Your 2019 #MexicoGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2019 Mexico Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. WILL RED BULL WIN THE RACE?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO – FERRARI WILL

CORRECT ANSWER: NO – MERCEDES WILL

Red Bull headed into the Mexico Grand Prix having won the last two races at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. And things looked good for a repeat on Saturday, after Max Verstappen took pole position. However, Verstappen was demoted to fourth on the grid following a yellow flag infringement, and a puncture early in the race ended his hopes of victory. He finished sixth, while Alex Albon claimed fifth place.

2. WILL LEWIS HAMILTON BE CROWNED CHAMPION?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

In order to be crowned World Champion at the Mexico Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton needed to out-score his team-mate by fourteen points – something which he had done only once previously so far this season. Though Hamilton won the race, Valtteri Bottas also finished on the podium, meaning that the title fight will go on to next week’s United States Grand Prix. Hamilton now needs only four points to secure his sixth title.

3. WHERE WILL McLAREN FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6TH

CORRECT ANSWER: 8TH OR LOWER

It was a promising Saturday for McLaren, securing seventh and eighth on the grid. However, they suffered an underwhelming Sunday. After leaving his pit stop with a loose wheel, Lando Norris ended up a lap down before retiring. Carlos Sainz also plummeted down the order through the race finishing in a disappointing thirteenth place.

4. WHERE WILL PEREZ FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 9th OR 10th

CORRECT ANSWER: 7th or 8th

Sergio Perez enjoyed a successful home race weekend. After just missing out on Q3 by a matter of thousandths, he went on to finish in seventh place. That result equalled his best ever finishing position at his home Grand Prix and recorded his 100th points scoring finish.

5. HOW MANY RENAULT-POWERED CARS WILL REACH Q3?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2

CORRECT ANSWER: 2

Both McLarens reached the final part of qualifying, but the two works Renault cars failed to get into the top ten. Nico Hulkenberg qualified in twelfth, while Daniel Ricciardo recorded the thirteenth quickest time.
