How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!
1. WHO WILL LEAD THE CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER THE RACE?
YOUR PREDICTION: MAX VERSTAPPEN
CORRECT ANSWER: LEWIS HAMILTON
While Max Verstappen dropped to the back of the field following a collision at Turn 1 with Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton dropped to the back of the field at the restart as he opted to not change his tyres at the end of the formation lap. While Hamilton was able to fight back to third, Verstappen had damage which limited his performance. The Red Bull driver finished tenth and lost the championship lead to Hamilton as a result.
2. WHERE WILL RUSSELL FINISH?
YOUR PREDICTION: 11th OR 12th
CORRECT ANSWER: IN THE POINTS
Despite a disappointing qualifying performance, in which he recorded his first Q1 exit of the season, George Russell scored his first points in a Williams car. He finished ninth on track – equalling his best ever F1 result, recorded with Mercedes at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.
3. HOW MANY POINTS WILL ALONSO AND RAIKKONEN SCORE?
YOUR PREDICTION: 1-4 POINTS
CORRECT ANSWER: 9 OR MORE POINTS
The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix was the first race since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix to feature two drivers over the age of 40 on the grid. Fernando Alonso – and his Alpine team – had a brilliant afternoon, with the Spaniard coming home in fifth place. Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen finished just outside of the points in eleventh place – which may yet be a points-scoring result, if Sebastian Vettel is disqualified.
4. HOW MANY TEAMS WILL REACH Q3?
YOUR PREDICTION: 6
CORRECT ANSWER: 7
Seven different teams appeared in Q3 on Saturday at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Haas, Alfa Romeo and Williams were the only teams not to appear in the final stage of qualifying, while Mercedes, Red Bull and Alpine were the only teams to see both cars qualify in the top ten.
5. WILL FERRARI FINISH IN THE TOP 5?
YOUR PREDICTION: LECLERC WILL, SAINZ WON’T
CORRECT ANSWER: SAINZ WILL, LECLERC WON’T
The option with the fewest votes on this poll is what ended up happening. Charles Leclerc was eliminated in the first lap carnage, while Carlos Sainz – from his fifteenth place start – was able to secure a fourth place finish.
