Your 2022 Belgian Grand Prix Predictions: The Results

Did you predict a victory from 14th on the grid? Or that no fewer than eight drivers would pick up grid penalties? How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2022 Belgian Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. WILL INTERMEDIATE OR WET TYRES BE USED IN THE RACE?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

The weather may have been overcast on Friday and Saturday but there were clear skies on Sunday. No wet or intermediate tyres were used over the race distance.

2. WILL A FRONT ROW STARTER WIN?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Given that the last seven Belgian Grands Prix had been won from the front row of the grid, it’s no surprise that over 60% of you predicted a front row starter would win again. Max Verstappen was fastest in qualifying but started down the field due to an engine penalty. He went on to win the race from 14th on the grid, the second furthest back position from which a victory has been recorded in Spa’s history.

3. WHERE WILL SAINZ FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: ON THE PODIUM

CORRECT ANSWER: ON THE PODIUM

Carlos Sainz started from pole position but his Ferrari car had no answer to the pace of the Red Bulls at the Belgian Grand Prix. Despite a late race charge by George Russell, Sainz held on to secure his first podium finish since the British Grand Prix.

4. WILL RICCIARDO SCORE POINTS?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Daniel Ricciardo failed to pick up points at the Belgian Grand Prix. He came home in 15th position, 2.5 seconds and three places behind his team-mate.

5. HOW MANY DRIVERS WILL TAKE GRID PENALTIES?

YOUR PREDICTION: 3 OR 4

CORRECT ANSWER: 5 OR MORE

We knew there would be grid penalties – but maybe not this many! In total, eight drivers were handed penalties for the Belgian Grand Prix, all relating to engine components and gearboxes. Six were given back of the grid penalties, Valtteri Bottas had a 30 place penalty and Yuki Tsunoda started from the pit-lane due to a late engine change.
