RACE BY RACE: SERGIO PEREZ’S 2024 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2024 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez qualified fifth for the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix. He has not qualified above fifth place since the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. This marked the fourth time in the last ten races that Perez has qualified in fifth place.

Perez finished in second place, recording his best result since finishing as runner-up at the 2023 Italian Grand Prix. Red Bull secured their 29th 1-2 finish as a result, making 2024 the second year in succession in which Red Bull recorded a 1-2 finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Red Bull became the first team to record 1-2 results in consecutive seasons at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

With third place in qualifying for the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez qualified in the top three for the first time since the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. Perez finished the race as runner-up, recording his second top three finish at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

This is the first time since the 2023 Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix that Perez finished on the podium at two consecutive races and the first time he has finished in the top two at successive races since the 2023 Azerbaijan and Miami Grands Prix.

2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez qualified third for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, qualifying in the top three for a second consecutive race. It was the first time he qualified in the top three at two races in a row since the 2023 Azerbaijan and Miami Grands Prix, almost a year ago. Perez equalled his best Australian Grand Prix qualifying result to date, having also qualified third in 2022.

Perez finished fifth in the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. With team-mate Max Verstappen retiring, this was the first Albert Park race since 2015 in which no Red Bull drivers finished in the top four.

2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez qualified on the front row at the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, recording his first front row qualification since taking pole position at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix. It was Perez’s first front row qualification – and his first top three qualifying result – at Suzuka. Perez ensured Red Bull secured their first front row lock-out since the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Perez finished as runner-up to his team-mate for the third time in the last four races, securing Red Bull’s fourth 1-2 finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. The team also recorded 1-2 results at Suzuka in 2010, 2013 and 2022. Perez recorded the 38th podium finish of his career, overtaking Riccardo Patrese for 24th in the all-time list of most podium finishes.

2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez made his 71st start with Red Bull at the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, equalling David Coulthard as the driver to have made the fifth most appearances with the team. Qualifying second, Perez qualified on the front row at consecutive races for the first time since the start of the 2023 season. Perez recorded his best Chinese Grand Prix qualifying result to date, having never previously qualified in the top six in Shanghai. This was the first time since 2014 that Perez was out-qualified by a team-mate at the Chinese Grand Prix.

In the race, Perez recorded the 39th podium finish of his career and his first top seven finish at the Chinese Grand Prix.

2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez made his 72nd start with Red Bull, overtaking David Coulthard as the driver to have made the fifth most appearances with the team. Perez finished fifth on the road in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix but moved up to fourth after a post-race time penalty for Carlos Sainz. Perez recorded a ninth consecutive top five result. Fourth place equalled the worst finish to date for a Red Bull driver in Miami.

2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez missed out on a place in Q3 at the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, qualifying in 11th place. This was the first time Perez missed out on Q3 since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Perez became the first Red Bull driver to qualify outside of the top ten at Imola since both drivers failed to reach Q3 at the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix.

Perez finished eighth in the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, recording his first finish outside of the top five since his retirement at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Qualifying a lowly 18th, Sergio Perez recorded his first Q1 exit since the 2023 British Grand Prix. 2024 is the second year in a row in which Perez has been eliminated in Q1 at the Monaco Grand Prix. 18th place is Perez’s worst qualifying result since qualifying 20th for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. In total, this was Red Bull’s fourth Q1 elimination at the Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen was out in Q1 in both 2016 and 2018, while Perez has been out in Q1 in the last two seasons.

Sergio Perez was out on Lap 1 of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, following a collision with Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. They became the first drivers to be out on Lap 1 of the Monaco Grand Prix since Perez himself in 2014. Perez recorded his first retirement since the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix, in which he was also out on the opening lap. This was his first DNF at the Monaco Grand Prix since 2014.

2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez was eliminated in Q1 for a second consecutive race at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix. This marked the first time Perez recorded Q1 exits at successive races since the 2019 Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix. Perez has now missed out on Q3 at all of the last three races. This was the fourth consecutive Canadian Grand Prix weekend at which Perez failed to qualify in the top ten. It was his first Q1 exit at the Montreal track since 2019.

After breaking his rear wing, Perez retired for a second consecutive Grand Prix weekend. This was the first time he recorded DNFs at successive races since doing so at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.

2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez qualified eighth for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix, reaching Q3 for the first time since the Miami Grand Prix. As a result of his grid penalty, Perez – the driver of car number 11 – started 11th for the 1,111th round in World Championship history.

After two successive DNFs, Perez crossed the finish line for the first time since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Having finished eighth at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix, the Miami Grand Prix remained the last time Perez finished in the top seven.

Perez was one of only two drivers – along with Daniel Ricciardo – to gain more than two places, each making up three positions in the Spanish Grand Prix.

2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Kimi Raikkonen’s record of most F1 appearances in Austria was equalled at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix by three drivers, including Sergio Perez who made his 13th appearance at the track. Perez finished seventh in the race. His fourth place in Miami remained the last time he finished in the top six positions.

2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

For the third time in the last five races, Sergio Perez was eliminated in Q1 at the 2024 British Grand Prix. This was his first back row qualification since the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. 2024 is the second consecutive season in which Perez was eliminated in Q1 at the British Grand Prix.

Perez finished 17th in the 2024 British Grand Prix – the first time he has finished a race in a position outside of the points (excluding DNFs) since the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. It’s the first time since the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix that Perez has finished a race in a position outside of the top 16.

During the 2024 British Grand Prix, Perez overtook Felipe Massa as the driver who has raced the eighth-most Grand Prix laps in Formula 1.

2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez made his 270th Grand Prix start at the Hungarian Grand Prix, overtaking Felipe Massa for eighth on the list of most starts in Formula 1.

For the fourth time in the last six races, Perez was eliminated in Q1. This was the second successive race weekend in which Perez crashed out in the opening stage of qualifying. Perez’s crash saw Red Bull record their first-ever Q1 exit at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The team’s previous worst qualifying result at the Hungaroring was 14th, recorded by Christian Klien in 2006. This was Perez’s third Q1 exit at the Hungarian Grand Prix – his first since 2019. This was the tenth time in the last eleven seasons that Perez has been out-qualified by his team-mate at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Perez’s run without a top six finish continued for an eighth race in a row. Perez gained nine positions in the race – tying with George Russell for the most places gained on Sunday afternoon. They were the only drivers to gain more than two positions from where they started.

2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez qualified third for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix. It marked his best qualifying result since qualifying on the front row at the Chinese Grand Prix. 2024 is the third year in a row in which Perez has qualified third for the Belgian Grand Prix. Perez progressed to Q3 at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix by just 0.003 seconds. It was only the third time in the last eight races that he qualified in the top ten.

Perez finished in seventh place for the third time in the last four races. He lost five positions from where he started – the most places he’s lost in a race which he has finished since losing nine places in the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

For the first time since the Chinese and Miami Grands Prix, Sergio Perez qualified in the top five at successive races at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. With Valtteri Bottas out-qualifying his team-mate at Zandvoort for the first time, Perez is now the only driver to make appearances at the last four Dutch Grands Prix and not out-qualify his team-mate on any occasion.

Perez finished sixth in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. This was his first top six finish since finishing fourth in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix.

2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Finishing eighth in the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez finished outside of the top five for a tenth consecutive race.

2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Qualifying fourth, Sergio Perez became the tenth Formula 1 driver to reach Q3 on 150 occasions at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Perez out-qualified Max Verstappen for the first time since the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, 34 race weekends ago.

The Azerbaijan race came to a dramatic conclusion as Perez and Carlos Sainz collided on the penultimate lap. Perez recorded his third DNF of the 2024 season – his first since the Canadian Grand Prix.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

For the sixth time in 2024, Sergio Perez failed to reach Q3 at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. From his 12 appearances at the event, 2016, 2018 and 2022 are the only times that Perez has qualified in the top ten at Marina Bay Street Circuit. This was Perez’s first Q2 exit since the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the first time he failed to reach Q3 since exiting in Q1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix. 2024 is the second year in a row that Perez qualified 13th for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Perez picked up the final point in the race, finishing in tenth place. He has not finished in the top five in any of the last 12 races. This was the first time Perez finished in a better position than where he started since the Hungarian Grand Prix. From 13th on the grid, Perez was the only driver who started outside of the top ten to score a point in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Along with Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez became the first driver to make 12 appearances at COTA having never missed a race at the track since it joined the F1 calendar in 2012. Perez failed to set a lap time in Q3 at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, meaning he qualified in tenth place. It was the worst qualifying result for a Red Bull driver at COTA since Max Verstappen was out in Q2 in 2018.

Perez scored a point at Circuit of The Americas for the tenth time in his career. It put him level with Hamilton for the most points-scoring appearances at the track. He also set a new record for the most classified finishes at the track, with 11, overtaking Hamilton. This was Perez’s ninth consecutive points-scoring appearance at COTA.

2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez recorded a disappointing Q1 exit at his home race, qualifying only 18th. This was the first time a Red Bull driver failed to reach Q3 at the Mexico City Grand Prix and the first time that the team had a driver qualifying outside of the top seven for the Mexico City race. With Perez out in Q1, Mercedes are now the only team to see both cars qualify in the top ten on every appearance in Mexico since 2015. This was Perez’s fifth Q1 elimination of the season.

Perez had a home race weekend to forget, finishing the race in 17th place. This was the third time this year that Perez was classified in 17th place, after the British and Azerbaijan Grands Prix.

2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

For the first time since 2019, Sergio Perez failed to reach Q3 at Interlagos. He finished 11th in the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, failing to score for a second consecutive race. In the last 15 races, he has recorded a single top six result. Perez’s 11th place made this his first visit to Brazil since 2015 in which he did not score any points.

2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez was eliminated in Q1 for the sixth time in the 2024 season at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The United States Grand Prix is the only time in the last five races that Perez has qualified in the top ten, while the Azerbaijan Grand Prix remains his last top nine qualifying result. With tenth place in the race, Perez scored a point in a Grand Prix for the first time since the United States Grand Prix. The Miami Grand Prix in May remains Perez’s last top five finish.

2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Sergio Perez reached Q3 at Lusail Circuit for the first time. Qualifying ninth, this was the first time that Perez qualified higher than tenth since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It was his second Q3 appearance in the last six races.

Perez recorded his fourth retirement of the season at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix. This was the 17th consecutive Grand Prix in which he failed to finish in the top five. He has scored only one point in the last four Grands Prix.

Perez’s retirement ensured that he would finish no higher than eighth in the Drivers’ Championship, making this the first time that the team-mate of the World Champion has finished as low as eighth in the championship since Jos Verstappen finished tenth overall in 1994 whilst Benetton team-mate Michael Schumacher was crowned champion.

2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Qualifying tenth for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Sergio Perez reached Q3 at consecutive races for the first time since the Italian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. The Baku race remains the last time that Perez qualified in the top eight. Perez’s tenth place marked the worst-ever qualifying result for a Red Bull driver at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, not counting times that drivers were excluded after the qualifying session had taken place.

On Sunday, Perez failed to finish for a second consecutive race. The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the first time he failed to finish consecutive races since the 2024 Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix. This was Perez’s third retirement at Yas Marina Circuit in the last five seasons. In the last eight Grands Prix, Perez has finished in the top eight only once, with seventh place at the United States Grand Prix.
