Red Bull have become the latest team to reveal their 2018 F1 car – the RB14.
The team, who take title sponsorship from Aston Martin this year, revealed the car online on Monday morning. The car features a special launch livery, but the team say ‘the unfamiliar shapes under the paint are here to stay’.
The team maintain their driver line-up of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen for 2018. Ricciardo will be first to drive the new car during a filming day at the Silverstone Circuit today.
Red Bull’s launch comes earlier than in previous years. One of the team’s targets was to have the car finished earlier to ensure competitiveness from the start of the season. Their press release says incorporating the Halo into the car’s design has been the most difficult task in a year of evolution:
“Installing the Halo has been a challenge – mostly in terms of building a chassis strong enough to accommodate it and pass a brutal homologation test – but the rest of the regs have been comparatively stable. That’s the primary reason we’re able to launch earlier than usual.”
Red Bull finished third in the Constructors’ Championship in 2017. After an upward trend in performance in the second half of last season, they have high hopes of taking the challenge right to the front in 2018.
