2024 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas recorded his worst-ever Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying result with 16th place. From his 13 appearances, this was Bottas’ first Q1 exit at the track. Finishing the race only 19th after a botched pit stop, Bottas failed to score at the Bahrain Grand Prix for the first time since his first appearance at the track in 2013.
2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas recorded a Q1 exit at Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the first time in qualifying for the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He exited in Q1 for a third consecutive race, recording three successive Q1 exits for the first time in his career.
2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX
Qualifying 13th, Valtteri Bottas made the 2024 Australian Grand Prix the first time this season that a Sauber driver progressed past Q1. Bottas finished one position lower than where he started. This was the seventh race in a row in which Bottas lost positions during the Grand Prix. It was the first time Bottas lost a position from where he started in the Australian Grand Prix.
2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas made his 188th consecutive Grand Prix start at the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, overtaking Riccardo Patrese for fifth in the list of most consecutive F1 races started.
Bottas equalled his best qualifying result of the season to date, qualifying in 13th place for a second consecutive race. Bottas finished in 14th place for a second consecutive race. This was the 200th Grand Prix finish of his career. Bottas is the 11th driver to have crossed the finish line on 200 occasions. This was the sixth consecutive Grand Prix in which Bottas finished in a worse position than where he started.
2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas recorded his – and the Sauber team’s – first Q3 appearance since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. He continued his streak of appearing in every Q3 session at the Chinese Grand Prix since 2014. Bottas’ tenth place marked the first Q3 appearance for a Sauber driver at the Chinese Grand Prix since both drivers qualified in the top ten in 2015.
Bottas was the first driver to retire from the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix. From his eight appearances at Shanghai International Circuit, this was the first time he failed to reach the chequered flag.
2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX
Qualifying 16th, Valtteri Bottas failed to reach Q3 at the Miami Grand Prix for the first time.
2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
With Valtteri Bottas 16th and Zhou Guanyu 17th, Sauber recorded their fourth double Q1 elimination of the year at the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. With 16th place, Bottas equalled his worst qualifying result of the season so far. This was the first time in his career that Bottas did not reach Q3 at Imola.
2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX
With 19th place, Valtteri Bottas recorded his worst qualifying result of the season to date. This was Bottas’ first Q1 exit at the Monaco Grand Prix since 2015. On Sunday, 13th place in the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix marked Bottas’ best result of the year so far. It was his best finish since the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix. Bottas gained four places during the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix – the first time he gained places in a race since the 2023 United States Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso and Zhou Guanyu were the only other drivers to gain places in the race.
2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas finished 13th at the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix, failing to score a point in Montreal for the first time since his maiden season in 2013. Bottas gained six positions in the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix – the most places he has ever gained in a race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu reached Q2 at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. It was the first time neither Sauber driver exited in Q1 since the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix, when both cars reached Q3. Losing four places over the course of the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix, Bottas was the only driver to lose more than two places from where he started in the race.
2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
For the first time in his record-equalling 13 visits to the Red Bull Ring, Valtteri Bottas failed to progress to Q2 at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix. Bottas had never previously qualified outside of the top 14 at the track. Along with Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez, Bottas extended the record for most Grand Prix finishes at the Red Bull Ring to 12 with his 16th place at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.
2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas qualified 16th for the 2024 British Grand Prix, recording his first Q1 exit at the British Grand Prix since 2014.
2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas qualified 12th for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. This was the first time since his maiden season in 2013 that Bottas failed to reach Q3 at the track.
2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas exited in Q2 at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, failing to reach Q3 at Spa-Francorchamps for the third year in a row. Bottas finished the race in 15th, meaning his second place finish in 2020 remained the last time he scored a point in Belgium.
2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Qualifying 18th, Valtteri Bottas became the first driver to record as many as three Q1 exits at the Dutch Grand Prix. This was the Finn’s third consecutive Q1 elimination at Zandvoort. With 19th place in the race, Bottas equalled his worst ever result in a race in which he has crossed the finish line. This was the fourth 19th place finish of his career.
2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas was eliminated in Q1 at Monza for the first time since his first F1 appearance at the track in 2013. 19th is his worst qualifying result to date at the track and equals his worst qualifying result of the season to date, having also qualified 19th at the Monaco Grand Prix.
2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas continued his record of appearing at every Baku City Circuit race to date, along with Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. They became the first drivers to make eight F1 appearances in Azerbaijan.
2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
For the third year in a row, Valtteri Bottas was eliminated in Q1 at the Singapore Grand Prix. With 19th place, he equalled his worst qualifying result of the year to date and qualified on the back row for the third time in 2024. Bottas finished 16th for the third race weekend in a row.
2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
Both Sauber drivers were out in Q1 at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, with both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu recording their first Q1 eliminations at this circuit. This was the first time Bottas has qualified outside of the top 13 for a Grand Prix at COTA.
With Bottas 17th and Zhou 19th in the race, this was the first time that neither Sauber driver finished in the top 15 at COTA since the track joined the calendar.
2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas reached Q2 at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, marking the first time a Sauber driver reached Q2 since the Belgian Grand Prix. Bottas qualified in 15th place. It was the first time that the Finn has failed to reach Q3 at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Bottas crossed the finish line in 14th place, recording his best result since finishing 13th in the Canadian Grand Prix. Along with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Bottas became the first driver to cross the finish line on nine occasions in Mexico.
2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas qualified 11th, recording his best qualifying result since reaching Q3 at the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix.
2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX
Qualifying 19th for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas qualified on the back row for the fourth time this year.
2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas made his 207th consecutive Grand Prix start at the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, overtaking Nico Rosberg for fourth on the list of most successive Grand Prix starts in F1 history.
For only the second time in 2024, after the Spanish Grand Prix, both Sauber drivers made it out of Q1 at the Qatar Grand Prix. This was the first Qatar Grand Prix weekend in which neither Sauber (formerly Alfa Romeo) driver was eliminated in Q1. Along with Pierre Gasly, Bottas lost his 100% Q3 appearance record at the Qatar Grand Prix, exiting in Q2.
While his team-mate scored points in the race, Bottas finished in 11th place.
2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Valtteri Bottas bid farewell to Formula 1 after a 246 race career at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. At Yas Marina Circuit, he equalled David Coulthard as the driver who had started the 13th most Grands Prix in F1 history. This was Bottas’ 208th consecutive start – the fourth-longest such streak in F1 history. As it stands, the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the end of a 300 race streak with at least one Finnish driver on the starting grid.
Bottas reached Q3 for the second time in 2024, doing so for the first time since the Chinese Grand Prix. Ninth place marked Bottas’ best qualifying result since qualifying eighth for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Bottas recorded the Sauber team’s first Q3 appearance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix since 2018. This was the team’s second Q3 appearance here in the past 11 years.
Bottas failed to finish on his farewell to Formula 1, recording his first DNF since the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix. This was Bottas’s second retirement at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, having last retired from the event in 2016. Bottas ended the season having not scored a single point. Thanks to Jack Doohan competing in the final round of the year – and finishing 15th – Bottas did not finish last in the final standings.
