2021 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX
On debut, Nikita Mazepin spun out of the Bahrain Grand Prix after just three corners. He’s the first driver to retire on debut since Sergey Sirotkin in 2018 and the first driver to retire on the first lap of his career since Andre Lotterer at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix. Not counting Lotterer, who pulled into the pits at the end of the first lap of his career, Mazepin is the first driver to crash out on the first lap of their career since both Allan McNish and Felipe Massa were eliminated on Lap 1 at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix.
2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin finished an F1 race for the first time at the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. He became the 648th driver to reach the chequered flag at a round of the World Championship.
2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazpein earned himself the first time penalty of his Formula 1 career. The Haas driver was found guilty of ignoring blue flags, having almost collided with then race leader Sergio Perez.
2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Having set the third slowest Q1 lap time at the Spanish Grand Prix from the past four seasons – and picking up a three-place grid penalty and a penalty point in the process – Nikita Mazepin finished last of the drivers who finished the race for a third Grand Prix in a row.
2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX
Despite both Haas cars finishing three laps down on the leader – and them being lapped by every other car in the field – Nikita Mazepin equalled the best result of his F1 career to date with seventeenth place. It was the first time he finished ahead of his team-mate in a Grand Prix.
2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
Finishing in fourteenth place, Nikita Mazepin recorded the best result of his Formula 1 career to date. He also became the first Russian driver to finish a Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit.
2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin did not qualify on the back row for a second consecutive race; though the 2021 French Grand Prix was the second consecutive race in which two other drivers failed to set a lap time. He went on to finish in twentieth place, becoming the 34th driver to finish twentieth in a Formula 1 race.
2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX
After setting the slowest qualifying time for the fourth time this year, Nikita Mazepin finished the race in eighteenth place. It’s the first eighteenth place finish in his career and the first eighteenth place finish for a Russian driver since Sergey Sirotkin finished eighteenth at the 2018 Russian Grand Prix.
2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin finished the Austrian Grand Prix 51 seconds behind his team-mate – but a 30-second time penalty extended that gap to 81 seconds.
2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
For only the second time, both Haas cars reached the chequered flag at Silverstone. While Nikita Mazepin finished seventeenth, Mick Schumacher was last of the classified finishers in eighteenth place. The 2017 British Grand Prix is the only other Silverstone race in which both Haas cars have crossed the finish line.
2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Nikita Mazepin recorded his second non-finish – his first since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Every time that a Haas driver has retired in Hungary, the other driver has finished on the road in thirteenth place. It also happened in 2017 and 2019.
2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
One of the most surprising statistics from the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix was that Nikita Mazepin set the fastest lap of the race. His lap time (a 3:18.016) is the slowest time with which a driver has set the Fastest Lap of a race since Jody Scheckter lapped the Nordschleife layout of the Nurburgring at the 1976 German Grand Prix in a time of over seven minutes. Mazepin made this race the 200th to feature a Russian driver on the grid.
2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin was the first retirement from the Dutch Grand Prix, recording the third DNF of his Formula 1 career. Mazepin’s retirement from eighteenth on the grid made this the third consecutive Dutch Grand Prix in which the driver starting eighteenth has retired. It also means that twentieth is the only grid slot yet to record a retirement in the 2021 season.
2021 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin dropped to 21st in the Drivers’ Championship as a result of substitute driver Robert Kubica finishing in fourteenth place. This was Mazepin’s third retirement in the last four races and the third consecutive season in which a Haas driver has failed to reach the end of the Italian Grand Prix.
2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin is still yet to out-qualify anyone in Formula 1, aside from drivers who have failed to set lap times. The Russian driver was almost four seconds slower than his team-mate in qualifying for his home race.
2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX
While team-mate Mick Schumacher reached Q2, Nikita Mazepin was slowest of all 20 drivers in Q1. His best lap time was 2.894 seconds slower than Schumacher’s best. All 20 cars finished the race – with Mazepin finishing last. He has finished last both times that all 20 cars have completed a race which has run to full distance in 2021.
2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
In qualifying for the 2021 United States Grand Prix, Nikita Mazepin recorded the Haas team’s 100th Q1 exit since they joined the sport at the start of the 2016 season.
2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin set the nineteenth slowest time in qualifying but penalties for four other drivers saw him move up to fifteenth on the grid. It matches his best grid position so far in Formula 1. He also started fifteenth at the Russian Grand Prix.
2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin set a new worst Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying result for the Haas team with twentieth place. Haas had never previously qualified below fourteenth place at Interlagos.
2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX
Following a chassis change, Nikita Mazepin was unable to compete in either of the last two Free Practice sessions. He qualified 2.452 seconds away from his team-mate. Mazepin qualified on the back row for the sixth consecutive race. It equals his longest streak of back row qualifications.
2021 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin lined up 20th on the grid for the second race in a row. Mazepin has started from the 20th grid slot on six occasions this year, each time the occurrences being in consecutive pairs (Portugal & Spain, Styria & Austria and Qatar & Saudi Arabia).
2021 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Nikita Mazepin qualified twentieth for the fourth race in a row. He failed to start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after being ruled out due to testing positive for coronavirus.
