 Mexico City Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton recorded his 190th podium finish. This was his fifth podium in Mexico City, making him the first driver to finish in the top three on five occasions in Mexico. This was the first time Hamilton has finished on the podium in consecutive races since his streak of five top three finishes between the Canadian and Hungarian Grands Prix. Finishing as runner-up for the third time in Mexico, Hamilton equalled Jack Brabham as the driver to have finished second on the most occasions at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton qualified only eighth on Friday at Interlagos – his worst qualifying result in a traditional qualifying since setting the ninth fastest time in qualifying at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, where there was also a Sprint race. Hamilton improved to third in the Sprint and started on the front row as a result of a grid penalty for Carlos Sainz. Hamilton became the first driver to start from the front row on seven occasions at the Interlagos circuit.
For the third race in a row, Lewis Hamilton finished as runner-up, securing Mercedes’ first 1-2 result in over two years and the first 1-2 result for British drivers since the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton led five laps of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, making it the eighth consecutive Interlagos race in which he has led a lap.
2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton qualified in fifth place, ending his record-breaking run of 15 consecutive seasons with at least one pole position. Fifth place is Hamilton’s worst qualifying result at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The only other time Hamilton qualified outside of the top three here was in 2013, when he qualified fourth.
Hamilton retired from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, recording his second retirement of the 2022 season. This was the first time that Hamilton did not finished on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix podium since 2013 and the first time he failed to finish at Yas Marina Circuit since 2012. Hamilton equalled Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to retire on the most occasions at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This was Hamilton’s third retirement at the circuit.
Hamilton’s retirement brought to an end his unique record of having won at least one race in every Formula 1 season in which he has competed. With a win-less year in 2022, Hamilton equalled Michael Schumacher as the driver to have won in the most consecutive F1 seasons. Hamilton won a race in every year between 2007 and 2021, while Schumacher won in every year between 1992 and 2006.
