For the seventh time this season, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen shared the podium positions. Only Mercedes and Red Bull finished on the podium. The closest driver from another team was Charles Leclerc in fourth place, who finished over thirty seconds behind Verstappen.

Sebastian Vettel has failed to reach Q3 since the British Grand Prix, and failed to do so again at the Portuguese Grand Prix. Qualifying in fifteenth position, the Algarve race was the eighth consecutive round in which Vettel has failed to qualify in the top ten, marking the first time that the German has failed to reach Q3 at eight consecutive races in his 14-year F1 career.

McLaren took home eight points from the Portuguese Grand Prix, courtesy of a sixth place finish for Carlos Sainz. Sainz led the opening laps of the race before slipping back down the order. Following a collision with Lance Stroll and an extra stop for a slow puncture, Lando Norris finished only thirteenth.

Lewis Hamilton took victory at the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix with a margin of 25.592 seconds – the largest win margin since the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix. It was the third largest win margin of Hamilton’s career, after the 2008 and 2014 British Grands Prix.
