Your 2019 #RussianGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2019 Russian Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. Will Mercedes win?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

It was almost a tie in this poll, with 51% of you believing that Mercedes would maintain their 100% win record at the Russian Grand Prix. After team order dramas at Ferrari, a DNF for Sebastian Vettel and a well-timed Virtual Safety Car, Mercedes were able to secure and eighth 1-2 finish of the year.

2. Where will Kvyat finish?

YOUR PREDICTION: 9th – 12th

CORRECT ANSWER: 9th – 12th

Daniil Kvyat had a weekend to forget at his home race. Already starting at the back due to engine penalties, Kvyat ran into problems throughout the practice sessions and failed to take part in qualifying. After starting 19th, Kvyat was able to gain seven positions in the race and finished twelfth.

3. Where will the best-placed Red Bull finish?

YOUR PREDICTION: 5th

CORRECT ANSWER: 4th

Both Red Bull drivers had five place grid penalties for the Russian Grand Prix, but a Q1 crash saw Alex Albon start from the pit lane. He went on to gain fifteen positions in the race to come home fifth. Max Verstappen started from ninth and finished fourth – the best ever result for a Red Bull driver at the Sochi Autodrom.

4. Who’ll be fifth on the grid?

YOUR PREDICTION: McLaren

CORRECT ANSWER: McLaren

With both Red Bull drivers taking five-place penalties, the fifth spot on the grid was a target for the midfield teams. It ended up being a battle between the McLaren and Renault drivers, with Carlos Sainz lapping fastest of the four drivers. Sainz lapped 0.077 seconds faster than Nico Hulkenberg.

5. Which of these teams will score more points?

YOUR PREDICTION: Renault

CORRECT ANSWER: Racing Point

Toro Rosso were the only team from this quartet who failed to score at the Russian Grand Prix. Renault picked up one point thanks to Nico Hulkenberg’s tenth place, while Haas scored two points with Kevin Magnussen finishing ninth. But it was Racing Point who scored the most points, with Sergio Perez adding six to the team’s tally with a seventh place finish.
