Nico Hulkenberg’s involvement in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix weekend was not confirmed until Friday morning. Sergio Perez’s test for COVID-19 remained positive, meaning that the German was drafted in to replace him. Hulkenberg qualified a commendable third and finished the race in seventh place.

Punctures for the two Mercedes drivers brought about a thrilling end to the British Grand Prix one week ago, and tyres would once again be a focal point in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. While no driver suffered a puncture, Mercedes had to deal with rapidly wearing tyres – one of the main factors in Max Verstappen’s victory.

With the tyres one compound softer than last week, we were expecting the Silverstone Track Record to be beaten in qualifying. However, the softest compound did not suit the track too well, and this week’s pole time was 0.851 seconds slower than last week.

There was only one retirement at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. That driver was Kevin Magnussen, who pulled into the garage near the end of the race. Magnussen has now retired from all of the last three races at Silverstone, while Haas have recorded six DNFs in six appearances at the track.

It was another mixed day for Ferrari. While Charles Leclerc scored twelve points with a fourth place finish, Sebastian Vettel spun at the start and failed to score. The team move up to third in the Constructors’ Championship as a result of Leclerc’s fourth place.
