Your 2023 Austrian Grand Prix Predictions: The Results

Did you predict a top four finish for Norris? Or that Haas would score points in the Sprint? How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. ON HOW MANY DAYS WILL WET OR INTERMEDIATES BE USED?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2

CORRECT ANSWER: 1

The intermediate tyres were used only on Sprint Saturday at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix. The damp weather conditions led to an exciting Sprint race, in which some drivers opted to switch to slick tyres towards the end of the race.

2. WILL VERSTAPPEN LEAD EVERY LAP OF THE 2023 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Max Verstappen’s impressive run of 248 consecutive laps led – the third longest such streak in F1 history – came to an end on Lap 25 of the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc led ten laps of the race, before Verstappen reassumed the lead and won a fifth consecutive race.

3. WILL HAAS SCORE ANY POINTS OVER THE WEEKEND?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

In the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, Haas failed to score. Nico Hulkenberg was the race’s only retirement, while Kevin Magnussen finished last on the road before being promoted one place due to post race penalties for Yuki Tsunoda.

Haas did score over the weekend, however, thanks to a sixth place finish for Hulkenberg in Saturday’s Sprint. It bagged the team three points, taking their total for the year to 11.

4. WHERE WILL NORRIS FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 7th or 8th

CORRECT ANSWER: IN THE TOP 6

Originally finishing fifth, Lando Norris was promoted to fourth place in the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix following a post race time penalty for Carlos Sainz. The result is McLaren’s best of the season to date, while Norris maintains his impressive record of finishing in the top seven on every Red Bull Ring appearance.

5. WILL ALONSO QUALIFY IN THE TOP THREE?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Prior to 2023, Fernando Alonso had never previously qualified in the top three at the Austrian Grand Prix. That statistic remains true after the 2023 race, with Alonso setting the seventh fastest time in Q3 on Friday. He was out-qualified by Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll for only the second time this year.
