RACE BY RACE: YUKI TSUNODA‘S 2024 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2024 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda qualified in 11th place for the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, missing out on a spot in Q3 by just 0.007 seconds. He remains yet to qualify in the top ten at the track. Tsunoda lost positions from where he started in Bahrain – the first time he has done so in his four appearances at the circuit.

2024 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

Qualifying ninth for the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda recorded RB’s first Q3 appearance of the 2024 season. He finished 14th in the race, retaining his 100% non-score rate at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda recorded Q3 appearances at consecutive races for the first time since the end of the 2021 season. This was Tusnoda’s first top ten qualification at Albert Park and the first time that a driver for the Red Bull junior team reached Q3 at the Australian Grand Prix since 2017.

Tsunoda finished seventh in the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, recording his first top seven finish since he last finished seventh at the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Tsunoda equalled the Red Bull junior team’s best-ever Australian Grand Prix result. Sebastien Bourdais finished seventh with Toro Rosso in 2008, while Sebastien Buemi finished seventh with the team in 2009.

2024 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Finishing in tenth place, Yuki Tsunoda became the first Japanese driver to score a point in the Japanese Grand Prix since Kamui Kobayashi finished on the podium at Suzuka in 2012. Tsunoda became the fifth Japanese driver to score a point in the Japanese Grand Prix after Satoru Nakajima (1987 & 1990), Aguri Suzuki (1990), Takuma Sato (2002, 2003 & 2004) and Kamui Kobayashi (2010 & 2012).

Having also scored at the Australian Grand Prix, this was the first time Tsunoda scored points in two consecutive races since the 2023 Australian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. This was the first point for a driver for the Red Bull junior team at Suzuka since the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix.

Yuki Tsunoda reached Q3 at his home Grand Prix for a second consecutive season. He qualified tenth in 2024, compared to ninth in 2023. This was the first time since the 2022 Dutch, Italian and Singapore Grands Prix that at least one driver for the Red Bull junior team reached Q3 at three consecutive races. It was the first time Tsunoda reached Q3 at three races in a row since doing so at the end of the 2021 season.

2024 CHINESE GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda ended a streak of three consecutive Q3 appearances with his first Q1 elimination of the 2024 season at the Chinese Grand Prix. He recorded his first back row qualification since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. In the race, Tsunoda recorded his first retirement since the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

2024 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda reached Q3 for the fourth time in the last five races. Coming home seventh, Tsunoda equalled his best result of the season to date. He also finished seventh at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. Tsunoda recorded his and the Red Bull junior team’s first points in a Grand Prix at Miami International Autodrome – though team-mate Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth in Saturday’s Sprint.

2024 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

With seventh place, Yuki Tsunoda recorded his best qualifying result of the year to date. This is the third time in his career that he has qualified in the top seven, after the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix and the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Tsunoda has reached Q3 at all but one of the last six races. This was the first time he has made it out of Q1 in his three appearances at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda reached Q3 for the sixth time in the last seven races. This was the first time since the end of the 2021 season that Tsunoda qualified in the top eight at consecutive races. Finishing the race in eighth, Tsunoda scored points for the fifth time in the last six races. This was Tsunoda’s first top 14 finish at the Monaco Grand Prix.

2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda reached Q3 for a fourth consecutive race weekend. This was the first time in his career that Tsunoda made four consecutive Q3 appearances. This was Tunoda’s first-ever Q3 appearance at the Canadian Grand Prix.

2024 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda exited in Q1 for the first time since the Chinese Grand Prix. It ended a streak of four consecutive Q3 appearances. With team-mate Daniel Ricciardo also out in Q1, this was the RB’s first double Q1 exit of the year. It marked the first time that the Red Bull junior team had ever recorded a double Q1 elimination at the Spanish Grand Prix.

2024 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda finished 14th in the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, failing to score for the fourth time in his five Red Bull Ring appearances. Tenth place in the 2021 Styrian Grand Prix – his first appearance here – remains the only time he has scored a point at the track.

2024 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Finishing tenth, Yuki Tsunoda made the 2024 British Grand Prix his first points-scoring race since the Monaco Grand Prix. It was the first time he scored a point at Silverstone since his maiden season. This was the first time Tsunoda finished in a better position than where he started since the Miami Grand Prix.

2024 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix marked Yuki Tsunoda’s first Q3 appearance at the Hungarian Grand Prix, having never previously qualified in the top 15, nor made it out of Q1, at the track.

Tsunoda finished ninth in the race, scoring points for a second consecutive race weekend. This was the first time since finishing sixth in 2021 that Tsunoda scored points at the Hungarian Grand Prix. 2021 was also the last time that the Red Bull junior team scored a point in Hungary.

2024 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda carried a 60-place grid penalty for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix and recorded his third Q1 exit of season, having also exited in Q1 in China and Spain. 18th is his worst qualifying result since qualifying on the back row for the Chinese Grand Prix. Tsunoda made this the fourth consecutive season in which a driver for the Red Bull junior team has been out in Q1 at the Belgian Grand Prix. This was the third time from his four appearances at Spa-Francorchamps that Tsunoda has been eliminated in Q1, equalling the record for most Q1 exits at the track.

2024 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda finished 17th in the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix – his worst result since finishing 19th at the Spanish Grand Prix.

2024 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda made his 82nd start in car number 22 at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, overtaking Andrea de Cesaris as the driver who has started the most Grands Prix in car number 22.

Tsunoda qualified in 16th place, missing out on a place in Q2. He remains yet to reach Q3 at the Italian Grand Prix, with this being his first Q1 exit at Monza since his maiden season in 2013.

Tsunoda was the only driver who failed to finish the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. This was his second retirement of the year, having last retired at the Chinese Grand Prix. Tsunoda’s 14th place in the 2022 Italian Grand Prix remains the only time that he has crossed the finish line in his four appearances at Monza. His other two visits to the track resulted in Did Not Starts.

2024 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda’s 12th place in qualifying for the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix marked the first time in his four appearances at the event that he did not reach Q3 nor qualify in eighth place. Tsunoda was the first driver to retire from the race, retiring for the second race weekend in a row. The retirement brought an end to Tsunoda’s 100% finish rate at Baku City Circuit.

2024 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda qualified eighth for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, reaching Q3 for the first time since the Hungarian Grand Prix. With 12th place in the race, Tsunoda ended a two-race streak of retirements in the 2024 season and crossed the finish line in Singapore for the first time in his three appearances at the event.

2024 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda qualified 11th for the United States Grand Prix for the second season in a row. He also finished 11th, making this the first time in his four visits to COTA that he failed to pick up a point.

2024 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Q2 at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix came to a slightly early end due to a crash for Yuki Tsunoda, which caused a red flag. Tsunoda’s red flag meant that both he and RB team-mate Liam Lawson were out in Q2.

There were three retirements in the race – two of which came on the opening lap, when contact between Tsunoda and Alex Albon put both drivers out of the race. Tsunoda recorded his third retirement in four appearances at the Mexico City Grand Prix. He recorded his third retirement in the last five Grands Prix. Tsunoda became the first driver to record multiple first lap retirements in Mexico.

2024 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda’s third place in Sunday morning qualifying marked the best qualifying result of his Formula 1 career. His previous best result was sixth place, at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This was the first time that Tsunoda reached Q3 at Interlagos.

Tsunoda finished the race in seventh, scoring his first Grand Prix points since the Hungarian Grand Prix. This was his third seventh place result of the season, having also finished seventh at the Australian and Miami Grands Prix.

2024 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda qualified seventh for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, recording a second consecutive Q3 appearance. This was the first time Tsunoda qualified in the top ten at consecutive races since the Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix, as well as the first time in his career that he qualified in the top seven at successive races. Finishing the Grand Prix in ninth place, Tsunoda scored points for a second consecutive race weekend. This was the first time he scored points at successive races since the British and Hungarian Grands Prix.

2024 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Yuki Tsunoda finished 13th in the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, finishing a Grand Prix in a better position than where he started for the first time since the Belgian Grand Prix. With Tsunoda 13th and Liam Lawson 14th, the Red Bull junior team remain yet to score in any Qatar Grand Prix to date.

2024 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Both RB drivers were out in Q2 at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Yuki Tsunoda out-qualified Liam Lawson for a sixth consecutive Grand Prix. Tsunoda has not been out-qualified by his team-mate on any of his four Abu Dhabi Grand Prix appearances to date.
