Your 2020 #SpanishGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. HOW MANY PIT STOPS WILL HAMILTON MAKE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2

CORRECT ANSWER: 2

Just as 65% of you predicted, Lewis Hamilton made two pit stops on his way to victory in the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas was the only driver who made three stops, doing so to score the fastest lap of the race – which he secured on the final lap.

2. WHERE WILL SAINZ FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6TH OR 7TH

CORRECT ANSWER: 6TH OR 7TH

Carlos Sainz equalled his best Spanish Grand Prix result with a sixth place finish. The Spaniard has never failed to score at his home event, finishing at least ninth on all six appearances so far. He previously finished sixth at the event in 2016.

3. WHEN WILL THE FIRST RETIREMENT BE?

YOUR PREDICTION: LAP 1-10

CORRECT ANSWER: AFTER LAP 30

Only 5% predicted that the first retirement of the Spanish Grand Prix would come after Lap 30. There was only one non-finisher, and that was Charles Leclerc, who retired after 38 laps. His retirement was the third for Ferrari at Catalunya in the last four seasons.

4. HOW MANY TEAMS WILL SCORE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6

CORRECT ANSWER: 6

46.8% of you correctly guessed that six teams would score in the Spanish Grand Prix. Mercedes took home the most points, with Lewis Hamilton winning and Valtteri Bottas finishing third and taking the fastest lap. Racing Point scored the second-most points and moved up to third in the Constructors’ Championship as a result. Renault, Alfa Romeo, Haas and Williams were the four teams who failed to score.

5. WHERE WILL ALBON FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 4th or 5th

CORRECT ANSWER: 8th or lower

Alex Albon finished eighth for the second time in the last three races. Albon was the first driver to pit during the race, switching to the hardest compound. He stopped again 22 laps later and dropped to eleventh place. The Red Bull driver then fought back to eighth, while his team-mate finished as runner-up.
