A STATISTIC FROM EVERY GRAND PRIX
2021 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel suffered disappointment on his first outing with Aston Martin. It was the first time that Vettel was eliminated in Q1 in Bahrain since driving for Toro Rosso in 2008 – and his worst qualifying result since failing to set a time in qualifying at the 2019 German Grand Prix. Vettel last qualified in eighteenth place at the 2008 Monaco Grand Prix.
2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
Brake issues forced Sebastian Vettel to start the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix from the pit lane. It was his first pit lane start since the 2014 United States Grand Prix. Vettel failed to finish the race, but was classified, having completed more than 90% of the total distance. It was the first time Vettel has not finished but has been classified since the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.
2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel reached Q3 for the first time since the 2020 British Grand Prix. It was the first time he has qualified in the top ten with Aston Martin. Vettel qualified in tenth: the same position as he qualified the last time he was in Q3.
2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel finished thirteenth in the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix. It was the first time since he retired when driving for Toro Rosso in 2008 that Vettel has failed to score at the Spanish Grand Prix. Vettel has now failed to score at all of the last seven races. It is the longest point-less streak in his Formula 1 career. His previous longest streak of races without points was six races, between the 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix and the 2008 Turkish Grand Prix.
2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX
For a twelfth consecutive Monaco Grand Prix appearance, Sebastian Vettel appeared in Q3. His eighth place was the best qualifying result for an Aston Martin driver since the 1959 British Grand Prix. Vettel went on to finish fifth, scoring his first points since his podium finish at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. This was also Aston Martin’s best ever result in Formula 1. It beat their previous best of sixth, recorded by Roy Salvadori at the 1959 British and Portuguese Grands Prix.
2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
After missing out on Q3 by only 0.029 seconds, Sebastian Vettel recorded Aston Martin’s first podium finish in Formula 1. Vettel recorded his 122nd top three result; his first since the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. With Lewis Hamilton finishing outside of the points, Vettel is now the only driver to have scored in all five races at Baku City Circuit.
2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel maintained his 100% points scoring record at Circuit Paul Ricard with a ninth place finish. Vettel finished in the top ten for a third consecutive race. It was the first time he’s scored points at three successive races since the 2019 German, Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix.
2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel qualified in fourteenth place, recording his worst qualifying result at the Red Bull Ring to date. His previous worst was thirteenth with Red Bull in 2014. It is only the third time he has failed to reach Q3 here. He went on to finish the race outside of the points.
2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel failed to score at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix. Having also failed to score at the Styrian Grand Prix, 2021 is the first year that Vettel has not scored at the Red Bull Ring since 2016, when he retired from the Austrian Grand Prix.
2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
After equalling his best qualifying result of the season to date with eighth place, Sebastian Vettel failed to finish the 2021 British Grand Prix, recording his second non finish of the season. This was the German’s third retirement at Silverstone – his first since the 2013 British Grand Prix.
2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel finished as runner-up at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, but was disqualified for being unable to supply a fuel sample. If Vettel’s second place had stood, it would have been the Silverstone-based team’s best ever Hungarian Grand Prix result. Instead, it was the first time a driver has been disqualified since the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix, when both Renault drivers were disqualified. Vettel is the second driver to be disqualified in Hungary. Robert Kubica, in 2006, is the only other driver to have been disqualified at the Hungaroring.
2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel finished the Belgian Grand Prix in fifth place, recording his thirteenth classified finish at Spa. He has now had more finishes than any other driver at the circuit. Vettel previously shared the record of twelve finishes at the track with Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa.
2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Having encountered traffic, Sebastian Vettel qualified only seventeenth for the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix. This was his second Q1 exit of the year, having also been eliminated in Q1 at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
2021 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel finished twelfth in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, making this the third consecutive year that he has failed to score at Monza.
2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel qualified for the Russian Grand Prix in eleventh place, failing to reach Q3 for a third successive race. He went on to finish twelfth, outside of the points for a third race in a row. It was also the third Russian Grand Prix in a row in which Vettel has not scored.
2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel finished the Turkish Grand Prix in eighteenth place – the first time he has finished eighteenth since the 2007 Italian Grand Prix. Surprisingly, eighteenth is not Vettel’s worst finishing position in Istanbul. He finished nineteenth in 2007, which is the worst position in which he has ever finished a race.
2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel recorded his first Q2 exit at the United States Grand Prix. He recorded a Q1 exit here in 2014, but has never previously been eliminated in Q2 at the track. This was Vettel’s fourth consecutive Q2 exit of the 2021 season. Finishing the race in tenth place, Vettel scored his first points since finishing fifth at the Belgian Grand Prix.
2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel was eliminated in Q2 for a fifth consecutive race weekend. It’s the first time he has failed to reach Q2 at the Mexican Grand Prix. Vettel finished the race in seventh place. Having finished fifth at the United States Grand Prix, this was the first time that Vettel has scored at consecutive races since the Monaco, Azerbaijan and French Grands Prix. Vettel’s seventh place marks the fifth time in the last six Mexico races that one of the Silverstone-based team’s drivers has finished seventh.
2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Qualifying twelfth, Sebastian Vettel failed to reach Q3 at Interlagos for the first time since 2009. Vettel finished eleventh, making this the second consecutive Interlagos race at which he failed to score.
2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX
For the first time since the Belgian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel reached Q3. This is the second successive race at which Vettel has qualified in the top ten, having also finished in the top ten in Sprint Qualifying in Brazil. Vettel finished where he started, making this the first time since the French Grand Prix that both Aston Martin drivers have scored.
2021 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel recorded his third Q1 exit of the season. He was also out in Q1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix. Vettel was the last of five drivers to retire from the race. He recorded his first DNF since the British Grand Prix.
2021 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Sebastian Vettel became the first driver to cross the finish line at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on twelve occasions.
